The Golf Club of Kansas is one of the premier golf courses, available to be played by the public, in Kansas City. I personally consider it in my Top 3 of courses I enjoy playing in the entire metro. The Golf Course of Kansas is one of the newer courses in the metro, thanks to a budding trend of land reclamation projects. In this case, an old rock quarry has been re-purposed into a golf course. As a result there are some incredible topographical features that you simply will not find on other courses around here (Stone Canyon is about the closest and honestly I don't think it compares). On this course you will find incredible elevation changes, drives over canyons to reach the fairways, challenging bunker placement, and incredible vistas (including things like old mine shafts and rock walls from the quarry. The fairways (which were in EXCELLENT shape when I played) are Zoysia, greens are bentgrass, and the rough is a combination of bluegrass & fescue in the first cut, and natural prairie grasses and plants in the second cut (good luck finding your ball if it goes in there). This course is also home to some of my favorite holes to play in the city. First off is #3, which is a Par 3. You are setup to shoot over a gap onto an island style green. The left is protected by a rock wall leftover from the quarry and the front and right is a sheer drop off to the old quarry below , which is now flooded with water. An old mineshaft is also visible from both the tee box and the green. You can go a bit long and be safe, though not by much, or you can shank it left and have it still kick off the rock and wind up putting for birdie.Next up is #8, which is in my top 3 Par 5s for the metro (the others being #17 on the Outlaw at Paradise Pointe and #14 on the back nine of this course). The hole is over 600yds from most tee boxes. You start of with a monster drive across a quarry canyon that's filled in with native grasses. The fairway is 220+ from most tee boxes. If you're a big hitter you can opt to cut the corner but there is a bunker protecting that shot so you have to be accurate and lucky. Then the hole doglegs hard left and runs downhil before running back uphill to the green! It's an incredible challenge to reach in three and stay on the green which has steep run-offs in all directions. The other hole I really love is #14. It's another Par 5 with a dogleg right. The tee box is elevated and you essentially shooting down into a canyon. The left side is guarded by a 60 foot rock face that runs the entire length of the hole, so if you have a draw, your ball is going to kick back in (though the rocks will tear it up). To the right is a 15ft rock face, though there is a decent amount of trees that will challenge you to keep your fade under control. What's so awesome about this hole is really the view. It starts at the tee box and just keeps you in awe the entire ride to the green.I must also mention Hole #13 is of note as one of the better Par 4s in the area. It features a tiered fairway and a green surrounded by water and woods. You better be on your game to try and reach this one in 2.The Golf Club of Kansas also features a driving range that is open year round (due to heated booths), full instruction (which I haven't used), and putting and chipping practice greens (that also include practice bunkers to hit out of (something I don't see a lot of).For the frugal golfer like me The Golf Club of Kansas can be a bit pricey. I'd personally like to see dynamic tee times available, either through Teequest.com and/or GolfNow.com, or use the dynamic fee approach that Stone Canyon Golf Club uses. Since I can only play about once a week a membership at any course isn't really feasible for me (however I will note the membership rates here are pretty damn good and it's on my list when it does become feasible for me). My next challenge for this course is to get into a tournament there. I think it would be an absolute blast.I highly recommend this course to any golfer. I brought my dad here to play last year in the fall and he still talks about it to his friends back home. Hopefully I can make it out a few more times this year to play.

A poor course for the money. Greens are not manicured. Too much rough. Too many balls that should be found that were penalties. Not good! It was better before.

I thought this course was a lot of fun and was in great shape. Once the clubhouse is completed, seriously consider joining.

Literally the nicest course I've played, very well managed as it's worked on every morning, beautiful layout with challenges on every hole and green. I play here about 1-2 times a week and the course usually never plays the same. Usually never slow. Golf carts are very nice too and the employees love what they do. You can also play the range like golf shots on the course.

Hate to write a bad review but...Tried 7 different times and several ways (email/phone calls) to have someone contact me about booking an event. So, I had to cancel my membership.Wish it would have been a better experience.

the course itself is amazing but the people who we encountered at the course could have had a better attitude all around including members and staff. the staff was short with me and my group from the start and did not help answer our simple questions efficiently or respectfully. although the course is very beautiful and well maintained they need to step up their staff's attitudes ASAP.

Nice location. Looks to be in great shape as you drive in. That's it. After this it was all downhill. The staff was not friendly. Not attentive. Not sure who owns this course but they obviously don't know how to manage their labor costs. It does not rage 3 people to run the club house especially when the course is empty. You walk into the club house and there will be one that watches the TV and the other two sitting in the office. Golf now has a better deal than what the course website. Again who owns this place. Would you not want to to get a consistent loyal following? If so, the more people you direct to the your own golf site or to call the pro shop, the more likely you are to retain the consumer. They don't price match with golf now. Do we purchased at golf now. Now if we should come back I know where there is a better deal. However, being that there are so many other courses on golf now, I may actually see a better deal for snort course and go there!!! The layout of the course is ok. Not too many trees. Open course so the wind will come into play for long hitters. Greens are ok. One star because the service was crap. Course was more hyped than anything. I will not be back. For the price you pay here, I would rather play St Andrews or Sycamore Ridge where the greens are in great shape.

Wow! I have always heard about this course but have never played it until now. Course is in great shape, fairways were like carpet and greens were definitely quicker than I am used to playing! So much natural beauty here, with all the rock formations, water features, trees... quite stunning to be able to play golf here in the city on a place such as this. Will have to bring the family out next time, even have a miniature golf course for the kids while I attempt to play! Definitely will be back and was very surprised to have a Starter on the first hole, helped me find my way and which tees I should use, nice having 6 different tee-boxes to choose from! Thanks Canyon Farms!
