Never has been to this place...but it's a real good one in KC! Ponaks used to be our go-to spot, but this is our new favorite. See that red sauce on the enchilada....it has a great pepper flavor of some sort...that is a good deep rich flavor. The deep fried taco with ground beef...another winner of an entree item. Tamale is a well composed tamale. Pork filling was perfect. White cheese dip was a good dip. Beans and rice.....well above average side items. The treat on the night: we got to meet the owner lady - Estella. Certainly a sweet little lady, that seems to genuinely care about her dishes. Great to see owners like her that care. Load up in the car and visit this great Mexican place!

This is the most authentic mole I've found. It's as close to Nana B's I've had. Margs are good. Salsa and chips were on point!!!The wife got a tamale and chimi combo meal. Both tasted great as well.Service was fast was around 8 when we showed up on a Wed night so they were putting up chairs while we were eating but we didn't feel rushed just heads up if it's slow they might be closing early during week night? I don't blame them just a heads up.If you haven't been give it a go but go for an authentic dish or recommendation from staff to try something new too!We will be back that mole is incredibly delicious

I love El Patron because there's always a seat whether they accommodate you upstairs or downstairs. It's my go to Mexican restaurant with the family. The food's a good price and it's pretty tasty as well.My personal opinion is they serve the best margaritas in town. You can actually taste the tequila.

I have not eaten at El Patron in a long time for no particular reason. But, I won't be waiting too long to return. My food was good tasting and just as described. Service was also very good and friendly.

El Patron is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the KC area. Their margaritas are my absolute favorite. I always have to get a house margarita, on the rocks, salt. Simple and so good. They have several other margaritas in addition to other alcoholic beverages. I've honestly enjoyed everything I've ever ordered. A couple of my favorites and go tos are the pork tamales and chicken flautas. The salsa is good and has a lot of flavor. The portions are huge and I always have several meals leftover. They have a rooftop patio that is glorious when the weather is nice. The restaurant is split into an upstairs and downstairs. Both have a bar area. Both are good and have a different ambiance. The service is always great. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Definitely check them out and have a margarita or two.

I try not to give one-star reviews. This was the most disappointing experience I have had in a while. Here is why:Location: 9/10 El Patron is located near Southwest Boulevard near the Bottoms and Downtown KC. It has been around for years and was once known for it's Tex-Mex style food surrounded by urban vibes.Customer Service 1.5/10 For a Saturday evening, it was pretty packed. We were able to be seated upstairs near the balcony. It took about ten minutes for the server to get our drink order and bring chips. The server was basically a ghost the entire time. Not once were waters refilled and she forgot to add a couple of food items to our order. Food: 1/10 The food came quickly - about ten minutes after ordering. It was lukewarm and flavorless. The rice had zero flavor and was hard, and the beans came right out of the can. I could not even finish my food. The server asked for a box, and I told her no. The best part of the meal was the chips and salsa. The queso was thick, not warm, and flavorless. How do you mess up queso?! Our meal was $50, which was not worth it at all. Overall: 3.8/10 This place used to be decent, but the pandemic has definitely changed things for them. I love Mexican food, but this was the worst food I have had in a very long time. We will not be returning to this place. Even if someone offered a million dollars, I would not do it.

Looking for a solid Mexican restaurant that you can eat all the chips and salsa you want while drinking a margarita and watching the Chiefs play? Then look no further than El Patron. This place has been around forever, and sure is it Tex-Mex, maybe, but who cares! Food is always on point and you just can't pass up on the cheese dip here. We always love their margaritas, but be careful they are strong! We each had our own plates, winner for us was the arrachera and shrimp which comes with all the sides and of course your choice of either flour or corn tortillas. One of us did the choose-your-own combo platter, with enchilada/taco/tamale. Their fajitas are always a classic here as well. You just really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. A fun place to bring the family, hang with friends or even sit by yourself at the bar. 5/5 stars for great food and fun time.

We celebrate family bday dinners and the staff does great with big groups and the chips and salsa don't stop! Get a cup of the cheese sauce to go with your cocktail! The shrimp tacos were tasty and we all enjoyed our meal.

I was under restraint tonight as I visited my favorite Mexican restaurant. Only one El Pastor taco. But still the shimp stuffed avocados. This is not your typical Mexican food restaurant. Best Margaritas in town.

This is the most consistent Mexican restaurant in the entire city. We've been coming for 15+ years and it is just great, every single time. Guacamole is wonderful, chips are fresh, salsa is perfect, every item on the menu is wonderful and don't forget about the margaritas. These are hands down the best in the city. This place is just lights out stellar. Service is always good and pricing is reasonable.Do yourself a favor and make this a stop on your list if you've not already.
