"Been here a handful of times, most recently following the flow of people out of a concert from The Midland and into The Indie. It's a pretty typical downtown bar that has some things to like but otherwise falls in the generic category. One thing I noticed was following a Sturgill Simpson concert, they had Sturgill Simpson playing -- pretty cool for them to add that little touch. It's usually busy here and relatively small, you might expect to stand with your drink for a bit. Decent place that is neither high nor low for me."
"This an amazing venue!!! The staff at just incredible!!! We had our daughter's wedding here and the places is beautiful, the amenities are beyond expectation!!! Leah did an amazing job coordinating our function. Even was our bartender and he and his partner were very efficient. The DJ's did a nice job of getting people on the floor!!! Would recommend for any function, wedding, whatever. Thank you for helping make our event perfect!!!!"

"This was the most AMAZING venue ever!! The staff, the location, the amenities... simply perfect!! Without them, our daughter's wedding would not have been as amazing as it was. If you have not had an opportunity to take a look at The Dogwood Gardens, don't hesitate, just do it!"
"This is a great place. It's been a while, and we stayed in the smaller house not the main one. ( I'm not a fan of people so I didn't want to interact with Minnesotans or other rif-raff). The owner was very nice and accommodating...but I expect that from kansans. I'd stay there again...I'm not sure what the $10 golfer was ranting about but they must be Chicagoans!!"
"We had a beautiful summer wedding at Buffalo Lodge and Amy and her staff were so helpful and worked hard to ensure our special day was perfect. Their grounds and facilities are immaculate and we can't image our wedding taking place anywhere else. Thanks Amy and Mike!"
"Gorgeous one of a kind venue just outside of Kansas City! The bridal suite is so spacious and cute! The groom/grooms party gets his on cabin! Plenty of opportunities for beautiful pictures of your special day. I've heard they are building lodging for your wedding party/guests! Really can't ask for anything more! Holli and her staff take excellent care of you and your wedding party! Definitely a hidden gem!"
"Finally tried staying here for my bday wknd. It didn't disappoint. The attention to detail and cleanliness were noticeable and appreciated. The OCD in me really appreciated that even the tiny screws in the light switch face plates were all pointed the same way. I thought I was the only one who did this! I now know I am not alone. There is someone else out there with a tiny screw driver righting the wrongs of this world. Not all heroes wear capes.I would recommend not staying on the 2nd floor directly above the bar, especially while DJ Napoleon Dynamite is playing. (You would have to see him to understand). The rest of the noises were acceptable for any hotel. The couple next door must've gotten hungry late at night and decided to whip up some Kraft mac n cheese while playing hide and seek because she screamed at random times and A Lot! On the other side, someone else must've said a bad word or otherwise got in trouble because one of them got a well-deserved spanking. It must not have hurt like the ones I got as a kid because I'm pretty sure I heard the words "harder" at some point. Weird."
"I could have sworn, I posted my review of Serendipity Farm and Vine right after we visited, but alas I find it still in my reviews to complete and we have been here two times. The first time, we joined our neighbors for a sunny fall afternoon in November. We love these types of venues with various outdoor seating options, live music, drinks and snacks. This particular afternoon, the music was by Aaron Luccero. The staff was great in helping us learn about their wines, tasting and checking to see if we were doing ok. The place was nearly full this particular afternoon and we appreciated the attention. The concept of this location is fabulous! What a nice country setting. Both the indoors and outdoors provided great backdrops for hanging out and for pictures. I sent the pictures to my mom and she immediately wanted me to reserve one of the 'stalls' for an after Thanksgiving family gathering which I did. We reserved the Monarch 'stall' for our family event. We were larger than that space, so we also had the tall tables outside the stall. We pre-ordered the 'Signature Grazing Board' which is a beautiful display as well as enjoyable taste. As the rest of the family was new to visit Serendipity a couple of red and white wine flights were ordered along with a couple of bottles. For those who didn't drink wine, there were also ciders and beer. We really enjoyed our time. They do not allow dogs as they have their own dog and other live animals that roam the property and in the past there was an altercation. So, keeping the zen environment going, you cannot bring your pets. We own a dog and would have loved to bring him, but also are respectful dog owners and 100% respect their decision. Just enjoy your time with family, friends, co-workers without having to keep an eye on your pet.My rating is a 5+ Star for the overall experience: ambiance, live music, staffing, etc. Everyone's taste palettes are different so it's not fair to rate make the rating for Serendipity Farm and Vine strictly on the wine. We also visit and order wines form the Napa Valley region on a regular basis, so a rating compared to those isn't fair to Serendipity. This being said, we all agreed "Metamorphic Love" was a keeper. We will be back again either to reserve a 'stall' for our cul-de-sac gathering and for another sunny afternoon when those days are back. What a nice treat to have this kind of place to come"
"3.5 I'm giving this trail a round up to 4 stars because I am a sucker for a pretty view and this path gives you the best of both worlds: a view of the Missouri River on one side and a skyline view of Kansas City on the other. Also, I saw and heard a lot of beautiful birds who make their home in the preserved areas along the trail. As beautiful as it is along the river, it is fairly short depending on if you are a distance runner. The length of the paved trail along the river is 2-3 miles from end to end. Then you have to maneuver the streets downtown to continue on the trail. I am geographically challenged so I had to keep looking for the signs. As everyone points out, there are no restrooms. But you can get access to the restrooms and the City Market on Main Street if you gotta go."
"Lovely home for events. We saw a play here and it was fantastic! The historic mansion is in great shape and well kept. What a wonderful place for events."
"We came here for a special occasion date night, and it was just what I had hoped for. I absolutely love the quaint and warm ambience with the stone walls and paper lanterns inside. I look forward to coming back when it's warmer to sit on the cute outdoor patio. The menu brings something fresh that I haven't found elsewhere in Lawrence. Lots of shareables and appetizers that would be great for large groups to have with some creative cocktails, which they also have plenty of on their menu. I enjoyed the "sage advice," which was short and strong. The house hummus was the best I've ever had, and I was pleasantly surprised by how many pickled toppings it was served with. When we received our entrees I was a little worried that they would not be filling enough, but I was pleasantly surprised when I could almost not finish the shrimp mujadarra! I'm choosing not to detract a star for service, but it could have been better. Our server (tall guy with tattoos) was not the most attentive or friendly. But everything else was so good that I am still excited to come back. Btw: I highly recommend making a reservation, and I also recommend ordering several dishes to share or at least one appetizer before your entree."
"I am a wedding florist and have had the pleasure of working at the Grand Hall a handful of times over the last couple of years. The GH is hands down one of the most spectacular venues in KC! The venue and the staff are top notch! We hosted my daughter's wedding reception at the Grand Hall in 2018 and LOVED everything about it!"

Sleek. This was my first time at The Indie on Main and I can't think of a single bar in KC where I'd walk in and swear I was in a bar in Gramercy Park. They did an excellent job with the design of this place, from the honeycombesque liquor display (see my photo) to the long curvy bar to the lounges in front of the windows. Gramercy bars were never my scene, but I can appreciate good aesthetics when I see 'em.We came to the Indie to see our friends in a burlesque act (this is not a regular thing there, as there isn't a stage and the layout of the place isn't really conducive to live shows of any kind), otherwise I don't normally hang out in this area, especially on a weekend night. Crowd was kind of typical P&L which is definitely not my thing, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. The DJ was playing music excruciatingly loud in between acts, and really ruined what could have been a decent, chill vibe (this was the consensus of our group, not just my cranky self speaking). I can't stand house music, so we would have left if we weren't waiting to see more burlesque. Needless to say, we left right after that was over. I'd come back again, if in the area as the DJ wasn't the bar's fault (and I think they did tell him to lower it a bit at a certain point). The bartendress was nice, drinks were fairly priced. There's a cocktail list full of girly Gramercy drinks if you share the tastes of the Sex & The City gals (needless to say, I stuck to vodka sodas:)

The Dogwood garden is a beautiful and amazing venue. My sister's wedding was here and the Owners were Great and professional. They did an amazing job with coordinating and setting everything up and making sure everything was in place and running smoothly. I will definitely be having my daughter's sweet 16 birthday party here.

My husband, toddler son and I stayed in the Bunk House at the Clover Cliff Ranch for a long family wedding weekend. The Flint Hills are such a special place and the Clover Cliff matches the majestic and comforting vibe. The property is very well taken care of. I was so impressed by the windows all around the Bunk House that provide amazing views. I was really impressed by the quality of breakfast (better than I've experienced at any other B&B) and the professional level of hospitality. The staff really know how to make you feel welcome. I hope to return to the Clover Cliff when I can really relax, though I did enjoy taking advantage of the large bathtub in our house.

Near perfect. Housed in an old Pabst Blue Ribbon bottling factory. It maintains and honors its history, while urban chic is so overdone throughout the country, it belongs here, in places like this. The entire space is warm, dark and cozy, from the hallways to the rooms and even the factory like elevators. The rooms are as charming as the rest of the hotel. Bathrooms are large with walk-in showers featuring a shower valve on the opposite side of the shower head so you don't get wet when turning on the shower. The bathroom door is an industrial style barn door that slides instead of the traditional door. Room 438 was well equipped with king size bed, pillow menu, white comforter, decorative pillows, rocking mini bar that is see through from the top of the entertainment center, and unique leather do not disturb signs. The hotel has two bars you actually want to drink at! The popular rooftop bar, which actually closed due to extreme heat on our first day(who knew? A company that actually cares about its team members!). And a fantastic lobby bar with talented bar tenders, good drinks, pool table, shuffleboard and plenty of good people watching. There's also a small local art exhibit in the lobby. The staff was ridiculously friendly going out of there way to great us each time we arrived and wish us a good time on every exit. Free street parking was easy to come by for us mid summer. The location is fairly central, flush with many restaurants and only 15 minute walk to Union Station area.

FPO and I have been trying to do another winery field trip for a couple months now. We started out at another place about 16 minutes away (its name starts with the letter Bourg). So disappointing we left after less than half an hour and whipped out the trusty Yelp app to find someplace else. Lucky for us we found Serendipity. Located in Stilwell, KS it's a quaint, cute looking little place. Most of the outdoor seating was taken when we arrived, but that's okay. There is plenty of room inside. It's a converted stable and you can reserve the different "rooms" for small parties. Their food is pretty standard vineyard fare. We had their Mediterranean Dip. I tried a flight of their wines, FPO tried the whiskey flight. The service was great, the wines were too. We ended up buying winery swag and even a whole frozen pie that we're going to bake for Thanksgiving. I think next time we go we'll try the ice cream. It was a very nice afternoon at a quiet and friendly venue. Well worth the field trip.

"Lovely shop that is very large with a ton of pottery items to choose from!! They had a school fundraiser and walk-ins on the big side and had us in a separate little room. Their website also has fun events like sip 'n dip and teen night. This ginger bread house costed about $55 (paint, clay item, kiln firing and brushes/etc all included) and took me about 1.5 hours to paint. It was one of the more expensive items but I thought it was worth it!! They had some small items that were just $5 too! Fun for kids or kids-at-heart!"
"I really like staying in the Aloft by Marriott hotels, they are fun, eclectic atmosphere and the rooms are different, colorful and comfortable. This location is everything I mentioned above plus the personnel is super friendly and polite. The room is very modern in style and really clean. The TV is big and in the wall, it has the streaming software so you can watch YouTube, Max, Showtime and can use your account in Netflix. The bed is very comfortable and the sheets are nice and soft. The entrance lobby is really fun with a kind of Gothic and punk atmosphere. The board games and Pool table makes you want to stay and get a drink in the bar with your friends. The only con that I can see staying here is the cost of the parking, I think $ 24/ night is to steep."
"This review is strictly for the milkshakes. At first it felt very odd to go to a craft/D.I.Y. place for milkshakes but boy am I glad I D.I.D. The guy working there acted like it was perfectly normal to not partake in the craft side of the business which put us at ease. I ordered The Original (Oreo). Now it wasn't exactly like the picture online but close enough for me and I enjoyed it all the same. I believe it's worth the $14 and you get to take home the cup. We intentionally didn't eat before we came and I'm so glad- it will fill you up. Slightly random place for a fun drink but I recommend it- great milkshake and you can check out everything else they offer while you're sipping without the pressure."
"I live close to a pole dance gym. They have 3 classes a month. So I decided to try a class at Poleworx. I absolutely loved it! No, I couldn't quite do a fireman, but I'm almost there. The instructor, Marie, was patient and helpful. The classes are so much fun. There's available parking and the location isn't that far of a drive. I loved everything about it!"
"So many delicious local products...I try to go every week to keep my fridge stocked with all they have to offer. Had delicious cheese today and am cooking up some fresh House Chicken Chorizo. Love this spot!"
"This place is a hidden treasure! I will be having my ceremony and reception here. The owners are super nice and professional! I looked at another one of their locations but truly fell in love with the intimate feel at Brookside. The only downside is the have an agreement to contract a specific company to DJ and bartend your event. Otherwise his location is perfect for a wedding or reception for 100 or less people! I am so pleased with the service level from Heritage Event Spaces!Update after the wedding......If I were only rating Brookside Gardens they would get a 5 star rating!!! The owners are a awesome but they require you to use specific vendors such as Platinum KC which is a DJ service. I was not impressed by them at all and the songs I requested were not played, it put a damper on my reception and people complained all night about the poor selection being played. I was very disappointed by this but I had no other option because I was required to use Platinum because Brookside has a contract with this specific company."
"We went for live music on a Tuesday night. Very very small crowd. The music was exceptional, I felt awful for the amazing artist that no one really came out for him. The sound quality was great. Only one brave soul really took to the dance floor. There were a few couples that got out to dance. But not enough people dancing to make me feel comfortable getting out there. I only tried one drink and I can't remember the name. Definitely not strong. My drink at the Italian restaurant prior gave me a nice buzz and this drink fell short of adding to it. Staff is pretty great."
"My wife and I have been working with Blake Harris and The Haven Event Space team in booking an event for late 2021. Our experience thus far has been OUTSTANDING! Blake has gone above and beyond to accommodate any and all our questions, concerns, and plans! Knowing the complications that typically come with organizing a large event, we were guarded going in on the planning process. However, after a couple quick meetings with Blake and using his extremely helpful preferred contacts and vendors, we are well on our way to having a wonderful event! We are looking forward to our celebration, and are so excited to be holding it with The Haven!WE'RE SO EXCITED! Thank you, Blake and team, for all your help in getting our special day planned!"
"A very fun place to go with a group of friends, family or coworkers! I visited BRKTHROUGH twice: once with coworkers for team building and the second I won 4 passes on their Instagram holiday giveaways (hint: you should follow them on Instagram for future giveaways!!). I love how each room was different and you have to basically think outside of the box to solve it. I also liked how there's a leaderboard so we can track our score with other people that is playing that day. For each room there's a QR code you can use to scan for hints! They also offer food options and many selection of beers!"
"I arrived here to learn it's RESERVATION ONLY. I was turned away (also I wasn't dressed for fancy dinner; I get it).So that's why I'm not reviewing it, other than to suggest:Why not advertise that fact (reservations required) to avoid other curious potential customers driving here for nothing? Maybe also publish a dress code or other requirementsGood luck."
"About nine months ago we were entertained here. Typical Missouri wines. Nice atmosphere. Food was catered in. It's been remodeled since then. We rented it to host an open house celebrating our anniversary. Compared to the many places we checked out... Very reasonably priced and very responsive to our requests. We had a photographer and the folks here suggested some locations to shoot pictures among the vines. We brought in cake and punch. Our guests mostly hadn't been here before and they all liked the setting. There are a couple of room options depending on your needs. They are friendly in the wine tasting. My son is not big on wine... But now that he's legal, they took the time with him while he took notes. He ended up buying a couple bottles. Feel free to drop in enjoy some wine, enjoy the views. We'll be back."
"The Beck is a fantastic event space with even better people running it. Jill was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process. She was so helpful and accommodating, including going above and beyond when our caterer fell through. It is a perfect combination of a great facility and great people to work with. I would highly recommend the Beck Event Space."
"I was considering having my wedding reception at the Urban Event, but after meeting with the owners/coordinators, I knew I couldn't leave my big day in their hands. I was drawn to this space because of its charm and awesome view of downtown. I mean, it's absolutely beautiful. There's also a pretty sweet groom's suite for the guys (but nothing substantial for the ladies). When we met with the owners to view the space, they were both super frantic. Also, I'm almost certain they triple booked our appointment. There were couples everywhere and they were just standing around staring at us. It was so incredibly awkward. I asked them if we should come back another time. They said no, and the man kept saying, "I promise I'm not a rude man.". I don't believe that he is rude, but I do believe that he and his wife are highly disorganized. When we finally got to speak with the wife, she kept complaining that she hadn't eaten all day, and she felt sick. Because I felt so uncomfortable, I ended up asking her if there was anything I could do for her. Consumers should never feel this uncomfortable! I really hope this duo can get their stuff together, because this space has a lot of potential! In addition to this, it was really dirty. We noticed an embarrassing amount of dust in the vents, and you could tell they just don't take cleanliness seriously. I was really disappointed with the lack of attention to detail and the service we received, and I hope the husband-wife duo get their act together for the sake of this beautiful historic space!"
"Love love love!! I am VERY particular about my hair, lots of horror stories! I moved to KC almost 5 yrs ago and only got my hair done twice in the city, both times I was NOT happy with what I received. I have lots of thick, curly, mixed hair, and it's hard to find a stylist who knows how to work with curls, correctly. My stylist Dominique (a.k.a glam life) was my stylist I tried, my whole family goes to this studio and uses Jess and Karen as their stylist, and they love those ladies, so they suggested I tried them too. Dominique was above and beyond awesome! Loved her style, personality, her story, her humor, and of course her curly skills!! If you have curls and want to keep them beautiful, healthy, and horror story free, try her out, she's amazing! You can find her on facebook too at the glam life suite to book appts and see her portfolio too!"
"Faulkners Ranch is a family-friendly and fun-packed pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and corn maze. This ranch is located on a 25 acre farm in Kansas City (out near Lee'a Summit). Pumpkins, apple cider (spike it with their caramel vodka), donuts, friendly goats to feed and countless creative games and fall activities...you don't want to miss out on this farm in KC!"
"This little family farm is so cute. The staff was friendly and there is a small shop where you can buy locally made goods, already picked apples, pumpkins and even some honey and syrups. They also have apple picking, although we were a little late in the season. We still got a few and they were reasonably priced. The activities include a bounce pad, hayride, playground and animal feeding. They also have great snacks for purchase - mostly apple themed stuff and grilled hot dogs, chips, etc (nothing fancy, but there are several tables and room to spread out. (We opted for Mini Cow town donuts at the food truck!)Overall, the atmosphere was quaint and the price was right. We'll be back!"
"I recently went to a wedding at 8th & Main. The space is beautiful, but the layout is funky. There is the first room, the vault room. It just has a cool vault door. This room is on the smaller side. You could have a small ceremony or a few round tables in it. Then there are 2 small hallways on either side of the vault room that lead to the back room which is bigger. The hallways are kind of annoying. They have the men's restroom in 1 hallway and then on the other side, is the women's. It was annoying because it wasn't well marked and it was easy to forget which side was which. The back patio is nice. It's a decently sized patio. It has fake put-put golf grass. I can't decide how I feel about that. Overall I wasn't overly impressed with the space. I believe the bride said it was $4k to rent it on a Saturday, but you could choose your own vendors. Since the location is in tiny little Grandview and not KC, I think that seems a tad steep."
"It's such a great place to hold an event, it's hard to capture in words. The facility is great, with lots of cool artifacts from Dr. Dimond's collection. The Kiva is a fun place to have a meeting where people can relax away from their normal surroundings. The garden area is beautiful and a wonderful place for reflection."
"I thoroughly love the Merriam Community Center. From the moment you walk in, the front desk staff is friendly and helpful. I love their upper level track and the basketball court. Typically in my experience neither is too busy and there is a good amount of space, which makes for a calming experience to me. Their workout area is not extremely large, but it still has a lot to offer with its array of free weights, workout machines, treadmills, etc. One thing I enjoy while utilizing the track is checking out all of the events they offer that you can see advertised on their screens. Their pool area seems pretty great as well, though I haven't used it myself."
"Hillcrest is a golf course in transition, and little by little it seems to be turning itself around. I played this last year and it was in terrible shape. This year the course looks better managed, greens and tee boxes are in a lot better shape, and the experience was much better. The track has a lot of fine holes, mature trees put shot placement at a premium, but give opportunities for a few errant shots. Better bring your A game out of the shoot, as the first hole, is 235 yd par 3. What I ultimately see happening is, Cerner will buy the course in 3 years and make it into their company track, at that point it will become a stellar track that everyone in KC will want to play."
"My first time ever taking a class at The Culinary Center of KC and it did not disappoint! My best friend signed us up for an Italian Vegan class as a Christmas gift and we had a blast. Firstly, the space itself is so fun with the huge industrial kitchen in the back and the other stations along the walls. The staff were SO good and efficient in helping the head chef and us as we went through the menu. I particularly enjoyed how we got to get our hands dirty but also try a few dishes that we didn't have to make ourselves. It was a nice break from time to time and definitely left us feeling nice and full. In regard to the dishes, we started by being served a tuscan white bean soup that was very flavorful and delicious. We then prepped a vinegar cucumber/tomato/onion salad and then moved on to the pasta primavera. Making the pasta was quite fun. All we had to do was chop and saute the veggies, roll out the dough and cook it in the water. We were also served grilled polenta with a tomato sauce and the salad we made was really quite amazing! We were all surprised by how much we liked it for it having only three or four ingredients. The polenta was pretty flavorless, but another nice break and something we weren't as familiar with, so nice to learn something new. Ultimately our pasta was great. It was very filling, to the point where none of us felt 100% by the end because we ate so much! But very fresh and flavorful. The zucchini bread to finish was yummy but a bit gooey and not really in the good way. Flavors all there though! Loved the lemon glaze. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine which we accepted and then we paid the $35 corkage fee for a bottle we brought. The fee seems a little high in my opinion, but we sucked it up. I will definitely be coming back for another class! I loved how interactive they made it and our chef Bruce was great!"
"Wedding venues are intensely personal and have to fit the couples' needs, so any venue isn't for every one - that's true. The Vow Exchange though, is an awesome idea and probably perfect for a lot of different situations. We're not looking for a cavernous venue and the fact that The Vow Exchange holds no more than 28 guests (wedding party not included) is actually helpful. We're not feeling obligated to invite everyone we've ever met and actually have a reason why we can't. They have a several options ranging from just the space for an hour to the space, flowers, drinks, a photographer, and an officiant. Prices range from $200 to $1000. The interior is somewhat shabby chic with exposed brick and rough hewn beams, comfortable chairs and benches and wrought iron decor. There's a large overhead door that (I assume) can be opened if the weather permits. Our wedding is scheduled for May - we'll let you know how it goes and update this review then!"
"Attended a wedding and reception here. Wedding was very nice. Unfortunately the manager of the building was probably the rudest person ever. Was yelling at guests as well as members of wedding party. Guests were not allowed to use the freight elevator and over 200 people had to walk up 6 flights of stairs. Wait staff did not bus all night of the tables and when we asked for assistance, building manager turned his back on us. When we tried to talk to him, he actually pushed my wife. Fortunately for him she didn't punch him, but she came close! Will definitely be notifying owners of the building. Good venue once the manager is gone."
