Great course and well taken care of! Wish I could golf it more often. The staff is helpful and the course is always maintained.

This place is awful lol. I love the old school vibe and stuff. I wish someone would throw 100 million at it. But the club house staff is awful they treat it like a country club but far from.

Course was average. Management is horrible!!After we finished, I called the course to ask why our group of 4 was told to pick up the pace. We had 2 holes left and it had been 2.5hrs. We had two people who are new to the sport. We had absolutely NOBODY behind us. When we got back we asked what the deal was!? They said the other carts they had were "rentals" and that they would get charged to use them. So they harassed us to finish up. Then told me they allow 2hrs per 9 holes... For a group of 4? If you don't have enough carts, then get more. Golf isn't a game of rush. With so many great options in KC, I doubt I'll be back. Never been rushed like that. Absolutely ridiculous.

This course has been around forever and it is a hidden gem in eastern Kansas City. The price was right (about $23 for a week day rate) and booking a tee time was a breeze through the GolfNow website. Despite many tee times open and available around our time, when we arrived, two foursomes teed off prior to us and were painfully slow. We ended up teeing off 30 minutes late, something that always eats me up. Wish the pro shop would do a better job of staggering the golfers. The course was in really good shape and was very challenging. I liken it to a "Baby Swope" with its rolling hills and well maintained fairways. Despite the recently aerated greens, the course played well. We ended up having to join up with a twosome behind us to speed things up. Both were club members and were very gracious and kind. I'll definitely be back but five hours to play 17 holes (I had to skip the last hole due to an afternoon commitment) is unconscionable. Hope the next round here is better managed by marshals and employees.

I am the bride of the wedding reception Paul M. attended on Sept 21. The catering was NOT done by Hillcrest Country Club, but instead of Kansas City Catering. I was also upset that the twice-baked potatoes weren't there (but it's not Hillcrest's fault - KC Catering forgot to bring them) - anyway, that's for a later post on KC Catering. We chose to go with plastic - but Hillcrest offers beautiful formal dining sets. Some of us are on a budget. You can bring in your own caterer, but no outside alcohol was allowed. HILLCREST WAS AMAZING! April was the Event Coordinator. They had a lot of decorations on hand - including many, many types of vases & table number card holders. The view from the room was of the green where we took a lot of pictures with my husband. We kept decorations to a minimum with just a large candle as the centerpice on each table with a few votive candles around it. The room was glowing with the over-head lights dimmed! They have a set of stairs by the dance floor and we used them for our grand entrance.I had a blast - and yes, I remember all of it. If you'd like to see our wedding video to see what it can look like it will soon be posted at http://romanticreelsmedia.wordpress.com/I gave 4 stars as all the times I visited prior to the wedding day it smelled like bad air freshener. I mentioned it to April and they changed the freshener they were using. During the reception I couldn't smell the odor, so I was happy.

Hillcrest is a golf course in transition, and little by little it seems to be turning itself around. I played this last year and it was in terrible shape. This year the course looks better managed, greens and tee boxes are in a lot better shape, and the experience was much better. The track has a lot of fine holes, mature trees put shot placement at a premium, but give opportunities for a few errant shots. Better bring your A game out of the shoot, as the first hole, is 235 yd par 3. What I ultimately see happening is, Cerner will buy the course in 3 years and make it into their company track, at that point it will become a stellar track that everyone in KC will want to play.

My favorite KC course. A newly refurbished Donald Ross layout with some challenging greens and new clean white sand bunkers. The new GPS carts and great beverage prices make this a must play. I've played here numerous times over the past year in good and bad weather and have never felt rushed or had to wait on those ahead. The staff has done a great job breathing new life into this gem. Maybe the best back 9 in KC with one heck of an opening par 3.
