We've been getting our chicks here for five years now and we could not be happier with them! They are always healthy and very lively! You have to take very good care of them for the first couple of weeks because they are little babies and do not have their mama!Alan is always very helpful, kind and generous by giving us extra chicks with each purchase! We've had nothing but good, healthy chickens from Heartland Hatchery these five years, but again, you have to care for these little guys properly! If you're new to raising baby chicks, take a few minutes and study the info sheet Alan hands you with every order, then go online and do some more research. You'll be glad you did! Thanks Heartland Hatchery for giving us good quality baby chickens at a fair price!John

Despite a pre-order of sexed pullets (which they apparently lost), I was able to get 2 doz chicks with substituted breeds from what I had ordered. At least half were roosters, so HH also failed on sexing their chicks. The hens I ended up with are ok layers, not great. I do not recommend HH nor will I ever use them again. Their chicks were healthy, just not the right breeds or sex, which one doesn't know for sure until after raising them for 3-5 months. Ordering from a hatchery should've prevented that, but HH doesn't seem to care as long as they sell chicks.

Got chicks from here and half of them died or had birth defectsCustomer service is non existent and they don't stand behind their stock, most likely if you complain they just give you more messed up or half dead or sickly chicksWouldn't recommend this place, been ordering chicks for decades from all other hatcheries and never had such low quality chicks and so many birth defects as heartland hatchery

I am not sure that they even deserve one star. My son took his own allowance and bought a Emden goose from Heartland Hatchery/Alan Nieder in April. He was hoping to breed it with his other Emden goose and show it in 4-H. I don't know what the goose is but it is not a purebred Emden. It looks like a crossbreed between an Emblen and African goose. My son cannot show it in 4-H or breed it with his other goose. Long story, short, after several phone conversations with Mr. Nieder, he refused to give my son a refund. $13 is alot for a child to be out of. He did not deliver what he was selling. He has no heart, he is just in it for the money and he doesn't care who he hurts. My son has autism and it is just very sad that a grown up would cheat this child.
