El Alteno

This is definitely a hidden gem! There is two entrances, one in the front of the building and one in the back where you park your car. I came here for a quick lunch and it was worth every single penny! Good authentic Mexican food is hard to come by these days. My co worker recommend coming here due to us wanting tacos, everything on the menu is reasonably priced. It was nothing on there over $25! And lunch was literally $8.95 for most selections. I had grilled shrimp and steak, rice and beans with guacamole. SO good! My co workers had an asada burrito , 2 chicken flautas and one taco all served with rice and beans. The server could've been more attentive to the table considering it wasn't busy. I still had a pleasant experience while dining in, however there is an up charge if you use your cars instead of paying with cash. I'll definitely be back when on this side of town. I highly recommend coming here.

Authentic and good quality food. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and seemed anticipate what we were going to ask. We'll be coming back!

This place is an absolute treasure!We are new to the area and I stumbled on this place while visiting the UPS store.This is the best, Mexican food. My wife and I have ever had! We have visited several times, and will be customers for as long as we live nearbyEverything we have tried is absolutely excellent and the staff is friendly, competent, and speedy.We are so happy we found this place!

My boyfriend and I hit up El Alteno last night. He's lived in the area for years but hadn't ever made it there (and I live in OP) so we decided to go to try something new for both of us. First impression was you can tell it's kind of a divey joint when you walk in but it was very clean and they've done a nice job with the decor for a Mexican restaurant at this price point, compared to others I've been to around town. The service was very prompt and friendly. Chips came out quickly and I love when restaurants provide separate salsas for each guest. We ordered a guacamole to share, I got a steak chimichanga and my boyfriend got a pork burrito (I can't remember which one). The guacamole was just ok. I like mine to be a little chunkier and with a bit more lime. My chimichanga was delicious and very cheesy. It did get a little greasy as it sat but I thought the taste was great. I also loved the rice. Beans were nothing to write home about but tasted fine. My boyfriend really enjoyed his burrito as well. Prices were very fair, though the guacamole was expensive compared to our meal, but that's everywhere. I would happily go back and I think it's going to go into my boyfriend's carryout rotation.

My family has been going here since it opened! We love it! The service is always wonderful. They make it feel like one big family. The food is great! I have loved every meal, especially the fajitas and chorizo queso. Will always recommends this place to anyone!

Simple authentic Mexican restaurant. Small place with old decor. But very good service, and good food. Queso Birria is the best I've found anywhere

This is the best Mexican food I've had in the KC metro area! Generous portions, lots of cheese and toppings.The chicken soup is so wonderful! Served in a big raised stone bowl with lots of chicken and delicious broth. The enchiladas melt in your mouth here. I wish I could eat here every day!
