Holy Grounds Coffee and Book Shoppe

I had assumed that Holy Grounds Coffee had taken the former St. James Catholic Church and created a cool coffee shop in the building. The last I knew that the space had been an events / wedding hall, a B and B and vacant. Little did I know was that it had been reformed as an Anglican church and the coffee shop was being ran by the church in the basement. The vibe was just kinda weird...it's basically a cluttered Christian book store and gift shop serving coffee and sandwiches. The staff were polite but not very welcoming; I felt like I was intruding on a private function that didn't want me there. I took my Mocha Cream Breve' and went out on the patio for some views of the beautiful historic structure. When asked about their source for coffee beans, I was told "we get em from someplace in Arkansas". OK!??I'm sure that some demographic here in the bible belt will find this basement quaint and charming, but it just gave me a desire to go spend my money at a more secular venue.

The coffee & pastries were fabulous but the environment was lacking any ambiance whatsoever. The ladies working were nice but not "barista nice". I felt like we were sitting in the church basement having coffee.

What a unique concept for a coffee shop. Located in an Anglican Church basement. The employees were friendly and efficient. There was an assorted selection of coffee, food, religious items for sale, and used books.

Great place for a cup of coffee or tea, accompanied by a little something to eat. It is in a beautifully, old restored Catholic Church with a great religious library as a part of the coffee shop. Great place to go work in private, while supporting Good Works!

Amazing coffee. Huge bonus is they make their own syrups from scratch. Best coffee in town!

Great staff. Yummy bites. Drinks aren't extraordinary, but they hit the spot. Obviously there's a religious aspect, but they aren't in your face about it.

A beautiful Anglican Church with the first floor operating as a coffee shop and religious gift/book store. The employees are incredibly kind and passionate about the history of the building. My family claimed their lattes were impressive, maybe even better than hammerhand (more than likely due to their in house made syrups!) I got a chai latte which was fine. The atmosphere was calm and quiet with free wifi as well as many seating options; I would love to come back and study here. If you leave your drink downstairs you can go admire the gorgeous sanctuary. Religious or not, it's worth a stop in the Liberty area. Will be back!
