Jocelyn R. "OK so I originally joined the free 21 day challenge and I have to admit that I was like "ugh there's a lot of high-fiving and cheery greetings here" which is not totally my thing BUT after joining and now working out there for a few months, I catch myself handing out high-fives and nodding at the other regulars. I joined for the classes and those have been AMAZING - great instructors, good participation level, lots of choices. The facility itself is brand spanking new so it's super nice and doesn't smell like a gym yet. Prices are reasonable and I didn't have to sign any contracts that had the words "my immortal soul" tucked away in them. If you're looking for a new gym, definitely give this place a try!"

Cindy F. "Another great Yelp event, as usual. The location is in a quiet business center, and the studio itself was very homey and relaxing. One of the cleanest studios I have ever been in. It was very nicely decorated, I loved all the buddhas. Colleen was an amazing yoga instructor - she was very thorough, and watched each person closely. She really made sure you felt comfortable, no matter your skill level. She used blocks, blankets, alternate poses, etc, to modify for each person. Tons of breath work. I agree with my fellow Yelpers - Colleen was very caring. I liked the tea lights and music, ambiance was relaxing. By and far the best yoga session I've ever had. She also does 2-hour thai massage sessions, and I will definitely be booking one of those. Shout out to our Yelp intern for the post-yoga noshes! Now hooked on Annie's fruit tape. :)"

I haven't felt lost or left out during the classes and every instructor has been amazing. I was looking for low impact workouts that meet me where I am and don't rely on flexibility, as that's a weakness of mine. I have felt safe with every exercise - no injury concerns. I purchased a Groupon and some businesses treat you as if you're not as valuable of a customer because of that; however, RY was extremely welcoming, sincere, thoughtful and friendly...all from the moment you walked through the door. The studio is clean and they offer a wide variety of classes at multiple time slots. Overall, the vibe was just what I needed/need. I've attended Radiant Gentle Hot, Mixed Level Flow and Vin/Yin with a few different instructors and each of their styles are different, but I appreciate and embrace each of their teaching styles and techniques. I also appreciate them subtly assisting your poses so you either get a deeper stretch or just to simply align your posture to better your practice."

They offer so many types of classes and a full range of times for those with busy and/or random schedules. The very first class I took was 3 weeks ago with Megan, and her R.I.P.P.E.D. workout kicked my ass but she knows how to keep pushing you without being pushy. I was SO SORE that next day, but I was excited to check out the different classes they had to offer and I lived to tell about it. I'm starting my 3rd week of workouts and I actually looking forward to sweating and working my ass off! It's also nice seeing that the instructors actually learn your name. I like that they offer evening classes as well as weekend. They also offer pay what you can. The studio is beautiful, calling to my heart with all the plants inside and out. The patio is so pretty, I just want to sip on coffee and hang out there. My first class was Hatha, it is small and personal and the instructor takes the time to make sure you are doing the poses correctly to maximize your experience. Hatha does require yoga experience, keep that in mind when signing up. The instructor and owner Maria makes it a point to know your name and remember you. If you forget or don't have yoga mat or props, those are available for free at the studio. I definitely recommend!"

Cindy F. "I saw they had $20 off your first session, and were open Sunday's, so I scheduled a 1 hour reiki session with David. I was having a lot of pain in my neck and feet. I was skeptical of just reiki relieving my pain, over doing a massage. I have had reiki incorporated during a massage, and had good results, so I was open minded. So glad I did. The studio was empty, and was raining outside, so very soothing. If the cigar shop next door would turn their TV down, or would be even better. David is very gifted. Reiki session you stay fully clothed, on the massage table, with a blanket over you. It started with a blessing, and David checked my chakras. He arranged crystals around my head and on my chakras. The energy transmitted from his hands put me in an extremely deep state of relaxation, even more so than massage. I almost fell asleep multiple times. I highly recommend Lotus. Next time I will do a 90 minute session. This might be so thing I do once a month or so. I raved so much about it, my hubby will be scheduling a massage session with David, and he has only had 1 massage ever. The studio is immaculately clean. They also do reflexology and have a yoga studio."

The child care is amazing, my 2 year old never wants to leave the play room. I go mid morning when it isn't so busy and never have a problem getting my workouts done on all the machines I want to use. I have used the tanning beds and hydro massage beds, 10/10. I had a personal training session with Derek and got to see all my body stats/measurements and we did a workout. He answered any questions I had and very very educated in all things fitness and nutrition. He made the work out fun and intense and tried to curate it to what exactly I was looking for. They offer continued training services, but don't pressure you into spending the money if it isn't what you want. I haven't tried it yet, but they offer many group exercise classes. Jen R. "I've been rocking my Mark Blanchard yoga dvds for prob about a year now, and when I found out I was heading to Overland Park for training, I jumped at the chance to try some classes here. First off, I have never taken an actual yoga class in my life. I way prefer the privacy of my own home, where I can wear my old sweats, stop and go as I please, and most importantly, there's no one there to laugh when I fall and make a huge ass out of myself ;)Anyways, I will totally admit that I have always been crazy intimidated when it comes to just walking into a yoga studio. I can never figure out what level class is best for me, I don't want to irritate anyone and be in the way of the pros, and I prefer to just disappear into the background when a move is beyond me - and def not be called out in front of everyone. Anyways, at this studio the classes are for all levels - so there was no need to play a guessing game trying to figure out which one would work for me. And Gretchen...man, she was cool. I felt totally comfortable w/ her - in fact, I told her right off the bat that I was worried my scoliosis was screwing w/ some of my poses. She even made sure during class to point out the poses that would be most affected by it, and made the necessary adjustments. During one of the classes I even had the opportunity to do some partner work, and with Gretchen's help tried some poses - like a handstand - that I doubt I would just try w/ anyone else. In the end, I got exactly what I came here for. I didn't need to worry about bringing a suitcase filled w/ props - I just came right from my hotel, grabbed a mat, and was ready to go. Everyone in the class was welcoming - I didn't feel like I was stepping on anyone's toes, and I truly felt all levels were welcome. I learned new things and gained the confidence that I was on the right path in terms of my practice - and I appreciated the positive feedback and adjustments Gretchen made to my poses. I was able to pick up a few tips and after being home for just a week, I've learned that a few minor adjustments can make a world of difference. So...I have a feeling that for the time being I'll still be a stay-at-home yogi, but next time I'm in the neighborhood I will definitely be back."

The class was a Community Yelp event spearheaded by Kieu, Yelp KC Community Coordinator.I've done yoga before and actually had a membership at a yoga studio in LA in the past, but after not doing it for 2 years, I was a little apprehensive to get back into it. Luckily, the instructor today was very chill and gave a class fitting to beginners and more geared for a relaxing time than an intense strength/endurance test. She was very clear with the instructions and with only 9 attendees there, she was able monitor us and made comments/tips to help us get the best out of the class. She was very personable, nice and had lovely stories to share. It was a very personalized class as opposed to feeling like she made it the same for every class. All the mats, blocks, straps, blankets, and pillow were available to use for class. Perfect for those who don't have all the equipment!Facility was clean and the bathroom was clean. The Yelp KC Community Coordinator, Kieu, provided healthy snacks and drinks after the class. Thanks for making this event possible! It was a donation yoga class, but I like how the instructor didn't hound us on giving a tip or donation. She just made it an option if we could, which was nice. I did end up tipping and luckily she took credit cards!"

You have to let go to true immerse and participate. They make that easy to do here. Judgement is not something that people participate in here. I felt very comfortable in the carpeted studio and was very impressed by the gonging during the Shavasana (corpse pose). Walk ins are $12 as of this writing. That is reasonable. If you need the expand your practice into a different realm everyone once in a while, Kundalini is a good choice. Or you may make this your mainstay and do other types of yoga as your diversity. Joi B. "I've taken classes with three different instructors now at Maya Yoga and I can safely say, I'm a fan!Housed in a building that was once part of Kansas City's film row, I had a good feeling as I walked over Joan Crawford's and Jean Harlow's stars on the sidewalk leading into the building. (both screen queens spent their formative years in KC... wow, I have a way of fitting that into many reviews, don't I?)The studio is on the second floor, down past the check-in desk and hallway where you'll find the bathrooms and an alkaline water system. The studio itself is lovely, with bamboo floors and all kinds of wall hangings and statues around the room with Ganesh and other Hindu deities, which automatically makes me feel happy. The room has lots of windows, which allows for natural light and they like to keep the temperature to 80 degrees. No, this is NOT hot yoga (not a fan, personally), but you will sweat. Personally, I do like having windows open, letting in fresh air and fans, but I think I'm in the minority as I haven't found any studios that have this kind of thing. Most classes are taught by Kathleen and Wade, the husband and wife team that own Maya Yoga and both are approachable, strong instructors that will push you as far as you need to be pushed, while not going too far. It's noted on the schedules which classes are more for beginning students, by the way, so take note of that if you are a beginner.Having fallen out of regular practice, I mixed it up a bit to get back into it. I've taken a combination of classes, although not those in the morning or evening (ashtanga) which are really for those who have some background in yoga. I don't love ashtanga, but I did take two intro classes with Wade and he really does a great job of easing you into this challenging practice, for many of us, would take years to be able to do a lot of the asanas to their fullest benefit. Keep in mind, yoga is a practice and it's not about who can do this or that pose or asana. It's hard for most Westerners, as most of us are looking to be "good" at it (myself not excluded). What I've always found interesting is that you can be an absolute beginner but able to do some challenging poses with ease, like from when I started yoga many years ago, I found ankle to knee pose to be a piece of cake while a good portion of seasoned practitioners struggle with this. Meanwhile, I've still yet to be able to put my hands flat the floor when doing a forward bend. Kathleen's Tuesday midday Vinyasa class is perfect and definitely challenges me (hello splits! Still can't do those, either), while keeping me in good practice for those poses that come easier (Yay, backbends!). Today we had a really fantastic sub named Gwen and I need to see if she teaches other classes, because she was a blast- really down to earth, really helpful, but again, it's not gentle yoga (which she teaches as well, to seniors. How awesome is that?!)I come from a Vinyasa and Kundalini practice and ideally my practice combines both. Maya doesn't offer Kundalini, so I'll probably be going elsewhere for that, but I am really happy that I found a yoga studio that I love for Vinyasa!"

Suzan H. "This is a great yoga studio! In addition to top-notch teachers who focus on alignment and healing, the atmosphere is friendly and caring. There is zero attitude. All are made to feel welcome and supported, both personally before and after classes, and on the mat with individualized instruction and modifications. The studio focuses on Iyengar Yoga, a type of classical yoga with a big focus on alignment of the body. What makes this unique is that there's a lot of individualized help using props and modifications so that you can do each pose in whatever way works best for you.Iyengar also uses a "rope wall" (a wall with loops of ropes suspended from it) to help support you in certain poses so you can get maximum benefit from them (like traction in a Downward Dog) and other stuff that kind of reminds me of Pilates or physical therapy. In each class, there are usually a few yoga teachers in training doing poses while taking notes, as well as people of all ages, physical abilities, and sizes. Often, there's somebody recovering from a sports injury or somebody working to relieve chronic pain. Each person is treated as an individual with respect, kindness, and expert help from the teachers. The classes are relaxed but focused, with some small talk and laughter-no stuffiness or show-off atmosphere here at all. The studio is clean and large, with a wall of high windows looking out into trees.Highly recommended!"

You take all of those hats off whether it be mom, dad, leader, boss....whatever it is you do out side of those doors, you focus on you for an hour. You leave feeling like you can concur anything because of what you just did in that room! The classes that I've been to the instructor is walking around and watching everyone's form. And also helping with modifications. But (in the classes that I have been to) there's plenty of people who know what they're doing for me to watch. There's a big locker room where you leave your stuff.
