Not only is this organization critical for our community but it truly is a fabulous volunteer experience. We have been volunteering at Harvesters for over a decade. Our "kids" are in their 20's and it is still one of our favorite family activities. Two hour shifts that go by so fast and we have rarely ever gotten the sane area in all these years!!Grab your family, coworkers, friends or just join when available and make a difference!

Community: a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. That's what I get from giving my time and efforts when volunteering at Harvesters: a sense of community. Sure, I could just go help for the feels, but it's so much more than that. For one, awareness of the need is a huge part of volunteering at any food bank or pantry. In any part of this great country, there are fellow community members who go with less, if not entirely without. Did you know that with COVID, the local need is up more than 40%? No? Me neither. The need is *real* and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.Harvesters rallies the community, bringing together volunteer forces from groups like churches, local companies, or other like-minded organizations. Harvesters combines those volunteers with donated foodstuffs and churns out amazing programs like the BackSnack initiative for school children or boxes of food for seniors. Marissa, the community engagement manager, guided us through some safety tips before we hit the packing line, and we were all in sync, moving towards that common goal. Whether you volunteer your time, donate food, or provide financial resources, Harvesters gives us all that important sense of belonging and understanding. Communities grow strong when we pull together during times of great need, and those communities flourish because of our common effort.

Harvesters is THE community network around these parts. They supply food throughout KC and surprisingly wide surrounding areas, and I believe they do an amazing job of it. They're a community oriented, well-oiled machine that is crucial for many families.I used to volunteer here monthly at a former company and we'd load up food for their BackSnack program that provides a weekly backpack of food for schoolchildren to take home on the weekends. If you're looking to volunteer here, it's a great experience and they have it down to an art. You can schedule time on their website easily, or contribute a donation, and you can do it on your own or with a group. I've coordinated some days out with coworkers with ease and think that it's one of the easiest volunteer opportunities to get on the calendar. All in all, a wonderful group of folks doing great work in the community.

We had a wonderful time with our 11s and 12s Precision Baseball players and families. Great organization to volunteer your time. People are very nice and helpful to work with. Definitely recommend for organizations looking to give back to the community.

A wonderful local charity serving the needs of thousands and thousands of people in Kansas City! They have daily opportunities for volunteering your time. Personally, if you can swing it, I would suggest everyone spend a few hours or an afternoon here. You get a short little intro session and a quick tour and are shown all the good that Harvesters does. Then you can sort lots and LOTS of donated goods, tossing out opened packages and expired food, and sorting everything else. It's definitely an eye awakening experience that I would recommend if you can help out. :)

Unpacking and packing carrots at Harvesters is great fun. You need a group of 40 people. You need a "Bill" - that is someone to bring the bags to your table. And bring some elementary age kids to help move your bags from the table to the cardboard boxes.

Saw on the news that Harvesters was giving food to striking auto workers. They have strike funds for that. We have donated for years and do not want our money used in this fashion. Should go to thre truly needy.Ken Hedden
