I love trying new coffee shops and was excited about the location of this one because we don't have too many good spots in the northland. Also love that they hire workers with disabilities and support them! I tried the toffee crunch latte and my husband got the Irish cream cold brew. The drinks were good. However the reason for the 3 stars is because of the price. Their menu is the most expensive I've seen of any coffee shop, and we go to a lot! After I ordered the 2 drinks, I was shocked that the total was over $20. Then I looked at my receipt and saw that the latte I ordered was 8.89 and they up charge for oat milk which added another 1.50, so my drink was $10 and the cold brew was also about the same. I'd be okay with these prices if they advertised that some proceeds were going to help out individuals with disabilities or something similar, but I didn't see anything about that.Even their non coffee drinks were almost double the price they are at other coffee shops. Yikes Would be a great place if they lowered their prices a bit!

A cute little coffee shop with a great back bone. They donate to a local charity for special needs and in my opinion that alone should get you to get your coffee here.

Here's the thing, I can tell the owners have started this business for all the right reasons. I'm just worried about a few things. Everything was good. Not great, not bad, but good. There is nothing that stands out uniquely about this place that makes you want to come back. Rochester in Parkville has the unique atmosphere, burritos, sandwiches, baked goods, and beer.Headrush has their unique outdoor seating, special teas, seasonal drinks, baked goods, specialty coffee, biking community, Messenger has ibis bakery, great work atmosphere, location, specialty coffee, community space, Cafe Cá Phê has their unique drinks being the only Vietnamese coffee shop in Kc, boba, community, a figure head owner, beautiful atmosphereThou Mayest has a great study space, always busy, cigars, bartenders, cozy lounge areas, location. The point being is that there is a reason why these coffee shops are the best in Kc and continually bring in customers. They have something unique to them, they are warm and inviting, make you want to stay longer, and feel apart of a living and breathing community space. Hull house coffee is average on all fronts. Ok coffee, somewhat empty unexciting atmosphere, very weak bakery selection, lack of quality theme, alright location. But there is nothing here you can't find somewhere else. Which is made worse because the location is set in an area where people spend very little time around. Another review here points out that you can watch all the business go by while they stop at Dutch bros. People north of the river are harder to stop and attract because you need to drive everywhere. So you need to be twice or even three times better than the competition to be something. I hope they continue to develop their shop, as I love supporting local businesses rather than franchises. Yet they will have to really think outside the box to make this place something people want to get up early to visit, because as of right now-I bet all of their customers are going somewhere else.

Directly behind the new Dutch Brothers Coffee on Barry Rd. lies the month old Hull House Coffee. A labor of love that the Hull family opened to create a place that their son with disabilities could work and prosper. Not only that but provide opportunities for young adults like him to also find work, learn skills and make their way. As I sat and enjoyed my perfect cortado (roasted in-house), I watched the line of cars never go less than 6 cars deep at the corporate behemoth across the empty lot, while I sat alone on a Saturday afternoon inside this charming cafe. It was infuriating! I was able to have a long and wonderful conversation with co-owner / dad John about their struggles, goals and coffee in general - I was even gifted some beans to sample at home and report back on the quality. Kansas City - if you want to live up to your generous Midwestern hospitality, then get out of line and drive 100 yards north and have a much better / authentic coffee experience that gives back so much to the community instead of skimming the profits and sending them to corporate headquarters in Oregon. Kansas City and the Northland especially deserves an independent shop like Hull House Coffee - so lets get behind them and show them and ourselves that we don't need anymore corporate chains to make our lives better.

Great coffee and service. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to my coffee roasts. My medium roast was spot on and temp wise! Greeted by this sweet young guy as I walked in. Asked if I wanted a mug or to go cup. I probably should have taken the 2go cup as I really struggled walking it to my table. My hands were a little on the shaky side (ok a lot , it was embarrassing ) but served with a lil green pastel cup with this cute lil saucer to keep it from spilling all over the place. The woman working behind the counter was so sweet, I'm guessing the owner. She asked to help and didn't gasp in fear of my dropping it everywhere or at my nerdiness after I said I got this retreating to get my stirrer and sweetener. I still felt trendy in there. Only thing missing was Chandler, Monica, Pheobe, Ross and Rachael. Total no shows. Music playing was just right (John Mayer music like) and at the right sound level where I didn't feel the need for headphones while I worked. I'd check this place out again for sure. But will get the to go cup and save everyone from the 30 secs of anxiety. Forgot to take a pic. Next time.

This place is an absolute gem! It offers a fantastic environment for a relaxing workday or simply a place to unwind. The coffee is top-notch, and the service is impeccable. The lady at the register was incredibly friendly and kind. I highly recommend giving it a try and spreading the word to your friends, family, and everyone else. Trust me, it's definitely worth it! Just came in today and boy am I glad. I was working my shift at Amazon and got a moral boost by walking in!!
