Cafe Sofrito

Café Sofrito is a walk-up window on Main St featuring South American and Caribbean dishes. The gentleman that welcomed me and explained the menu was a delight to have a conversation with. Not only did I learn a lot about about the menu, but he shared personal stories from his birth nation of Venezuela as I waited for my freshly prepared meal.I knew that I wanted to try my first Arepa, so I let Jose decide which of the 6 options I should. His favorite was Reina Pepiada; shredded chicken, avocado and mayo stuffed inside a split open patty of fried corn dough. The flavorful cold "chicken salad" complimenting the hot grilled pancake. A great choice. The $13 combo also came with a side of black beans, rice and fried plantains. Make sure you ask for a cup of the mango-habanero sauce if you dare. Potent and delicious for dipping or giving a kick to the rice and beans. Picnic tables are available in the back if you are not taking back to the office or house.Eager to try the Cuban or steak sandwich on the menu.

Fantastic food! Amazing empanadas! This place is a lovely walk up spot on Main Street. Authentic food, very good service. Something fresh and unique in midtown KC.
