Generally, the campsites seemed to be well maintained & where we stayed, there was plenty of room to spread out. The picnic table was okay; you can tell weather and use has worn them some. Our camp neighbors warned us the portable toilet was in an awful state, and to go to the other campground close by. At least one of the sinks at the location didn't work, but there was soap and no hand sanitizer. In the evening it was somewhat noisy off the lake and if memory serves, things with the humans settled down around midnight. Short jaunt to the lakeshore, there was plenty of trash near the woodsy side not so much near the lake itself.I didn't have the opportunity to explore any trails that could be there, so here's hoping next time I'm here, I will.

The state park itself is usually very clean and a great place to bring the family on a beautiful Kansas weekend. I'm a big outdoorsman so my review focuses mainly on the sporting aspects of the state park: fishing, hunting, shooting, etc. As a boating lake, it's not bad! The only issue with recreational boating are the trees coming up out of the lake, so be warned! However, for a fishing lake, it's great! Limits of crappie and pan fish, cat fish and bass galore. I've never fished here and not done reasonably well! It can get busy during peak fishing times though. The shooting range at Hillsdale is one of my favorites in the greater Kansas City Area, and is one of the few (if not potentially the only) public long range shooting clubs around. The staff is always nice and very professional, the facility is always clean, and everyone practices excellent gun safety. Can't ask much better if an outdoor shooting range. Overall, Hillsdale State Park is a great place to go, especially if you're looking to stay close to Kansas City. Check it out!

First time hiking here but have been here once before. Trails weren't marked the best but if you walk for a while you'll run into one of four trails to get you crack on track. Some steep areas that get you down to some beautiful views of the lake. Very large lake with several ways to enter and areas to hike from. It's not Red Rock or Black Mountain in Vegas but enjoyed the outdoor time in a KS winter.

Camping here was so freaky. Countless spiders and crickets, terrible bathrooms, and too many people around. It was freaky because of the spiders. I HATE spiders. The bathroom stall near us had at least 15 spiders, not exaggerating, crawling all over the walls, the picnic tables had at least 8 crawling and living on each. When we walked on the pavement during sunset there were hundreds, yes hundreds, of crickets jumping out of our way. Crazy!!!!Yes I had a good time with my family, but I was freaked out by the bugs the whole time.

Not happy. Paid for park pass, can't get into anything. Swimming beach closed, docks closed, no first come first serve spots anywhere.

Sites are literally on top of each other. Definitely not camping when you're just surrounded by strangers so close you can reach out and touch them in what amounts to a large yard. Would not recommend and regret making the drive over here. Drove an hour and turned around and left because it is that bad.

Went here with a good friend this weekend. Been a good time so far. Good clean air in this establishment with the option of hiking trails. If you like lookin at the night sky to see all the constellations you can do that here. D'wayne's tip: Don't bring fish to BBQ here. Almost all of the trash cans say NO FISH. We had a very difficult time trying to get rid of our overcooked salmon.Trees here are about medium height so they don't provide much shade. I had to bring some ice cold lemonade to beat the heat. If you're on a hike and get thirsty, this place has plenty of amenities. There's a water fountain in every campsite you just have to bring your own cup. Definitely a good place to camp in this area. If you like salmon check out the picnic pavillion, maybe there will still be some left.
