Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken - Lee's Summit

My buddy who has lived in Lee's Summit for 40+ years said this is the best chicken he's ever had in his life. It's pretty close to that for me. I still like Stroud's, but this might be a little better. It's spicy. It wasn't too spicy for me or any of the four of us. Though my wife and my friend's husband were both heated up a little, but said they would return. The beans were too sweet for me, so I got collard greens and they were delicious!! My wife's mac'n'cheese was top shelf! REALLY good!! Our lovely server was super helpful with suggestions and refills. We tipped her 30%. She was fantastic! The chicken is not cooked until you order it. It comes out HOT!!! Each of us had to "open it up and wait" as my wife said. Wait for it to cool off a bit. Too hot to pick up. I just love that everything was fresh!

Make sure to check your to-go order before you leave. I received 2 of 3 pieces of chicken, so I called, and I had to drive back for my other piece (-gas$, -time, food getting cold), or have a credit for 1 piece for 'next time'.In addition to that, the chicken was overcooked and dry, unfortunately, which makes me feel compelled to share this experience with my community. Normally I would let this stuff slide, but it was too disappointing...I loved this restaurant when it opened, but this experience leaves a bad taste. All I can say now is the quality seems to be down, and prices are up, and I won't risk my money next time.

Flavor was good on the chicken just feel it was a lil over priced for the portion size. Great friendly service. Will eat there again if I'm nearby but definitely won't go out of my way to.

I was kid free for the night and wanted something delicious and easy. Gus's had been in town for a little bit and so I decided to try it. I am not usually one who wants spicy chicken and had been told it was really hot. The night I went they had a special of two thighs, two legs, bread, coleslaw and beans. For 50 cents more I switched the beans to the potato salad the waitress recommended. The iced tea here is brewed which is always a win for me. For dessert I took home the sweet potato pie!Chicken was hot and super fresh. It was spicy but not kick you in the face, just I am gonna give you the sniffles for an hour. Lol. It was so juicy and tender and crunch on the outside was top notch. The potato salad had just a slight sweet kick but I liked it because it didn't have a bunch of crud in it. No chucks of celery or onion. The coleslaw was light and refreshing. It was a cream sauce but it was not under or over sauced. It was delicious and I am super picky about coleslaw. I ate the sweet potato pie at home. It was good but a little to sweet for me. Which is ok cause sweet souther pies are supposed to be that way. The texture was spot on and I would recommend it to others. I would not take my parents here and it's to spicy for them, but I will be back.

The chicken was delicious and fried to perfection. The heat level was there but not too spicy. The service was pretty good had to wait for another drink refill as they were not busy but hey not to bad. And the restaurant was clean and the bathroom was clean and the air worked, as we are in KC. And if you know anything about KC in the summer! ITS HOT HOT!!!! Overall I will make a drive from Warrensburg to Lees Summit Gus's Famous Fried Chicken

I was in KC for the weekend and googled for the best fried chicken. From the moment I parked I loved it. The service was super fast. The restaurant was clean. The meal was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend.

Seasoning on the chicken was 10/10! Catfish was overly salty. The sides weren't anything special but mac and cheese was good. For dessert we got IBC root beer float with chocolate Chess pie. I'd skip the dessert next time if we made a trip back. If it wasn't for the $15 Memphis special, it was a little bit on the pricer side for fried chicken. Service was friendly and they had fun mismatch chairs for seating.

Julian at Gus' is so nice! She always takes great care of us and shares her latest binge watched shows. Awesome at always remembering our order each time and greets us with a smile and a helpful hand! The food is great, but we come back because Julian makes each experience amazing! Also, get the pie, you won't be disappointed!

Walked in server Elizabeth came to introduce her self and walked away did not come back to serve us she just walked around and ignored us for almost 30 minutes did not come to help us at all had to ask another server to help us very unprofessional from her and will not be coming back here again and have been coming here for many years but thank you to Laura the manager for jumping into action and taking care of us

Gus's has been in Lee's Summit for about two years and we love Gus's, however, a bit disappointed in the Lee's Summit location. We went during the week and there were only about three other tables occupied. The waitress was very nice and we ordered, as we knew what we wanted, and about two minutes later the food came out. The temperature was OK but obviously it had been in the warmer. The chicken was hard and very dry. The same thing happened the last time were went there. After the food came out, the manager and the waitress sat at the counter, with their backs to the tables, and it took forever to get a refill of water. Seemed more interested in their phones than providing service. I never see anyone at this business and just hope that changes are made so they can keep it going. The Kansas City, KS location is always spot on.
