"Roots opened this storefront in Westside about 6 months ago, and it's fun every time I go! They focus mainly on tropical plants, so they have a lot of really interesting stuff. Tbh I come here mostly for plant hats. They have adorable seasonal hats that you can put on your plants, and they're not cheap, but I can't resist. The plants are all super well cared for, but the plants here are a little more expensive than other local plant shops, I must say. They definitely have some of the most interesting and unique planters/pots in town from lots of local and non local artists. On Friday nights, they'll often have small events where they give out free alcohol and have some snacks for purchase, which is super fun. Good for a First Friday experience. They do classes and events too (like a terrarium workshop!) The staff is always super nice and helpful! Parking is sometimes a struggle in Westside, so you're mostly relying on side street parking. But worth it to make the journey to Roots! They also have a stall on the 3rd floor of Bella Patina, so definitely check that out on a First Friday in the West Bottoms!"
"Attended an event here and this place is absolutely stunning. Plus we love farm to table. Can't wait to go back and experience the magic again."
"We have been customers of Lawn-Corps since 2008 and until recently we had no problems at all. Our house was skipped last week, but they came back. This week our house was skipped, so I called mid-day and the person who answered the phone said she'd contact the driver. Who knows if she really did, but she said they were trying a new system and they'd be here later. They never picked up our yard waste. I called this morning and a very rude woman said we had not paid them, but if we did, they'd pick up our yard waste next Friday. There are several things that are wrong with this. We have been customers for 13 years at the same address, but that didn't seem to matter to her. Secondly, my husband has advanced stage COPD and congestive heart failure and is in the hospital often, so he must've missed the bill. No matter to them that because my husband is on 5 liters of oxygen 24/7 our grandsons came to put the yard waste out and we can't very well leave it curbside for a week, nor can we store it for a week. So, now my husband and I had a neighbor help us load the 6 bags of yard waste into our truck and my husband has driven it out to Belton where he'll drag his oxygen bottle and the hose to his nose to unload and empty the bags THEY should've picked up. UNBELIEVABLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! We paid them for this year, but will be looking for a different service."
"A little bit of everything for the yard, garden, and pots. Great plants with 2 year guarantee! A little pricey, but worth the money. Very helpful staff with solutions for common problems and good suggestions. Check them out."
"The first time I entered Cottin's, I did so with reluctance. I was concerned that as per usual, some older gent would look over my head to speak to my boyfriend about what he might be looking for today, making me feel invisible and like such a *girl.* Kind of like what happened to me when I used to go into certain chain electronics stores that have since gone out of business (yay!) in NYC.Not only did this not happen, I actually enjoyed my time in there the several times I've gone in. I kid you not! Now, I fully admit that I usually would only go into Cottin's because the K would be super enthusiastic about shopping in there and I can't say I share the same enthusiasm, but oh, OK, they have a lot of awesome garden stuff and hello, are those pink flamingoes?!?!There's a lot to love about Cottin's. They rent cotton candy (COTTIN Candy?!) and icee machines. They sell all kinds of tape. They sell a lot of different colored and sized novelty light bulbs. They sell old school Radio Flyer wagons. It feels like it could be 1950 in there, but with a 2010 sensibility. The staff, all young and friendly, rule the school. As Lydia A mentions below, they are part of what makes Cottin's such an enjoyable place to be.A "place to be"?! Yes! It's an experience! Even getting keys made is kinda fun (OK, well, that's an exaggeration. It is quick and painless, however!)OTOH, you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming into one of my most hated stores ever...HOME DEPOT. Blargh! Here's to the true mom & pop sensibility of Cottin's (check out their cute retro bumper stickers while you're there and slap one on your toolbox) with their fair prices, excellent customer service and the way they make you feel like anything is possible so I'm going to start building that garden shed I've always wanted...I JEST."
"Amazing space in the iron district for purchasing plants and plant accessories! Just a gorgeous shop! Has small and big plants, along with pots, moss balls, stickers, bags, all kinds of fun things."
"I needed pebbles for painting critters on rocks. I never intended to paint critters on rocks, and didn't get small rocks from my last visit at House of Rocks.I found Randy's Lakeview Nursery and Stone in Lee's Summit. It's a beautiful facility near Lake Jacomo, It is a brown wooden barn and cute. In the back there's piles of different rocks, different sizes. They allowed me to hand pick what I needed, and I paid for it at the cash register. They also have a plant area and beautiful metal work. Landscaping rocks are their specialty. They also deliver locally, which is good to know, not many places do. There's no where in Independence that does this sort of service and have landscaping rocks available. I selected Missouri River Pebbles and will return when I need more."
"Farrand Farms is cool. Reason: My son and I looked all over for a purple pepper plant. We went to Farrand Farms on Noland Road, and they had plenty of them.Their staff are knowledgeable and ready to help you with all your gardening questions. Year after year (unless I'm smart and buy perennials), they provide me with the healthiest plants on the planet. I don't have a large garden, but do like to plant a few plants for fun. They also were very helpful with taking care of the apple tree my son bought, and planted in the backyard. Did I know he was going to plant an apple tree? Uh..no...but I''m a tree hugger, and love the baby apple tree. With the help of the employees, I bought tree spikes for fertilizer, and organic insecticide for the pests. I can spend hours at Farrand farms, just looking at the plants. The green house smells so fresh and the plants are fascinating. They may cost a little more, but every plant I've bought, has lived, and thrived. I think that is from the original care of the plant. Besides the large greenhouse, they sell an array of bulbs, pots, trees, shrubs, and seeds that you can't even imagine. It's fun, if not educational, to take a trip to Farrand farms, just to see the plants."
"Part of easing into middle age is coming to love plant and garden stores. This one gets rave reviews from our neighbors, and we liked it well enough. To be frank, we need some more fall visits under our belt to get the full lay of the land. The service was friendly and helpful, and there is an indoor shop with garden accessories, a greenhouse and an outdoor plant section. There's actually an additional Soil Service across the street that is primarily a nursery. Our first visit was good, but the selection wasn't as robust as some others like Suburban Lawn & Garden and Family Tree Nursery. Specifically I was looking for some kind of natural mosquito treatment that wasn't borderline radioactive, but the only ones that were available were full of eco-destroying chemicals. We did come away with a few things, and saw on a flyer that they also do Christmas trees around the holidays, have a service that hangs lights, and handle tree disposal as well. Glad to find them, and we'll see what the fall harvest has to offer as we finally get around to dressing up the garden/landscaping a bit more in our new house."
"amazing place mark and maggie are so friendly smart and helpful. I come here for food and to experience nature whenever i can catch them open. i recommend"
"If you haven't been here you are missing out. So many things to look at. They carry a great selection of gift items and home decor. They also carry holiday selections along with their outdoor home and garden items. They have many cute lawn items available. Great staff!! Always friendly!"
"I don't do well with plants. The outside ones don't seem to like me. In my third attempt to landscape our front yard, I choose rocks. Crazy cool, big, flat, multicolored, river rocks. (At least that's what they look like to me.) At around .27 cents a pound I feel like I got a great deal. I got about 15 rocks and found THE BIG ONE! I didn't buy it yet but I can't stop thinking about it. They have all kinds of landscaping materials. Wood chips, rocks, plants (when in season), dirt, bricks, definitely things to make an awesome back (or front) yard. They used to have an outdoor kitchen that looked like it was out of a magazine. Now they have an amazing stone table that I'd love to snag. In the end I got a roll of material that covers your weeds and does not allow them to grow. (Yeah!) Then 3 different sizes of rocks including some pretty quartz chunks. I spent under $75 for the whole order. Everyone there is helpful and seem to be excited to know your plans and offer suggestions. I couldn't help but join in with the guy loading my rocks. Now to work on my landscaping skills."

Fantastic!! What a cute little store on a familiar corner. Great selection of unique plants at a wonderful value. A helpful employee willing to transplant your purchase into a pot for you and answer any questions you may have. Add in a rewards system and I'm all about this store. I always say, a bad day is made better with a new plant.

As a new resident in the area, Colonial Gardens has become my go-to for buying plants, tree planting services, and a place for me to unwind while enjoying live music. It is a beautiful oasis where you can roam around and discover a myriad of plants, wine, cheese, pottery, etc. They have a cafe, music and wine nights, workshops, a market with local foodstuffs, farm to table dinners, and so much more!

WOW, and WOW, our experience started with WOW and ended with WOW. From our first meeting with the sales team and landscaping designers to the end result, we now have the most fantastic yard in Kansas City; Rosehill crushed every detail. Rosehill and their team were a shining ray of sunshine every day during the process. They answered every question, responded to every text, and returned every call. If you need landscaping, save time and energy looking around, go directly to Rosehill.

This may be my favorite business in the entire city of Lawrence. It all boils down to really outstanding service. I can walk in that big chain hardware store in town (has three letters) and can't track someone down to save my life--which is why I stopped going there years ago. At Cottin's, you walk in the door and they'll ask you if you need help finding something. I usually do, so I'm grateful for the attention. They're very helpful and really know their business.Need something? This isn't a huge store, but they're happy to order it for you, and then they'll call you as soon as it's in. I'll do that for everything vs. going to *that chain which shall remain unnamed.* Since it's a family run business, they treat their customers like their neighbors (like good neighbors, make that). This is as good as a locally run business gets. They have and will continue to get all of my business. Now if we could just find someone in this town that could run a restaurant this well...

For a number of years we have trekked out to Randy's Lakeview for mulch, rock, etc. While not in our back yard, we always found what we needed and Randy's was always ready to deliver. This year we decided on a project that was a little bigger than previous years. After moving into a new house we got started on sprucing up a long ignored landscape. After some debate we decided to install a real wood burning fireplace on a new patio. After doing some research it became apparent that the fireplace look we wanted was available at Randy's at the best price around. We ordered the kit, which came in ahead of schedule, and was delivered by Randy's promptly. We ended up purchasing mulch, landscape stones, some plants, to use in our project. The folks at Randy's are knowledgeable and ready to help. Thanks. RES

Very first visit to Farrand Farms even though I have driven by many times. My husband has become very interested in gardening so even though it was December we thought we would check it out since they were open. They had fresh Christmas trees out front and some beautiful wreaths. I didnt check out the prices since that is not what we were they for but they were really big and green! Their green house was large and totally filled with poinsettias. Absolutely gorgeous array of colors and sizes and cost. I did buy a "single" red poinsettia and got a lesson on how to water it to keep it alive. Didnt know they dont like to have their roots wet (or "feet" as she called them). Needless to say, my beautiful plant is still alive and well on my dining room table and we are well into January. They had a wood stove going, a cat in greenhouse lounging -it was very homey.I'm excited to check out this nursery in spring!

"I love this place!! One stop shopping for all your autumnal and holiday needs:-beautiful pumpkins (prized in 3 or 4 categories according to size... you can get a decent one for 6 bucks and a monster-sized pumpkin for 12 bucks)-pie pumpkins for 1.99!-all sizes/shapes of ghords (small ones start at about a dollar)-decorative hay bales and corn stalks-*extremely* friendly and helpful staff (they'll load your hundred pounds of pumpkins in your car, even!)I don't want to sound like a party pooper but I'm a bit over the whole "go to the farm" experience that seems to be rather pricey, even to a New Yorker like me. This goes for Christmas trees, too. When I think of the size tree I could get at a corner lot in Brooklyn for the price they are selling Charlie Brownesque trees at in these places, well... yeah, I get cynical. Don't get me wrong. I want to support the local farm as much as the next person but at a family-owned nursery like this one, you are coming as close as you can. I mean, I'll do what it takes to avoid buying this stuff at Home Depot (probably because I avoid HD at all cost). Anyway, say you're short on time and don't want to drive to a farm, nor o you have time for the whole experience involved... Thank you for being just a couple blocks away, Sunshine Flowers and for having such fantastic staff, quality items and prices."
"Such a lovely place! Great plant selection as well as pots and clothes and knick-knacks and such. And the staff is always super helpful and friendly. Hit this spot up and support a local business!"
"We had so much fun! And I wish I had taken more pics of their actual tree farm area but it was a rainy, muddy day and I was chasing two toddlers, lol. However, their customer service is amazing! They have pre cut trees in the front of the farm, closer to the house. If you're going down into the farm because you want the experience of cutting down your own tree, make sure to bring your own saw! The farm area is a pretty big and open field with lots of spaced out trees. It wasn't overwhelming at all, and they had lots of different sizes. When you go in to pay they have complimentary hot cocoa and hot cider, as well as wreaths to purchase if you want."
"This place should probably be called Rock World instead. There's only so many choices of dirt.....but who knew there were this many selections of landscape rock. I'm not sure what the going rate of landscape rock is or delivery fees, but I thought this place was reasonable and convenient. Same day delivery in some cases."
"I went to the tree farm/nursery location and was surprised to see such a large variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. The staff was very helpful and loaded my items into my car for me. Will be going back again when the weather warms up!"
"It remains to be seen if we can keep this little tree alive and take care of it appropriately, BUT our experience in buying it was excellent. The owner of this store definitely seems to know his stuff and was patient with all of our dumb questions. Easy to get to, prices seem appropriate (I have no clue on this, but you can buy a smaller one under $100, which seems like a great gift price point?), atmosphere was pleasant, etc. I would definitely return to buy another in the future!"
"I wasn't impressed. Plants were not in great condition. Facility is small without a lot to choose from. Prices were okay."
"I recently ordered three daylilies from Reblooming Beauties, 2-Rosy Returns and 1-Stella Supreme. I have both of these daylilies in my garden already and wanted to add more.Shipping was fast and when I received my package, I was shocked at how big the plants were. One of the Rosy Returns in particular is enormous. The picture doesn't do it justice! I can't wait to get these in the ground.."
"Paradise is a slice of southern California in the Crossroads District of downtown KC. We stumbled upon it while walking around and were drawn in by their awesome display of cacti, succulents and tropical plants. Inside we were greeted by a warehouse full of plants to buy, from small aloes all the way to big tropical trees. The shop is expertly curated with lots to choose from, along with services like "plant doctor," gardening accoutrement, and branded merchandise. We really enjoyed our visit and picked up a plant for the winter. The owner was super friendly too. We'll be back!"
"In order to appreciate this place you need to be of a certain age. You know the age where you kind of like doing yard work? Yeah, that one. I am in my first house and I'm in a phase where I really enjoy knocking all this stuff out. Lawn projects, landscaping, you name it. So when a beautiful, crisp fall afternoon lined up on a Saturday, my wife and I wound up here. We grabbed pumpkins, cool weather grass seed, boxwood, hydrangeas, straw mulch, and pea gravel for our new fire pit. The staff was helpful, especially when I had no earthly idea how many bags of pea gravel we'd need for our 10 foot firepit. They have charts and helped me nail it down.To top it off, anytime you order something big, you can drive your car over to that exact area and the crew will help you load everything in. We dropped some coin here, but I think it will all end up being worth it. It's a good spot in a convenient enough location that I recommend checking out."
"Their plants are beautiful and healthy. The gift shop has so many cute and adorable items for anyone who gardens, enjoys birds or nature. I could spend a day looking at all the lovely items and plants they have. There is also an assortment of nice birdbaths outside. Plants are not cheap, but they put a lot of time and care into providing quality offerings. If you are looking for something unique, they probably have it!"
"So glad there's another plant store in River Market outside of City Market, even though it's dangerous for my wallet! This is the smallest Roots location, but it's still packed to the brim with plants! I love that they always have a table with pet-safe plants to make it easy to keep your animals safe if they mess with plants. The staff is always super helpful and informative, and they will repot your plant for free if you buy a planter and a plant! My favorite part about roots is the little tchotchkes they have for your plants - tiny hats, tiny people, tiny mushrooms! So whimsical. I will say Roots is a bit more expensive than other plant stores in KC, but the plants are always so healthy and well taken care of.Located right on the streetcar route mere steps from the River Market West stop! There is some pie angle parking out front too."
"Oprah would ask "what do you know for sure?" and I would reply "Kansas City has some of the finest florist around and Beco Flowers in one of the reasons why!". Ok ok, I hope I would have a better answer if the Big O ever personally asked me that question, but for the sake of this review, that is my answer. I have seen several of their arrangements sent to friends or co-workers in the past and have always been in awe of the style and beauty of their work. I find it extremely important to utilize the talent of some of our best florists in town when sending an arrangement to a loved one. There is artistic skill and quality of work (and product) that stands above the average tele-floral or supermarket florist that I think is worth the price that you pay. I have also walked by Beco's storefront on many a First Fridays and have always loved looking through the windows into their lovely showroom floor. When the occasion called for me to order an arrangement recently, I was happy to give them a try. I was thrilled to walk through the doors to find two big hairy lovers walking the floor and greeting me. No, not the sales associate but two big o dogs, I'm a sucker for dogs in the work place so that was a big bonus for me. The showroom floor isn't packed with much retail merchandise, but is just a nice visual display room that doubles as a small art gallery. Really nice touch since they are in the Crossroads. They pulled my arrangement up to the counter and it was beautiful, appropriate and worth every penny. I look forward to using them in the future and encourage anyone looking for a top notch florist for any given occasion, to give Beco Flowers a try."
"Would love to give this business a good review but I can't even get the sales rep to call me back so they're getting zero stars."
"PIne's is a long-time Lawrence institution that precedes Yelp by decades. Want to impress your friends with great cooking? Start here and buy the basil, tomatoes, peppers, yadda-yadda and grow it yourself. It's all about the ingredients, you know that, and Pine's is my provider. So, if you don't dig lots of fine green things to eat, flowers, plants, etc., I'm sorry, we can't be friends.Long live Pines, one of the great places in Lawrence.P.S. they have a cool adopted cat that likes to park in the window. Be sure to stop by for a free ear scratch (the cat, not you) on the way out."
"Cute store in Zona Rosa with friendly service. Array of plants to choose from with instructions on how to plant/ maintain and where to plant ( indoor/ outdoor). Also like the options for pet friendly plants. Cute planting merch to include little cactus hats and pots."
"We were visiting from out of town and stumbled upon Verdant. It's a super cute plant shop! Both live and dried plants and flowers are available. They also have cards, soy candles, pots, and such. I got a postcard and they provided stamps! Service was very friendly!"
"Psst...want some beautiful mums for a great price? This is your farm. I bought HUGE mums in 12-inch pots for $19.99 each and they are stunning. They are way nicer than the plants I usually get at the warehouse clubs and they are sold by the nicest farmer. You'll find rows and rows of different varieties, sizes, and colors. My daughter and I have plans to go back after Thanksgiving because they also have a greenhouse full of poinsettias. The Flower Farm has great plants, and exceptional prices, and is a lovely 45-minute jaunt from my home in KC."
"I love these plants! I can't keep anything in our offices. these guys brought in plants and they keep them looking great. The tech is here every week rain or shine. 5 Stars!!"
"I'm very satisfied with the bouquet I purchased from Verdant for my wife's birthday. From the pictures they had available on their website, I knew exactly what to expect. The final product was amazing. My wife loved them.I called on the day my delivery was scheduled to confirm my order. The individuals I spoke to were very helpful and my order was delivered with no issues."
"Suburban Lawn & Garden is a KC icon when it comes to gardening in the metro. There are a few locations in the area, but this one to my knowledge, is the biggest. When I come here it's a bit of an adventure since it's so far south, but I usually enjoy perusing the aisles of hanging planters, succulents, and flowers. Outside you'll find trees, larger shrubs, and things like rocks, pavers, and cement statues for your garden. Overall, I enjoy visiting this location and I'm not sure why the star rating is so low. My only critique is that I do find it to be a bit on the pricey side, though I do think you sometimes get what you pay for. I've purchased trees, vegetable plants, flowers, succulents, etc. from Suburban and overall had good luck with them."
"Yo! What a great place. They have quality trees and thus far, the only place that beats them out in my opinion are Hudson Valley, NY farms.....and those are famous! What i mean is, these trees look great! Plenty to choose from (at least the first day they opened) and it was an easy selection process. My wife and I had a great time and the people working the farm are supper cordial."
"This place is hard to find because it's behind Tomohawk animal clinic, south of 75th Street. (sometimes they put balloons out front) Staff is attentive and friendly, the day I was there they had Impatience and Begonias on sale. They also sell these cute bronze statues designed to hold your plants. -Very nice but at $300 a piece I won't be adding one to my garden any time soon"
