Carmen’s Cantina & Mexican Grill

I love Mexican and overall this is the best in KC. They have a location in Lees Summit as well

We arrived and found immediate seating. The service was initially fast and friendly, but as we were eating towards the end of the night, we felt slightly forgotten. The food was delicious, and there was plenty of it! We really enjoyed our meals, and especially the selection of vegetarian combos for our consummate vegetarian. On the table is an ad for desserts that looked so amazing that we had to try one. We chose the strawberry/blueberry cheesecake... well here is where it gets a little interesting. We wrangled another server, because ours was at the bar...? She went to a case up front and said she had two cheesecakes left. Well, we asked for both of them!We were definitely catfished by the picture on the table, because the desert looked nothing like it. It was a square piece of cheesecake a small scoop of cherries and whipped cream... the picture is a fancy bake molded cheesecake with a heaping pile of strawberries and blueberries. The dessert was not bad, but it was not what was pictured. We laughed. We ate it. We were underwhelmed. lol!

A nice little hidden gem, we stopped by for dinner after Opening Day at The K. My sister had been to Carme's before and suggested this place. We walked in and sat ourselves, a server followed behind with menus. Nicole our server was friendly, brought us chips and salsa, took our drink order and we told her we were waiting on 2 more people-we invited our Uncle and Aunt to join us. I ordered a watermelon on the rocks margarita, my friend ordered raspberry margarita and my sister opted for a Pepsi. I was hungry so I went ahead and ordered my meal, the pork Chilé verde w/rice & beans, my sister order a burrito with pork w/a side of rice and my friend ordered a bean and cheese burrito w/side. The meals came out fairly quickly, it was hot, fresh and delicious!! Service was great, the restaurant itself is fairly small, the bathrooms were nice and clean. I will definitely try out Carmen's again.

Close to our hotel we decided to hit up the place for a margarita. We were on time for 2 flavored margarita for 8.99 each. We got a small thing of guacamole with the help of the waitress. There are multiple tvs in the restaurant and good smiling staff. It was decorated with bright colors and lots of energy for the room. Everything we ordered was really good. We shared a shrimp/crab chimichanga. It was way more food than we needed but enjoyed it just the same.

Food was ok. It's not seasoned well but it's edible. If you don't like a lot of flavor you'll love it here. The wait time isn't bad but it could be just a tad bit better. It has a large dine in area and several tables. I'd say give it a try. I've had worse, but I've had better. I'd give it a 4/10. Love seasoning and I just don't feel they marinated or seasoned the meats. Their chips and salsa was the highlight of my meal. Their spicy salsa was the bomb!

Food was delicious and didn't have to wait long at all. Very friendly service. Very authentic feel when you came in the door.

I had a burrito that came with rice and beans. It was good. My niece loves the street tacos. I've only done carryout or drive-through.

Tommy and the Tastebuds, always on the lookout for good Mexican fare, do recommend Carmen's when you're in the mood for a "south of the border" culinary treat. The food is fantastic and plenty of it.The only reason we gave them a four was lack of decor. Could use a little sprucing up. Good place to practice your Espanol.

We feel lucky Carmen's is close to home. The food is great and we work a lot, so it's like getting home cooking.

The food and service are outstanding! The gauc is the best I have ever had. Nice and clean, great atmosphere.
