It was a fine hotel. I was only there to sleep, really, so maybe if I had had more time to explore I would've found it more interesting. As others noted, it is an older hotel, so you will get smaller, odd-shaped rooms and some 'character.' I actually thought my room was pretty nice considering what I was prepared for after reading reviews.I used the app to check in and get into my room, so I never interacted with the front desk staff. The people at the valet stand were very friendly, though. Price seemed reasonable enough; my work paid for it so I honestly didn't pay that close of attention. If you're looking for a standard Hilton room/hotel, this isn't it, but if you're okay with the vintage charm, this should fit the bill.

The Hotel Phillips Kansas City is a good place to stay that is walking distance to the T-mobile Center in the heart of the Power and Light district. Situated in a historic building from the 30's, the lobby is beautiful with remnants of a bygone era consisting of leather, chrome and other beautiful furnishings. The location is a couple of blocks from the T-mobile Center and steps from movie theaters, bars, shops and a huge grocery store. A quiet area when there are no events at the Center but quite busy during concerts and other events. The rooms are small and old but well maintained. Some have good views and the three elevators, though old, run well. The gym is also very small with some dumbbells, treadmill and water dispenser. Small but enough for a light workout.Tavernnova is the restaurant on the premises and they have an excellent breakfast that is both fresh and tasty. The staff is very attentive and professional with great attitudes. Our one regret is that we did not have time to dine outside of breakfast. For the most part, this was a nice hotel that was in a convenient location and had a beautiful lobby. Though not one to complain, the next section may feel pretentious as I would like to bring up some negative points of the hotel for those of us who are Diamond members and expect a bit more exceptional service. The front desk was very curt and did not acknowledge our status as Diamond Members. We were placed in the smallest room with a partial view on the 6th floor. It was the end of March and the hotel was not booked fully. I went on their reservation website and found many options still available. Further, when I asked for a complimentary upgrade later in the evening, based on our room being a bit small and dirty, I was told that it was not possible without further explanation. In addition, the "lounge" with mid afternoon appetizers was a tiny room that had no windows and could probably facilitate 8-10 people at most. The "appetizers" consisted of small bags of Chex Mix, some Granola Bars and Gummi Bear type fruit snacks. All items you would find in a primary grade student's lunch box! There was one hot plate that was left openly exposed. Bottled drinks, however, were plentiful with Cranberry juice, sodas, and water. Honestly, the set up was not only appalling but insulting. Overall, a good place to sleep and walk to events when visiting Kansas City along with beautiful photos.

Old hotels are very cool, although they sometimes make you long for modern conveniences. I stayed here back in 2017 and had a decent experience so decided to stay here for a night when I came into town early for a business trip. The hotel's location is good...very close to the streetcar line, convention center, performing arts center, area and Power & Light district.Service is great. Front desk and executive lounge folks were top notch. I love the lobby of the hotel...it's like a library and the design is beautiful.Where is doesn't excel is the elevators. They were so slow. Even without anyone waiting, they took forever and they were slow. When we were there, 2 out of 3 worked. It would definitely have helped to have that increased capacity, especially since the cars themselves are tiny. The room was nice but was showing it's age. Peeling paint, worn areas, shower that didn't drain. The design is nice and I love the details like the intricate crown molding but I think a refresh might be due. I will say the mattress and pillows were super comfortable and I loved the water pressure in the shower, even as I despaired that I was going to flood the bathroom because the drain was so slow. Spoiler alert, I didn't flood the bathroom. The other thing that was odd that at times, there was a weird smell in the room. It wasn't all the time but it smelled a little like sewer gas at times. Very bizarre. The executive lounge is right off the lobby and they had a decent selection of drinks (I had a great cherry soda) and a couple of snacks but I would say it wasn't as nice as most lounges I have seen. Service was super friendly, though.I waffled on giving this a 3 or a 4 star review, but just because I appreciate that Hilton is running an old hotel like this, which I know can't be easy or cheap, I rounded up to a 4 star. I don't want to lose unique and distinctive places like this to another bland box.

My fiance & I came in town for a wedding. Check in is not until 4pm, the wedding was at 5pm. I called the hotel FOUR times within a span of a month, 2 on the day of, to make sure we were marked down for early check in and it would be no issue. I was told check out is at 11am and if I showed up @ 2pm (the time I requested/thought was an appropriate and respectful time to ask to show up early and still have enough time to get ready for this very important event), it would be no problem at all. My fiancé and I are LGBTQ so I don't know if what to follow is because of discrimination or just terrible hotel staff and management as a whole but we showed up and every single person we came in contact with (AARON, COURTNEY and FOWZIA) were extremely rude, sassy, confrontational or dismissive. Fowzia checked us in and checked us out; she wouldn't make eye contact, didn't tell us what room we were in, gave us no direction at all after giving us the key and made zero attempts at having customer service skills for that position. My finance attempted to talk to Courtney about our check in, she proceeded to roll her eyes and give them attitude so I went up there WITH my fiance to try to explain we had already called the hotel prior & Courtney talked to me and referred to my fiance as if they were not standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME at the desk. After already dealing with having to come up with a plan B to get ready, we showed back up after 4pm to check in and THE ROOM WAS DIRTY. Trash was left under the bed. Dirty Q-tips were still behind the toilet on the ground. I am very unimpressed by this hotel, its staff and how they handled the situation. The only positive I have to say is it was a 4 minute walk to our location for the wedding and that made it an easy commute over there in our fancy clothes but thats a positive on us for choosing a great location and absolutely nothing to do with the hotel itself.

We stayed here a couple of nights for a friends wedding party to use for the Bride & Groom. I really like this hotel. The suite I got on the 18th floor was really nice. The bed was comfortable, the TV, while too old to be able to use airplay or other screen mirroring process, are still a great size and work great. The water pressure was excellent and the overall hotel was super comfortable. My 2 issues are the Speakeasy bar and the valet service. The bartender of the speakeasy was rude to our group of 10 and told us that we had to sit in the area in front of the bar and had to be on 1 single tab...for 10 of us. So we decided to go to John's Upper deck, where we proceeded to have a 400+ bill. Their loss!!! The other issue was the LACK of enough attendants there. I would expect that Fridays and Sundays are your busiest times. So why only have 2 attendants? I had to get back to the wedding venue to help clean up before another service and it took over 30 minutes to get my car. Now mind you, I tipped no matter what, but those 2 attendants were working their butts off, but they really needed help.

This hotel left a lot to be desired. The decor is nice, but the rooms are so run down. The towel hook in our bathroom was coming out of the wall. There were mysterious stains on the bench at the end of the bed. The bathroom smelled like sewage (and not ours) all day. The door to the bathroom also doesn't close properly and slides open all the time. We only stayed here for 2 nights and it was plenty.

This is my first time staying at this hotel. The hotel is pretty clean and neatly decorated for the holidays. I was excited to stay here for my road trip to Kansas City, but I must say that I'm somewhat disappointed. I most likely will not return. The pictures posted online made the lobby area seem much larger; the credit shall go to the excellent photographer. However, when my family arrived in person, it was not as big as I'd thought it would be...The first time I called for room service, there was an answer. However, there was no one answering the phones for the 3 last calls. Perhaps it was too late in the night. There is no parking here for customers that book a reservation. You will pay $38 more for valet, which I did. They will give you a blue ticket with numbers, and you will dial 0 before checkout time (11 AM) in the morning and give them the last 3 numbers on your ticket to get your car...
