The store is small, but the selection is still fairly diverse for most of everything you're looking for. Most of the employees are great and upbeat folks that are willing to help you with anything you need!

Big Dave doesn't have the best wine prices I've seen, but he does offer 15% off on Tuesdays. Does that mean you pay 15% more the other 6 days of the week? The cool thing about Big Dave's was I saw absinthe on the shelf -- the first time I've ever seen it. Absinthe has been illegal in the U.S. since Prohibition and was only recently OK'd for sale again. If you're not familiar with it, Absinthe was a favorite of many late 19th- early 20th-century artists, like Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec. It supposedly makes you hallucinate, which is why the woman at Big Dave's cautioned me to be careful if I tried it.I admit I'm intrigued. There's a whole exotic preparation you must go through to drink absinthe, which includes a slotted spoon, a sugar cube, and some cold water. I didn't completely understand it, but one of the brands Big Dave's had even came with it's own spoon. How cool is that!

Perfectly friendly little neighborhood liquor store. Dave and his wife, not to mention the rest of the staff are always friendly and good for small talk the way home from a rough day at the office (or on the way to a fun night with friends and fam). Thanks!

This is an excellent local business. I really don't get the couple of reviews that say they have been treated rudely here. I've been coming here occasionally for over ten years and have always been treated wonderfully. Dave and his wife (sorry, I need to ask her name) are always friendly and helpful whether I'm spending $5.00 or $100.00. Highly recommended.

Big Dave's isn't the biggest, best or well stocked liquor store. That's not an indictment, just an observation. It is what it is, a neighborhood liquor store that meets the needs of the immediate area near downtown OP.Service is always friendly, so friendly in fact that I've spent 10 minutes in there talking to the clerk or Big Dave himself. I don't go often enough for them to know my name, I am, after all, kinda quiet and don't go out of my way to talk to people in stores. But, somehow, they're so friendly I get in a conversation with them.I wouldn't go in there looking for that new microbrew or hard to find liquor, but if you're just needing a quick sixer of Boulevard or a cheap bottle of red wine, Big Dave's will have what you seek. You'll probably also get into a nice convo that makes you think you'll go back a lot sooner than you actually will.

Big Dave has always been very nice and helpful... good variety of liquior to choose from. His wife (co owner) on the other hand was very snobbish and unhelpful the one time i seen her in their store, made me feel very unwelcome :( Won't give their store a bad rating because of one experience but then again i doubt i will be back :(

I am giving this liquor store for stars with the caveat that you know you're walking to a small, locally owned place. The employees are always friendly and helpful. They consistently have a good variety of beer and wine for a shop of their size. I was impressed today when I went in to buy a bottle of wine and mentioned it was a gift, and they offered to wrap it and put ribbon on it!

The service here is terrible. Unwelcoming and aggressively rude owner harasses patrons to the DTOP area. With so many businesses to choose from, steer clear of this place.

Wow. Really disappointing service! I was charged twice on my credit card. I had to spend my time taking my statements to them, waste half an hour standing there, then leave with the promise of follow up and a phone call to resolve this. Its now almost 2 weeks later, no phone calls or follow ups, and when I called the store they were actually put out and rude. Really? Come on, "stuff" happens and that is no big deal... its the way you handle it when it does.
