This will be my go-to place for wine in Lawrence from now on. It's clean and organized inside, and they don't even carry your typical mass-produced wines--you can tell the owners have carefully curated their selection and they are very knowledgeable and helpful about the wines they have. They even carry a small selection of fancy snacks and foods that will pair well with wine. For someone who is trying to branch out and try more wines and learn more about them, this is a perfect option.

During the pandemic, I do not go into liquor stores to buy wine bottles. I prefer to call, make my choices, pay in advance, and have the wine brought out to my car. But without being able to walk around the store, I sometimes need advice and suggestions on the phone. The person I have talked with on the phone at this outstanding wine store is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. I call on the phone, make my choices, and pay in advance. When I arrive, I open the trunk of my car and call to say I have arrived. He brings out the order and puts the bottles into my trunk. I never even had to open the window of the car. I got out of the car only to close the trunk, after he had returned to the store. Next time I will open an account with the store, so they can retain my credit card information. That will make the procedure even easier.

My husband and I stopped in a few months ago on our way back to the KC area and were pleasantly surprised at how helpful the owner was. We are back in town and stopped in a few times so far and again we are so impressed with their incredible selection of wine, liquor, and mixers. We've met both business partners now and appreciate their willingness to help us make the best selections. We can't wait for future wine tastings to resume!

Go here and buy your wine. And your beer. Yes, I said beer too! I walked in expecting to buy wine here and then go elsewhere to buy beer. Lo and behold, City Wine Market sells both!! I love wine, I don't know much about it so I usually buy wines that I know, or something that's around $35. The guy who helped me pick out some new wines confirmed what I've always suspected -- the price of the wine isn't a good indication of how it's going to taste. He talked me into trying a new red and a new white because I told him I want to break out of my "pinot or chardonnay" rut. Both of his recommendations were delicious! I'm going back to buy more! Thanks for the great suggestions Handsome Guy with Glasses! As for the beer -- I love that you can build your own six-pack. Beau loves the pale ales -- but never wants to drink more than one or two beers. My two favorite beer drinking girlfriends are IPA snobs. I'm a fan of porters, stouts and hard ciders. Soooo, it's great that I can get one or two six-packs to get all the beers we like! I also really liked that the guy working let me know he was happy to help if I wanted it but he didn't stalk me as I browsed the store. It drives me bananas when clerks follow me around asking me questions every three minutes.Yes, this wine shop is fantastic! I can't wait to go back!

Things I love about City Wine Market:1. The staff - Ask Steve or Jamie anything about wine and they can tell you. They know their vino.2. The layout - If you're new to wine you'll be able to find your selection based on whether the wine is light, medium, or full bodied. Figure out what you like then learn about the different grape varietals.3. The wine club - Why pay full price when you can get 10% off everything in the store? Join the wine club and in addition to that you'll get at least 2 bottles of wine every month (there's more benefits but I can't remember them all).4. The beer selection - not your average beers, these are quality beers locally and regionally made as well as a full domestic and import selection.5. The weekly emails featuring the wine and beer of the week deals. If you live in Lawrence, this should be your wine/beer store. If you leave in KC or Topeka and you're going to be in Lawrence and you want some good wine, look no further.

I recently went here to pick out a wine for a special occasion. I'm the type of guy that knows enough about wine that I steer away from the obvious choices...and to often into an expensive disaster. The curated selection of low to moderately priced wines along with a helpful and approachable staff made finding the right wine a relaxing experience. The staff seem to have an uncanny and intimate knowledge of every wine they carry. You can't pick a bad wine at this place. I've been in more than once and the wine just seems perfect for what I'm buying it for. This isn't about buying an expensive wine that will impress everyone, but about finding that perfect balance of price and quality that makes for an accessible wine Additionally, the beer selection is great!

This store is a dream come true, especially if you love wine, but beer and other libations as well. The owners will become your friends! They know what I like and are always ready to suggest something. If you aren't sure exactly what you want, they can still help you. These are down-to-earth good people, who really know their business. The selection is amazing. Discounts for teachers, too!

This is a great wine store-great selection with great prices. The guys know their wines and can help you select the perfect wine for the perfect occasion. Also like the "pick a six pack" beers-you can try several varieties of micro brews. Next time you need wine head to sixth and wakarusa. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up.

This is a gem of a place. The owner is very knowledgeable and is always ready with a good suggestion - just tell him what you're planning to pair with! If wine info is your thing, they've got plenty of it to share. I've never been disappointed with a wine from this store, and I don't mind driving past the usual "haunts" to get here. As good as it gets!
