The atmosphere and "vibe" is what you're coming for, the helmets on the ceiling make this sports bar a sports museum and it definitely has some rich history. However, the food isn't anything too special. It's standard bar food but, I haven't tried a lot on the menu. I remember from a while back that the burgers were a solid choice with a nice variety of options such as a 323 burger which is topped with salty bacon, pungent creamy blue cheese, zippy horseradish spread and grilled onions, classic burgers as well as, black bean veggie burgers. They are also known for their traditional Rueben which is made which thickly sliced tender corned beef, a nice heaping of sauerkraut that is creamy from the mix of thousand island dressing and a blanket of Swiss cheese all piled on top of beautiful marbled rye bread. If you're going for a full entree experience I think the London broil is probably pretty popular but, I've yet to try it. The last time I was there for lunch to catch a KU game, I went with a fajita chicken salad which was full of fresh colorful vegetables and had a generous topping of crumbly cojita cheese. I also liked the slight spice of the chipotle ranch. It was an overall good salad and I would consider ordering it again. The service here is usually attentive and the food comes out quickly even when there are quite a few big parties around.

Good: Cool atmosphere and memorabiliaOk: food was average at bestBad: expected to watch football at sports bar, they did not have the major conferences' packages so limited, annoyingly for the one team I wanted to watch (big 10 network).

They had a nice concept with the helmets and school banners...but they were dusty and hanging over my food. Not a lot of diverse schools either but cool concept, just my observation. For a random day it must've been busier than normal because they had one poor waitress working the whole room and the bartender had to tend too. She was very sweet, but we definitely missed refills, our appetizer never came, and it was slow service. I tried the special, a country fried steak with green beans and curly fries instead of potatoes. My fries were good. My steak was hard to chew and the gravy wasn't very good on top. We also had the sloppy Joe and the chorizo taste just didn't come through.

I decided to try this place again. I could not remember what I had before. It is known for its sports memorabilia and pork tenderloin. The waitress was great despite the fact we thought she was short handed. I tried their famous pork tenderloin with curly fries and added a side salad. The salad was good along with the curly fries. The tenderloin was okay but not as great as I anticipated. My friend had the fish and chips and same result. It was just okay. My other friend had the block burger with sloppy Joe on top. Disappointment on that as well! The atmosphere was great for a sports bar but the food did not live up to the hype.

Pretty cool sports bar and museum! They have all sorts of sports memorabilia in the entire restaurant including the bathrooms! Service was excellent. Our server was very courteous and quick. I had Fish and Chips (subbed with sweet potato fries). It was hot and crispy, not oily, but needed a little seasoning, which the tartar sauce took care of. Chris devoured his ginormous tenderloin sandwich and Brian had country fried steak. Needless to say, everyone was happy!

I miss Jim Chappell. I know he would never stand for this, nine of us should. The US Flag flying upside and at half. I did go in and after 20 mins sitting at the empty bar. I was never greeted or asked if I wanted anything. Maybe the US Flag upside is a sign of distress. So either Chappells does not care less about the respect of our flag. Or the ship is in distress and sending help messages. Miss you, Jim Chappell

I had heard of this place for years and wanted to visit with my son. While the ambiance is pretty cool, and fun to look around at, the service and food were not at the same level.I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and it came out cold. The whole experience was "meh." Glad I went once, but this place's allure is outdated and they need to seriously revamp their mystique if they want to stay viable in the future.

Stopped by just for a drink (ordered their version of a margarita, and it was great!), didn't even the read the part of Sports Museum! It's all about the atmosphere here. Everyone is so nice, including the regulars! They were able to recommend some spots to visit while I was in town.I ended up staying longer than I anticipated, so I ordered an appetizer of freshly made chicken tenders! Let me just tell you, this is absolutely good! Carey took great care of my colleague and I!

Chappell's wasn't ever going to be on my list of places to try because of it's less-than-four-star review on Yelp (as of September 2022). But one of my friends insisted we try a place other than our usual spots, and he suggested this restaurant. I wasn't thrilled, but I figured stepping out of my comfort zone wasn't going to kill me. I had anxiety that my hard-earned, saved-up calories for the week were going to be wasted on a crappy place. However! I was pleasantly surprised! Let's talk about the dining room decorations-- they were pretty cool. The helmets on the ceiling and the framed memorabilia were a nice touch. It gives you a mixed vibe between classy gentlemen's country club and sports pub/Applebee's (which is not a bad thing!). Service was prompt and professional. We were checked on multiple times throughout our lunch, and we felt taken care of. Now, for the most important part: the food! I was VERY relieved when our food was served hot and seemed fresh. I was scared that it would taste of freezer burn or something worse. I was seriously waiting for the 2-3 star food to arrive, based on the reviews. But, the dry-rub wings we ordered were fresh and CRISPY. That's one of the most important things about wings-- they HAVE to be crispy!! The buffalo sauce was amazing! The burger I ordered had FRESH lettuce and tomatoes, and the patty had a good beef flavor. It wasn't over-seasoned, and I appreciated that it didn't taste like a frozen puck. My friend saw the portion of beef I got on my burger and regretted not ordering that instead of his chicken tenders and fries. He said they were good, but not necessarily anything to write home about. Would we go back? Yes! It's not the best food I've ever had, but it was solid. Did I mention that they had CURLY fries? And that they were fried to perfection? Yeah. Yeah, just marinate on that.

This is the least stars that I've ever given... When I entered Chappell's I was impressed with the styling and ambiance. I was greeted promptly and served a beer immediately. That's where great ends. I ordered the ribeye medium rare baked potato and asparagus, with a side salad, and bleu cheese. The salad had ranch dressing (which I despise) they added bleu cheese crumbles. I guess that makes it bleu cheese dressing. The meal was served before I could barely start my salad almost as though everyone was in a hurry. The ribeye was cool and red (rare), tough, and flavorless. The potato was shriveled and cold. The asparagus was horrid little strings. The garlic toast was good, and the price was very reasonable.
