El Sol

As a student here in Ottawa I have tried el mezcal a couple of times and concluded it was excellent. People told me el sol was good as well sadly it is not even close. food is just straight up worse simple as that.

I decided to try out El Sol with my wife a few days ago. It mush have been pretty busy because when we entered, we ended up having to wait a few minutes until someone acknowledged that we were there. The entire time there was someone else in front of us and a couple other people entered after us and was waiting in a line to be seated. All throughout the meal it was like that, as if there were not enough waiters there.I ordered the Burrito el Sol and my wife had the Carnitas Platter. I thought the burrito was pretty bland and tended to leak grease from the ground beef, but my wife liked her meal a lot. At the end, they had us pay at the register in the front rather than at the table which was probably a good thing since it would have likely taken forever to get back to us. It was a decent place, but I liked El Mezcal down the road a little more.

This was my first experience at El Sol. I was told it was a good place to eat. I was, however, very dissapointed. The salsa was bland, the strawberry margarita tasted like Hawaiian punch with tequila and the food was cold. The waitress was nice enough but a little on the ditzy side. Very sad this place was so bad because I really did want it to be better than the other mexican restaurant in town. Unfortunately we wont be back.

When visiting the area, I have always found El Sol a nice and pleasant stop. The service has always been accommodating. The food is good is always satisfying and more than ample portions. I will be back and would always recommend.

The best place in town to eat if your wanting Mexican! Food is great, salsa is AMAZING, and everyone we have came across working there always has a smile on their face and very friendly. Highly recommend this place!

By far the best Mexican food we've had in Kansas! Authentic tacos "con solo cebolla y cilantro"... ask for the hot green salsa and try the carnitas, carne asada, chorizo, and al pastor. Muy rico!

A former favorite place for authentic Tex-Mex and Mexican foods. Something happened when their closest competition closed for a lengthy time. Service became sketchy, wait times escalated and prices soared. Authentic prepared food evolved into a menu filled with a selection of food tasting like freezer section boxed distribution center mass prepared Mexican styled foods. What was special digressed into a weekly taco night special... still no value for the dollar. Want a drink? A Margarita from Applebee's is a better bargain and seems to have more tequila. Sorry El Sol but your quality and value for my dollar has went from one of the best to when there are no other options "go to El Sol".

The chips are GF / street Tacos are Gf. The food was very tasty! I enjoyed a very nice margarita as well! Strawberry is soooo good! Will be back! Very nice staff

the best food in Ottawa, the workers there are so nice and doing the best they can.I love the food. I recommend this spot to eat. Plus the manger there is there and making sure everything goes right.

Usually I love el sol, I prefer it over any other Mexican restaurant in Ottawa. It's taco Tuesday today & I wanted queso, chips, & some soft tacos. My friend went in & was approached by a women who said "where have you been? You ordered almost an hour ago". First off I didn't know they were concerned with me & what I was doing. Got in got the food & got out, realized we left the drink we ordered there tried to go back in through the front but no answer. Called 5 times while they watched me stand there knocking & calling still refusing to answer the call or the door. Get home to finally eat & the chips are disgusting, they really need to change out the oilPronto! The cheese dip was very watery & had very little to no taste at all.
