Black Stag Brewery & Pub

Ok. I have not been here in years and we went last night w 10 people. In the past I have not been impressed and read some of the negative reviews but last night was great. Service was excellent, beer was good and everyone enjoyed their meal and live music! Maybe it is hit or miss here but if they continued to do what they did last night I would come back for sure. Love the live music and wish more places downtown did that during dinner time. The only dig i have is my chicken schnitzel was fried a little long and came out dark or they needed ti change the oil. Still tasty w bernaise sauce or some type of sauce. Do not know why it is not busier but hope they pick up as it is a nice place.

This is purely a beer review. We did not try the food. We were road tripping to New Mexico and decided to make some stops in Kansas along the way. After having a drink at their oldest brewery, we decided to pop over here for another and we were not disappointed!We ordered the Queen Anne's Porter and Alchemy Vanilla Coffee Porter. Queen Anne's was almost like a chocolate covered cherry. It was super rich and had a great depth of flavor! My partner thoroughly enjoyed the Coffee Porter, which was also very full bodied. Soul warming drinks on a not so warm day.We sat at the bar and the service was friendly. The bar tender was chatting with a few regulars. Plenty of angled street parking all along the strip. Great touristy area to walk around, shop, drink, and eat.

I came here on a weekend vacation and the menu looked delicious when I looked online before going in. We went inside and ordered drinks and the brat pretzel appetizer, which was delicious! When it came time to order food, they were out of the two items that half our party wanted for dinner. We didn't understand how a place would be out of their main courses for a late lunch, so we ended up leaving. Pretty disappointed because of this.

This is a nice local bar and restaurant. We go in around once per week. The food is good and the beer selection is large. One of my favorite things about this place is I can get a flight of beer, then I can taste a bit of everything, then I chose my pint. I like sours and light or wheat beer and my husband likes dark beer which they have a substantial offering of both. Today our favorites were coconut dark beer and Oktoberfest. We've eaten almost everything on the menu and you really can't go wrong. We had a pasta and veggie dish one time that was meh. The restaurant is large with tables, a lounge area, fireplace, games and outside patio....room for everyone!!! (Not to crowded). We usually sit at the bar and our bartenders are the best. Go check it out it's great!!!

I'm surprised to see such low reviews for this place. Super cute interior. Welcoming staff. My bartender Amy was extremely attentive, quick on refills and checking on me periodically. I waited til 1PM on Sunday to be able to try their prime rib Sunday special. It was worth the wait. Super delicious. It was over cooked from what I asked, but all in all still very good and a hearty portion.

stopped for lunch - out of iced tea! ordered street tacos - they come with tortilla chips, but they don't have salsa! WHAT?? and the waiter - he'd rather be somewhere else.but my burger was delicious!

The Roserita was yummmy, tart, and delicious! Great, dog friendly patio. Food looked delicious!

We decided to do a Saturday in Lawrence and chose Black Stag for lunch. Oops! Our mistake! It was borderline sad. There was an away basketball game so Mass Street was pretty busy. But walking into Black Stag, you'd think they were on the cusp of closing their doors. In the entire place, there were 4 people at the bar, and us. . The food was ok. We had a French Dip and a Philly Cheese Steak. Both were very dry. I had to borrow au jus sauce from across the table to moisten my sandwich. The only bright spot was our server. She was great and I felt kind of bad for her. You could tell she had the server passion you want in a server. The beer was OK, but not anything memorable. We went across the street to Free State afterward and it was standing room only and full of KU fans watching the Jayhawks win.

Was my first brew pub visited during my first visit to Lawrence. I was expecting midwestern friendliness but didn't get it here. I picked an IPA, was ok. I was surprised why a $6 pint had a $1 tax. 17%! As an out of towner I asked about this and was not given an informed answer. I'd think that if you have such a high / unusual tax unique to site-brewed beer that your staff would be readily able to speak to how such a tax is assessed but only got ‍

Came for the first time with my boyfriends and his family, overall very disappointing experience. Got there and after being sat waited 10 minutes till our waitress finally came over and acknowledged us, ordered our drinks 2 cokes and 2 beers, cokes took about 7 minutes and the beers took about 15 minutes, our server never came to check to see if we liked the beer, we didn't like one of them and that wasn't taken off our bill. Once we realized how long the service was taking we decided to order our appetizer and entrees at the same time so we wouldn't have to wait very long. Appetizer (crab cakes) came out at a good time we were all pleased, then we proceed to wait an hour for our food to come out, our server (Emma C) rarely came to check on us we had to flag her down for a drink refill which those still took awhile to get to us. When we finally got our food it was cold maybe room temp and that's being generous. I personally work at a restaurant and I was applaud at this entire experience. We were all very disappointed as we had heard good things about Black Stag. I would also like to preface that it was not busy for this kind of service.
