Cupcake Á La Mode

9/14/2024 @ 825pmI hate to write this review but it is more on the customer service side vs the food. Unfortunately we never had a chance to try the cupcakes due to the very rude employee that was very unhelpful and unprofessional from the start. When we first walked in we were not greeted at all. The young girl who was working behind the cashier registered proceeded to tell us that it was closing closing hours despite the hours posted stating they closed at 9. She then rudely proceeds to tell us that she was working on a door dash order and that there were very limited cupcakes left. We asked should we leave and she stated again with a nonchalant attitude again we are doing closing procedures and I am working on this order "so you can wait but it may take a while and I might not have what you need". There was no I'm sorry or these are the items we have on hand. We felt very dismissed and for us to be visiting from out of town excited to try this place" we immediately felt unwelcome and left. I am not spending my money at a place where an employee could care less if we stay or go let alone give the common curtesy to hello when we walk in..better customer service training/communication is needed.

Last night (3/4/25) my friend and I really wanted a dessert after dinner. I checked my Apple Maps and it said this place was open until 7pm, and it was only 6pm at the time. We walked into the shop at 6:15 and a lady from the back just yells out "WE'RE CLOSED." in a super rude tone. So we left (obviously). But I don't understand why the door was unlocked or why the Apple Maps said they were open until 7 if that's not true. Please update your hours on the maps and please lock the door if it's truly closed. Also the rudeness was just really unnecessary... a simple "sorry we closed at 6!" would've sufficed.

My favorite cupcake shop! I have been a fan of this place for YEARS! Came back in town and literally ran (I thought they were about to close for the night lol) to get me a chocolate obsession cupcake. It brought back so many great memories of enjoying these when I was younger. These cupcakes are always fresh, moist, and not over the top with the sugar.

I have been coming here anytime I need a sweet treat in the plaza. It's kind of tucked away in my opinion so you may not see it right away but once you find it, you might be hooked if you have a sweet tooth like me. They have lots of different flavors to choose from. I have had many of them at this point and you can't go wrong. They definitely taste as described in the name of the cupcake! I wish they were a little bit more dimensional in flavor but every cupcake has been consistent in sweetness, cake moistness, etc. I wish there was more of a seating area, but the space is pretty tight. There is usually always one staff member, but they aren't that busy when I go so it's easy to grab and go.

Cupcake a la mode ought to be ashamed of themself. An eight inch cake was ordered for a special four year old girl, Havi by her military father! The pictured cake was what was made - six inches with Havi's name spelled wrong as Habi. The cake looks like a child made it. The owner was unwilling to speak by phone, and only offered a store credit and Katie, the woman working at the store was entirely rude! She kicked him out!If this business treats military families, let alone single dads with disabled children this way, they should not be in business.

The service was super friendly! It wasn't too packed in the shop which was nice, gave me time to pick a cupcake! The cupcake itself was sweet rich and fluffy but did not taste like raspberry lemonade one bit. Maybe the flavor was there but very faint.

I stopped by to grab a box of cupcakes for a get-together except the place reeked the second I opened the door. I don't recall being disgusted by any establishment until now. I was a customer for the last decade or so but I'll never a shop there again.

I visited the store at 10:50 a.m. Their door sign says they open at 10:30 a.m., but the doors were locked, even though I could see cupcakes displayed. I tried calling, but there was no answer. My two young daughters were very disappointed.

The best cupcakes in KC! Would recommend. Stopped in the other day around 4 and they whipped up 3 fresh cupcakes. The French toast is amazing and the butter beer was great. Service was very friendly as well. This is not a sit down spot nor are there any places to sit down.

It makes me so sad to leave this review, because Cupcake a la Mode has been my favorite cupcake place for over 10 years. They used to make the very best cupcakes and frosting!! But the last 3 to 5 times we've been there, the employees aren't visible, and when you find them they are rude. And worst of all, the cupcakes just don't taste as good anymore. My husband went to the store on Wornall for my birthday yesterday and ordered 4 mocha cupcakes. (Which used to be amazing!!) The employee looked unhappy that she had to make the cupcakes... and while they looked correct, the frosting was not mocha. (It looked chocolate, but didn't even taste like chocolate. No idea what was put on top. It wasn't tasty.) We give up and won't try again. I'm so sad.
