El Caballo de Oro

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone craving some good Mexican food! The queso served here is beyond amazing, the best cheese you can get anywhere! The service is always fast and correct, the vibes are always great! Sometimes there's live music back near the restrooms! Margaritas here are always good! If you've never had melted queso before, you HAVE to try it here!

Always a safe bet you will enjoy your meal here!My favorite is the street tacos and I always mix it up with steak and pork. Super good! Corn shells are the best. Cheese dip is a bit runny but still really tasty!Recommend the margaritas, large tap beers, fajitas and crispy tacos as well.

Excellent food and service. The steak burritos were nothing but steak and not a lot of fillers and very tasty.

I am from TEXAS where u get hit or miss TexMex. I never imagined I would find a place in Kansas that had outstanding Mexican food! I was sooooo surprised with my first bite! I ordered combo fajita nachos. DELISH! The salsa and ohhh $1.99 margarita was on point! Can I bring this place to my hometown???? Pittsburg KS is a quaint lil town. Be sure to stop by El Cabello de Oro and EAT!!!!

Still just a 2 star place. Having lived most my life in CA, i know what good mexican food tastes like. Not sure what the deal is in Kansas but the mexican cuisine here is just bad by comparison. They wouldnt last a year if they served this food in CA. A little salt and in the case of mexican food, a little spice/heat would take the food from mediocre to good. A very cheap fix. Its not just these guys, its a standard among most places around here

We stopped to eat at this establishment prior to a concert in town. The food was good and the serving size was a good sized portion. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean.

I have been coming to this place for quite some time now and tonight was the first time I had a negative experience. I was over charged on drinks and when trying to talk with management about it they said I was confused all because I ordered a non special day. Very rude and unprofessional, will not return to this restaurant.

Since I wrote my first review in 2013, the restaurant is now in a new and larger location. I don't especially like the interior/exterior, but the food is excellent. I highly recommend the Pollo Tapatio, which I get every time we are there. Service is usually spot on, especially when the owner is there. This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Pittsburg/Fort Scott area. You have to go to Joplin or Springfield to find better. There is another restaurant in Lamar by the same name, but the food is not the same, way too salty!
