Our store front!
They have tons of awesome shoes that I'd totally wear, but then they also have gems like these on their sale rack...
Cute CAN be comfortable!! Lots of sizes and sale-priced options too!!

One of the great retail stores in the city, worthy of making a destination from Kansas City, Topeka and beyond I'd say. And while a visit in person is a real must that's not to be missed, most are surprised to learn they ship products all over the U.S.In addition to Birkenstocks, which is what put them on the map, they also deal in Dansko, Haflinger and Chaco products. I brought a new family member from Canada in for his first pair of "Birks" and he was utterly thrilled with the experience. In spite of being told there'd be a break-in period, he barely was seen without them before heading back home. And yes, he wore them on the plane. As a long-time but infrequent customer because their products last, always happy to spread the word about the good work doing here.

I stopped into Footprints to get a pair of Birkenstocks repaired and resoled. Nikki helped me and was so, so helpful, kind and just all around lovely. She helped ensure that my repaired Birkenstocks would work for me. Letting me try on different pairs and the two types of Birkenstocks soles. I got my Birkenstocks sent back to me in KC a handful of days later and had added a vintage watch onto my order as well! The repairs are pricey but if you have a pair of leather Birkenstocks it's worth it!

Stopped by this store a few years back, "we don't have your size, sorry". Fast forward to the present.....we have a friend in Lawrence who has a couple dozen pairs of Birkenstocks and she shops here (we live in Olathe). So, given that this was an individually owned local business we gave it a shot. I bought a pair of Birkenstock shoes here about 6 months ago and the heels were worn, so we brought them in. My wife was looking for two pairs of sandals, and they didn't have them in her size, 41. So they offered her 40s, which fit closely heel to toe--if you've ever worn or known someone who has worn too small birkis, you know that cork will break down at the toe and heel.....why we bought them, I'm not sure, but when my shoe repair was complete a few days later, I returned them and asked them to order 41s. They said that because they were limited edition models they would not be able to order them for us. So I get home with my repaired shoes and go to Birkenstock.com. They have both pairs in 41, and one pair is discounted, so cheaper as well. After wearing my repaired shoes for less than 3 hours, the heel falls off on one shoe. Really? Not competent in fitting, obtaining, or repairing Birkenstocks. Selling someone over $300 worth of incorrectly fitting shoes is not an ethical practice. Proven incompetence in repair work, so no need to drive all the way to Lawrence to experience failure and frustration. So much for supporting local business. Really a disappointing experience on so many levels. If they have your size, I suppose you could buy here. It sure didn't work for us.

I was convinced by the sales girl to get the wrong size. I expressed my concerns in the store, but she continued to reassure me she knew the sizing. They had no smaller sizes in 4 of the different colors of the shoe I looked at. So on her recommendation, I bought a size too big. I guess she was just trying to sell them.I came back just 3 days later to return the shoes with the box and receipt, and was told that they were now used and I would only get $100 back on $140. The staff then blamed me for the error, and I ended up getting shoes in a non-preferred color and paying the difference! If I were the owner, I would have discounted the new shoes enough to not make the customer pay a second time for the same pair of shoes, in the wrong color, especially when the workers had created the problem. Unpleasant interaction. I won't be back. There are many many other places to buy birkenstocks in Lawrence and online!

Suffice it to say that I *can't* say as much as I want about my enthusiasm for Footprints! I love this place and can quite easily proclaim it as my favorite shoe store in the whole wide world! I've been shopping here for my very most favorite shoes throughout the past 20 years and have never found another shop that parallels the variety, comfort and quality of the shoes here. I have hard-to-fit feet and I'm very much of the camp that form and function are equally important. I won't wear cute shoes more than once if they hurt my feet, but I'm willing to spend a decent chunk of change on a pair that not only looks and feels good, but will last. My inner hippie loves all the Birkenstock lines (and you'd be amazed at how many styles besides the familiar Arizona there actually are!), but sometimes I need to dress things up a little. Brands such as Haflinger and Art fill that bill for me. Footprints also carries Chaco, Dansko, Børn and other lesser known, but equally fantastic brands. I do best with shoes that are sized with European measurements, as I find them more acurate and consistent than the American system. When I'm trying shoes in American sizes they range anywhere from 9.5 to 11 (and many brands don't make half sizes after size 10), but in European size, it's always a 41 (narrow in the Birks, which especially eases my self-consciousness about having big feet). Finally the bigest bonus about Footprints is that they always have a clearance rack where it's not uncommon to find shoes marked down as much as 50%. They also have a huge warehouse sale once or twice a year where I have spent hundreds (if not a thousand) dollars over the years on shoes, many of which I still own. It's a truly euphoric experience if you're both a shoe person and a little bit on the granola side like myself. Bonus: It's also next door to Mass Street Music, so if my husband has been dragged along with me, he gets the reward of shopping for guitars while he waits on me!

Great service. They cut extra length off my straps of shoes purchased, sanded down straps of another pair to make it more comfortable and cut off straps of an old pair free of charge. Wonderful service.
