We played Y2K, which had an AMAZING theme- I loved the 90's throwback vibe! Wish the experience could have been a tad more linear, as there's a massive puzzle toward the end to solve, yet we didn't realize that we needed to solve another puzzle first, and we wasted probably 20 minutes on it... Ouch.We also played Civil War, which was glorious- one of the best rooms I've ever played. The interactive nature of the puzzles was exciting, and the set and sound effects were terrific. I also think it's one of the funniest/best pre-game videos I've ever seen. Our game masters were very attentive.

My cousin and I love escape rooms. We've done quite a few at this point. We checked out breakout KC and had an AMAZING time. Quality of the room was top notch and our game master Sydney w. Was INCREDIBLE. She was so friendly and knew exactly when to help us and when to let us figure things out. What an incredible time! Highly recommend!!!

5/5 stars. This pace was great! The location is perfect for shopping and grabbing dinner. The actual Break out is even better. The staff are really nice and helpful. They thoroughly explain your task and build from what you learned online. Our escape room was AMAZING! Completed the Y2K just in the Nic' of time. This room was filled with 90s / 00s nostalgia bliss! From simple reminders of yesterday to embarrassing moments. Thanks for a great time! See you soon BreakOut KC

I wanted to try and book a team bonding experience for my team. I called to ask about group numbers and when I asked why only 8 per group the lady laughed and was extremely rude. If she would have provided better customer service maybe we could have figured out a solution. I will never try an escape room here. I read the reviews and sounded like it was a great place... but she ruined it for me.

The manager was very rude and disrespectful. We were asked to leave early after spending $200. I will never go back. The manager just wanted to go home early so she made up excuses to kick us out early. She was rude before we ever even started the escape room because we look younger then 30.

Wanted to spend the day up here doing a couple rooms. Let me start this by saying I've been doing escape rooms for a long time. I know quality. Breakout KC is not quality. We drove 2.5 hours to make it. 3 of us booked National Security and Civil War. Their policy online says when you book, your card will not be charged. After we did National Security, we were thoroughly unimpressed. I had to crawl through a tunnel and there was nothing big and glaring warning for that when I booked it. I'm 6'2"...that wasn't fun. Our biggest problem was the quality of National Security. It was absolutely boring and ranks in my top 5 most boring escape rooms and I've done hundreds. The puzzles were extremely easy and the sound wasn't working on a tv. The whole group could only focus on one puzzle at a time due to how the room is built. For the broken TV we were told to "jiggle the cable". Sorry, but I'm not a fan of doing escape rooms that make you ask for a hint for technical difficulties. Anyway, the big problem is that I tried to cancel the next room we had booked which started an hour after our first one, (Civil War). One friend of mine can't do tunnels or stairs and I was told Civil War has both AND we just weren't impressed by the quality of National Security so we wanted to leave. Apparently their policy is "that's too bad" when it comes to cancelling even though they never charged my card. I kind of understand this policy because we took the spot and nobody else could book it, so they don't want to lose the money. I spoke to the manager Saul on an employee's phone who told me he was going to call his manager to try and cancel. I told him I would wait in the lobby until he heard back. He finally arrived in the store after half an hour of waiting. He told me they were absolutely going to charge my card BUT he would give me a discount. He charged us each $37 instead of $50 and we had no choice but to do the room. The Civil War room was even worse than the first one. Thank goodness we had someone that was not 6'2" like me and my other friend and he could fit in the mandatory tunnel. He spent almost the entire hour hunched over in this tunnel trying to communicate different clues to us and he's 5'2" and an escape room newbie. He missed all sorts of clues in the tunnel because he didn't look around. But the biggest problem with both of these rooms was at least 40% of the puzzles were impossible to figure out without getting a hint. For example, in Civil War, there is a very hidden wood slat that you had to push on to open. However there was absolutely no way of knowing you had to push on it. No prior puzzle pointed towards that one so we got a hint telling us to push on it. Just ludicrous. The puzzle construction is terrible. I was going to give a one star but because of the discount and the manager trying to accommodate I'll upgrade to 2 stars. I highly recommend going to Tick Tock Escape Room. We went there for the first time this same night and the puzzles were well constructed, the staff was energetic and happy to see us and the theatrical elements of the room were beautiful and really put you in the environment. We did the Pyramid Room. Avoid Breakout if you can help it. $50 is a ludicrous price to pay for the quality you will receive.

My husband and 12-year old twins so enjoyed the Civil War Room. Great family bonding. Our room game guide, Aly, was such a great cheerleader and guide to us. We have found a perfect gift for Christmas and birthdays. Experience over stuff!
