The music group Genesis had a hit titled" Invisible Touch". Well this amazing Genesis health club on 12th Street and Main in downtown Kansas City has many visible and beautiful overt touches and positives that make it stand out as a health club and gym miles above the rest.1) Hats off to the amazing team here. Troy is the kindest and sharpest superstar Manager who welcomed me, an out of towner( not a local and potential member) with class and enthusiasm; please note that I was a guest from NY visiting KC for the MNF game. Mac, Chandler and Brenna were just stellar with kindness. Loved the efficiency at the front desk and their smiles as they picked up towels in the cart from all over the gym.2) Towel service( bath and workout sizes).3) This gym is huge. The workout floor has all areas - free weights, cardio, abs, machines and the class room very well spaced. 4) The equipment is modern. 5) The locker room is immaculate. The supplies( soap, shampoo, shaving cream, lotion and paper towels( are well stocked. 6) 2 hours validated parking on the 4th floor in the adjacent garage with a 55 feet convenient walk to the gym entrance. 7) Open weekdays at 5 am. Perfect! 8) Beautiful, relaxed vibe in the health club with no wait or rushing for the machines or weights. I left each time with a bigger smile.

I really HATE genesis. I was here when they were transitioning from onelife to genesis, what seemed like a never-ending nightmare of getting tossed from one trainer to the next & after doing so many "initial sessions" when they finally switched me over, they stated they cant find my sessions that I had pre-paid while signing up. Of course, I am frustrated & decided to quit the membership altogether as I had tried other locations & they are disgusting & smelly. However, because of coach Flex, I decided to change my mind & give this place a fourth & final chance. Im definitely glad I gave this place another try because it has been a different experience training with Flex. He's very knowledgeable & truly cares to explain the process of nurturing a healthy body & sustainable life style choices that is personalized for me. Coach flex truly changed my mind about how genesis operates.

I have bad news. This used to be a five star place called OneLife fitness. It was clean, welcoming, and well-run. At the core, you knew the team was there for you. Unfortunately, the new owners called Genesis Health Clubs have managed to distinguish themselves in a very short amount of time. This management group is comical. It's a living cliche of what you hate about most gyms. They will fight you for every penny they can. The customer service is atrocious, with some nice people in the midst of dreadful systems. After we were improperly charged for a monthly membership, it took 15 calls over 2 months to resolve what should have been an immediate fix. Addressing the mistake and getting a refund required speaking to an assistant manager, a manager, scads of customer service folks, liaising with a regional manager, and finally getting the authorization of a Vice President - for a transaction less than $100. Reasonable people would give up because the amount of time and aggravation isn't worth it. The longer this dragged out and the more people said they would call me back and didn't, the more this became about the principle of the thing. Normally, I keep bad experiences to myself - I don't like to leave negative reviews, especially when something is just circumstantial. This is different: it's by design. This is a system that is set up to make it as difficult as possible for you to get through to people who can actually help you. It feels almost predatory. Which is why I want to warn you about my experience. There were multiple places where a well-intentioned organization could have intervened and indicated they wanted to make it right. That didn't happen. Another sign of the character and nature of the new ownership group is that multiple people I spoke with left the company while all this was happening. I could tell there was a serious change and that the experienced people were getting out. I was left with green team members who seemed nice but not able to help and management who ducked calls and refused to get on the phone. Again, a reasonable leader would have heard about our experience and stepped in. That didn't happen. No acknowledgment, no apology. Instead, I had to call in regularly to keep the process moving and get them to do their jobs. I'm sorry for the nice people in customer service who are being put in a more difficult situation than they need to be or should be.At OneLife, you could call and speak with a real person who would help you, and if the issue was something bigger a manager was there who could make it right. And when they told you something, you could trust it. At Genesis, when I first raised the issue the immediate reaction was suspicion: "Did you get that in writing?"As a matter of fact, I had. But that should not have mattered. It was a sharp change from the more collaborative relationship that OneLife offered. Genesis is way more contentious, and you should be prepared for that. Throughout my interactions with them, their priority was the contract, not the customer. In my case, the contract and evidence agreed with me, and after two months and 15 calls I eventually got a refund. But it never should have been this difficult- for so many reasons. I would strongly advise that you avoid this organization if possible. I understand for convenience you may still want to work with them, if so you should be prepared. Save everything. It doesn't have to be this way. You shouldn't have to invite this extra stress into your life. But this is the way they choose to operate. They mentioned a couple times over the course of this experience that "oh, everything's a little crazy with the changeover" - and goodness do I have grace for logistical challenges, especially in the pandemic. But it does not excuse how you treat people along the way and how you respond when you learn that your organization has fallen short. That has told me everything I need to know.

I was pretty excited about this club when I first joined. It was a good rate and boasted a lot of amenities (like a movie theatre work out room!) Unfortunately my experience has been less than ideal. The gym is not well maintained- many of the machines are broken and broken equipment is not routinely replaced, even when I have made requests. The movie theater screen broke and over time, so did about half the machines in the theatre. Several months ago my husband went in to cancel me as a carrier of our membership and put it on his card. Unfortunately, they did not drop me as a carrier and I did not notice until 3 charges later, due to it drawing from an account which I rarely use. When I called today to try again to cancel, the woman on the phone told me I can't cancel over the phone and need to come in during a limited set of hours to speak with management about cancelling. I work during these hours and am often traveling, so this is not ideal. I think they want you to come in to try to convince you not to cancel. In general they are very salesman-like... I regularly used to be approached by trainers while I was trying to work out to try and sell me personal training sessions. I don't love being bothered while working out, so this put a bad taste in my mouth. When I joined the head trainer (who is now gone) actually called me on the phone at 10pm to try and solicit a session. One day when I was walking on then stair master and returning a text on my phone he told me to stand up straight. I didn't appreciate being bothered. The guy who has taken over management now is a nice person and is definitely trying to get things on track but I haven't had a particularly good experience with Genesis and wound up calling my bank today to put a freeze on any more automatic payments, since they won't let me cancel without coming in during work day hours. No one is any help on the phone and they wouldn't let me speak to a manager so I had to go another route.

I've been a member at this facility (Formerly OneLife Firness) since 2020. Until Christmas of 2021, it was outstanding! Unbeknownst to most, when we came back after the holiday, Genesis Health Clubs had bought the facility, which began the beginning of the end. You could quickly tell that the place was going to go down hill swiftly. For over two months of Genesis' running the place, no TV's worked in the place. Every piece of cardio (all have TV's with independent controls) was hooked into the cable, but since Genesis took over, none of those monitors operate. Seems to be a cost-saving measure that no one was informed about. The weight area used to be regularly kept-up, but since Genesis has taken over, many of the pads and seats are ripped and the place is generally not clean. Staff no longer puts things back to maintain a clean appearance (many of the old members, however, take the time to put their things and others back). The flooring is cracked in many spots with some chunks of the flooring missing. This has been the same for a long time, and there has been no mention of repairs.Immediately the sanitary wipes were replaced by paper towels and sanitizing spray. Recently, the bottles have been filled more regularly, but there have been long periods where you could only find paper towels and nothing to sanitize the equipment. This was especially prevalent during mandatory masking times with COVID, so it seemed to be the wrong time to take bottom line into account for that line item.If you walk in there today, of the about 11-12 treadmills they have, about seven are out of service at any given time. This doesn't take into account the ones that are not marked but either don't work when you get on them, or skid/slide when you use them. With all of that said, all of the little things that was done right by OneLife has made Genesis awful. I'm paying the same amount, maybe more (even though they said no rates would go up). The staff went from being friendly and outgoing to non-existent and constantly on their personal cell phones. Just two weeks ago, a friend of mine came into town that used to live here and not only was there no one to greet him, there was no one to monitor the front... period. He had intended to pay for a guest pass, but told me he walked-in and worked out on a Thursday and Friday early afternoon and because no one was at the front, he was able to work out for free. Finally, there may be one personal trainer holdover from the previous ownership, but one-by-one, everyone left within the first three months. Management, trainers, sales staff, etc. At the end of the day, save your money. There are dozens of smaller gyms in the downtown KC area that may be smaller, but you may get a much better experience. This company does not care about the their facilities or their members. It is all a facade that they have built with a seemingly large marketing budget. They should invest the money they spend on TV spots with staffing and repairs.

A gym with all updated equipment available. Sleds, tires, stairs, studio rooms, and weights. Garage parking, bus stops near by, and on the street parking. In house fitness plan meals and drinks. Meshuggah Bagels near by for rapid absorbing carbs post-work out, or a grab-n-go from Consentino's Grocery Store located directly underneath. Starbucks 100ft away.

I have been a member for about 2 and a half years. It has never been the cleanest or best maintained club I have ever been to but the location is convenient for me. As time goes on, it gets dirtier and more and more machines are broken. The group fitness classes have never been convenient for my work schedule but I realize everyone's schedule is different. I also feel the membership team you call at the main number gives incorrect and/or misleading information about cancelling memberships. Take your business to a smaller gym in the downtown area that will most likely give you better service and maintain better facilities.

Everything is super amazing here!! Love the crowd, the atmosphere, great equipment and also private rooms to workout by yourself in! The only down fall is the blond lady at the front desk most mornings who is rude, refuses to smile and doesn't greet anyone! I even stopped and asked her where the pool was twice and did not give me an answer; rather said "it's limited access" Love genesis gym though!!
