Burek & Cake

The Burek is very authentic. Last time I had Burek like this was in Croatia! The Burek comes with either potato, meat, cheese, or cheese and spinach. You can see the staff making fresh Burek right in front of you. It's a small cozy bakery worth a visit!

What a hidden gem of a sweet place! My hubby surprised me by stopping here when we were running errands because he knows how much I love baked goods and desserts. I kind of got more than I should have, but I couldn't stop myself. Everything in the bakery cases looked amazing. I wish we hadn't just eaten lunch so I could have chosen a savory item. Next time, I'm eating lunch here!I loved the lady finger like cake soaked in sweetness with coconut sprinkled on top. It was the best. But then the pavlova roll was incredible. I've already decided that for my birthday cake this year, I want pavlova from here. Also, the baklava cheesecake was scrumptious. You can't go wrong selecting anything here.All of the items were made from scratch. They were sweet, but not overly so. That's what I loved most about everything I ate. I didn't get a gut ache from the sugar. It was very well balanced. Go here and support this hard working baker! Her food is amazing. And I have to say it is very, very affordable especially for the high quality! I'll definitely be back.

Absolutely treasure if a small bakery serving Mediterranean and mid eastern delicacies. Please, please look for this place. The people are lovely and the patisserie is delicious.

I had been wanting to check out this place for a while, and when I happened to be nearby just a few days before a good friend's birthday, it seemed like fate. Everyone was friendly and the gal helping me behind the counter was great. I got a little of everything for my friend, and some baklava for me. I got both a traditional baklava and a coconut one. Definitely some of the best baklava I've had in a LONG time. Very flavorful, delicate and crunchy while oozing honey, and not dry at all. The biggest surprise was the coconut baklava- I think it's hands down my new favorite!

What a cute little gem of a place! Super nice, clean place, best for pickup only. Bureks are perfectly baked, super thin dough, and so very delicious. We tried burek with meat, cheese and the maslenica (butter and little bit of cheese). We enjoyed them all. Very comparable to what you would get in Bosnia. The cakes are amazing. Flavorful yet not very sweet! We really enjoyed the Rafaelo cake, pistachio baklava, princess krofne! It was all so very delicious! The owner was the kindest person, very helpful in our decision making process. Highly recommend!!!!

According to my Yelp desk calendar; today 10/14/23 is National Dessert Day, so I checked my Bookmarks and headed over to Burek and Cake, a Bosnian Bakery that has been on my to do list for a few months.Burek and Cake is in a tiny building in a remote section of Kansas City North a few blocks from the small village of Avondale; definitely out of way and secluded. My wait behind 3 customers was considerable because each person was asking questions of the multiple products and raking up sizable orders. The most annoying thing was a customer walking away with all 8 hot Bureks in the display case. When my time came, I ordered 7 different sweets for a $13 tab. I was told that more Bureks would be out of the oven in 8 minutes, so I took some time to shop at the European grocery store next door. When I returned the cheese filled Bureks were coming out of the oven. I devoured it as soon as I returned to my vehicle - a crisp yet flaky texture - pretzel like, yet not doughy. Wonderful. I'd love to return and try the meat filled ones. The sweet pastries I have been sampling throughout the day have all been excellent. With the Cheesecake Baklava and the Hermasice being the standouts. The Bosnian owner/chef is very kind and the counter lady was very helpful. The Burek was $5 and sweets were $1 - $4 each. Very eager for a return.

A quaint little bakery hidden next to the European store. Friendly staff. Sweet and savory delectables.

Open Thurs-Sun from 11am- 3pm. Went for the first time today, picked out 4 items to take home. So delicious! Honey cake, tiramisu, a strawberry walnut and more delicious cake and a fruit tart. Highly recommend- affordable and delicious!!!
