Case Park offers one of the best vistas in Kansas City. Lewis and Clark recognized the magnificence of the strategic location overlooking the confluence of The Kansas River into The Missouri River when they first visited in 1806. The northern point of the park is referred to as Clark's Point and a grand statue honoring the expedition now rests there. The park offers lots of green space, old trees, playground equipment and old rock walls and paths, but the crown jewel is the views it offers. The northerly and westerly views are unbeatable for seeing 2 rivers, 2 states, 4 counties, The Buck O'Neil Bridge, The Wheeler Downtown Airport, The West Bottoms, The River Market and plenty of land beyond. The views are even better in the colder months when the perimeter trees do not have leaves. A perfect place to introduce a newcomer to Kansas City's geography, history and natural beauty.

This park is just up the road from where we live so we've been coming here for years. It's a long stretch of grass that runs along the bluff overlooking the West Bottoms and the river. So, needless to say, the views are spectacular from the various overlook points. There is parking, which is nice for a down town park, and there is plenty of room to run around. A sidewalk loops the park which is nice for joggers and strollers. There is a small, non-traditional playground at the south corner of the park meant for kids who are a bit older (elementary school age, not pre-school or younger). Although I bring my pre-toddler here often and she likes to just sit on the astroturf and watch the older kids. There used to be grills but those were taken out which is a shame. I used to come here and grill with my family. Having said all that, I am only giving this park 4 stars because of the inevitable issue with homeless people who frequently hang around and sleep at this park. It hasn't been so bad lately, but when I've been here before, we've been approached by some of these guys asking for money or cigarettes. So, if you're not too keen on that aspect of a downtown park, you might want to steer clear.

What an INCREDIBLE VIEW! You're on the edge of a cliff on a bluff overlooking the bottoms, the Missouri River, and the downtown airport. There is a neat statue of Lewis & Clark along with plaques (in English & French), too to signify that they explored the area. This park is dog friendly, but not enclosed (there is talk about making it a dog park). We enjoy long walks along the cliffs at this park and it's nice to go out there during lunch and watch the planes take off and to listen to the trains. You can also find benches, shade (under trees), water fountain (for drinking), and grills to use.For kids, the have a playground.Drawbacks:Stay away July 4th. It gets insane here with drunk people shooting off fireworks day and night, cars navigating narrow streets with illegally parked cars, and gangs. Also avoid evenings (or at least be careful). Criminal elements hang out here, though it's much nicer than it was a few years ago. Although the statue is neat to see at night (all lit up), I heard they also have cameras and speakers wired to the Police Station that can capture suspicious activity at night.

Clark's Point at Case Park (8th & Jefferson in Quality Hill). On September 15, 1806, Lewis and Clark stood on a high bluff and surveyed the vast Missouri River Valley. Lewis noted that it would be a "commanding situation for a fort." A fort of sorts occupies the site today: the notoriously exclusive River Club, built in the 1940's for the city's power elite. Fortunately for the masses, a slightly shabby public park (Case Park) surrounds the club, making the historic lookout a spot that can be enjoyed by all. So take in the views and fancy yourself a bold explorer, or perhaps a moneyed mover and shaker. Tip: The lookout is a great location for weather enthusiasts to view incoming storms.See photos and more on my Tumblr blog, The Family Unit (link under profile).

This park has one of the most gorgeous views in the city. They have plenty of sidewalks and benches that are kept in good condition. There is also a large field that is kept relatively poop free by the groundskeepers. It's a nice walk and great for pictures.

Thanks to George Kessler's vision Kansas City has many spectacular parks. Some have fountains, some have rose gardens, and the list of amenities goes on and on. But this little park on the edge of the bluff overlooking the West Bottoms, the Broadway Bridge, the Downtown Airport, and the Confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers stands alone for me as my favorite park of all in the Midwest. In the summer I'll get out of the car and go sit on the concrete wall with my feet hanging over the edge and watch the planes come and go, and the occasional barge make it's way up or down the Missouri. If it's cold or rainy I'll park and still sit and watch even if air traffic is slow. This is my place to go when I needed to think, or to talk, or to just enjoy being on the edge of a big city yet in a beautiful place. This place has very special significance for me because my mother recently passed away, and on the day I'm writing this review, she will be put to rest later this morning. On the last drive we got to take together we ended up here as our last stop before I took her home. And we talked about many things...and it is here that we resolved any and all issues, and it is here that we remembered all of the good times we had together exploring the city I called home for so many years. It is only fitting that on the very day that she is put to rest...that I write a review of a place that holds so many special memories for both of us. I leave you with one thing I'd like to share. We were told she wouldn't make it 2 years. She made it 13. She had 3 major rounds of chemo that caused her to go Code Blue and end up at death's door each time. Yet she fought back..and when she got out, we somehow ended up at Case Park and she always found her strength again until this last time...when it was just too much. But our talk that last time gave her the inner peace to make a very tough decision. A park can be a peaceful place...and can help one to find inner peace and Case Park helped her to find inner peace. And after her passing as I was in a state of mind I wouldn't wish on anyone, I took off driving and I ended up at Case Park...and I went down to the wall and looked out over that view...and then looked up and remembered everything......Thank you for reading this far and for letting me perhaps overshare our story with all of you. As you sit looking out at the view, I hope it brings you the same peace....that it brought to us. 5 Stars, and permanent placement on my Mythical 6th Star List...for places that go beyond the 5 Stars Yelp lets one give. Love ya mom.
