This organic farmers' market has shifted locations during Covid, just up the street in a church parking lot. In my opinion, this temporary location is even better than the original as it's very easy to access and right along the Trolley Trail. You'll find a lot of summer staples here, mostly veggies when we went like: tomatoes, garlic, sprouts, garlic, honey, jams, and green beans. A lot of the vendors have the same things, which is fair because it's what grows in season. All of it is a little pricey, but supports local farmers which is worth it.In normal times, I prefer the OP market because that market has SO many things, including food trucks, coffee, breads, meat, etc. This one is much more sparse, and when my hangry toddler needed food we had to convince her of the deliciousness of broccoli sprouts (kinda worked, by the way). I've seen some select weekends jogging by that there are acai bowls and other goodies, but we missed out on our latest visit. Either way, a nice little market to visit on Saturdays in Brookside!

Just want to update my review this is just a superb Farmers market I'm surprised more people don't shop there the fresh vegetables, salads, breads that you can get there are fantastic and there's a great local honey vendor. A particularly like two birds and tabletop lettuce venders. I absolutely won't get my fresh eggs from anywhere else ever again.

I am a big farmers market fan. If I can do all of my grocery shopping there, I will. We live in river market so we are in walking distance to the massive city market. We choose to drive to Brookside Farmers' Market instead. It is an all organic farmers market. It is not huge by any means, but mostly has the same vendors week to week. You can get plants, compost, sprouts, greens, veggies, jarred goods, flowers, pottery, wooden spoons and more. Parking is very easy (if you come early) you can park in the school lot next to the market or any of the street parking. Not all vendors are able to accept credit card so you can either get tokens that don't expire at the entrance or there is a money machine about one block down. If you are into organic food, this will save you tons of money on your Whole Foods trip!!!!

I have to say, it has been a long time since I have seen that much picture perfect produce in one spot and I lived next to the City Market for 10 years. The herbs, the meat, the produce, the cheese....it was like a set from a movie scene. The downside would be some rather high prices, but when you think about the fact that the person taking your money also cultivated and produced every item in your bag.....well, isn't that why you came?Loved my Korean garlic, long beans, cherry tomatoes and basil!

This market outranks the Rivermarket in my opinion, but it all depends on your shopping style and goals. The Brookside Farmers' Market is an all organic market with local vendors. There are usually 8-10 farmers represented, 2 bakeries (Heirloom and Ibis), a coffee man, an ice cream maker, and a meat vendor. If you're savvy, you could do most of your grocery shopping here for the week. Most of the produce is vegetable heavy - there aren't the peach growers you'll find in abundance at the Rivermarket. However, you will find that the vegetables are of great quality and variety - lots of heirloom tomatoes, garlic scapes (had never tried these until this market), broccoli rabe, every type of potato you could ask for, pumpkins/squash, and more! For fruit, you'll mostly find berries - strawberries, blackberries, mulberries, etc and the occasional pear. It's usually easy to park here (relative to other markets) since there are several lots across the way, and street parking all around. If you need a market to get in and out of quick, this is probably it. However, if you also want to spend time talking to your local farmers and asking questions, that's cool too. It's not so busy where you can't take your time and leisurely walk about to see what your options are. You won't feel rushed, and you won't be bumping elbows with everyone in the attempt to purchase your food. There's usually some type of live music playing, so sit with your morning cup of coffee and enjoy it!

In reviewing the Brookside Farmers' Market, I'm coming from the perspective of a River Market resident and regular patron of the City Market. Obviously there are major differences between these different markets, but even though I don't think I've found a replacement for my current spot, I found plenty that I liked about the Brookside Farmers' Market. It's funny, because the things I'll say that I like about BFM are completely contrary to what I like about CM. I like that it's small and intimate. I would guess the number of vendors to be around 20, with a healthy mix of produce and plants, with a couple of meat providers thrown in for good measure. Plus, they had a woman selling just ridiculously good ice cream, which is always a winner in my book. There aren't a ton of vendors, but you can find what you need, and it's in good quality and affordable. I think the key difference between this and City Market is that in Brookside, people come in with a mission, get what they want and leave, which to me seems comparable to fighting people trying to take photos to produce and kids trying to get balloon animals. While I love a crowd, sometimes it's just a relief to not deal with huge masses of tourists. Brookside Farmer's Market does a good job of catering to that. This is a place more for people who love to eat fresh food, as opposed to just looking at it.

Plants and veggies and music, oh my!This is a great market in the Brookside neighborhood. We try to stop in on Saturday mornings- but the great thing is that they are open until 1 pm, so you don't have to worry about getting there. We usually score a parking spot right on the street, and the market is easily walkable in a few minutes. The sellers are really friendly, and most weeks there is a band playing live music. One can buy coffee (beans or brewed) and snacks, so breakfast is possible while shopping. We've also acquired soap and plants here, making for a wide selection. I love talking to my farmer, and get giddy at the thought of high quality, organic, local produce that I can purchase right from the farmer, so this is really my kind of market.

I love this place. To be fair, I've not been often because I do not live in the neighborhood (city, state, region). BUT....I so so so long to live in the neighborhood. I coveted this neighborhood when I moved to KC after college. Each time I return, I come to this 'hood. I come to the art fair. I come to the farmer's market. I eat at the restaurants. I drink coffee here (and Crestwood, which is also just lovely). Essentially, I come to pretend that I live here, hoping it will move from long-felt desire to oh-my-god-reality.But I digress. There are many farmer's markets to choose from, and honestly, I love many of them. I live in San Francisco, where the Ferry Building farmer's market is featured in magazines and television shows. It is amazing, true. But the Brookside market is also amazing. This market just has a great feel to it. I see people catching up with neighbors, kids playing together, sellers who KNOW their product, taking the time to talk to the actual people who will eat their labor of love. I see a passion for quality....a passion for community....a passion for family and friends....and I see a warmth that is not duplicated at larger, full-service grocers. Clearly you have to still go to those, but this market delivers a slice of humanity into the lives of those people who walk out of their homes...wander down the street....and pick up veggies, meats and cheeses to feed their loved ones.Great, great place! Now, if you want to sell me your home....I'm thin on down payment but exceedingly high on FICO!! (Oh yes, I need a job back in KC too! Anyone? Anyone?) Then...I'll see you at the market.

We really enjoyed the morning at the market. We got fresh produce, which we used to make a salad. The microgreens and homemade ranch we bought were amazing! I can't wait to try my fresh beets that I pickled and the creamed honey we grabbed. We might be regulars after trying it out today!
