Loved this park! Learned this hidden gem was only 15 minutes from my home, so my husband and I brought our dog (leashed) and took a long walk around the park. 2 smaller trails and one longer trail made for a great evening! All trails appeared to be accessible paths and their kids playground area and pollinator gardens will be fun to visit with kiddos in the future. Also good to know - they have nice bathrooms!

This new Johnson County Park has potential. Right now it has one short but very nice cement walking path and a longer trail through a small forest. The forest as many hedge apple trees, cedars, hackberries. It's not bad for the middle of Kansas, but it's nowhere near the best forest in the Kansas City area. There were brand new, nice pavilions for group gatherings and there was a play area for children that seemed pretty nice.Although it's south of Edgerton it was a relatively quick drive from Olathe.

This is a great new addition to JCPRD. Saturday September 22nd was their ribbon cutting ceremony to open up the park. We weren't able to make it, but decided to go later in the evening to check things out. It's a bit of a drive from the KC metro, about 30 minutes on 35, but it's worth it. This place is huge! Like Shawnee Mission Park big. The park is rolling out in a phases, so expect new things later on. Currently they have: A nature playground, three quarters of a mile of wide paved (cement) trails, picnic shelters with grills, outlets, and overhead lights, real restrooms (not port-a-potties!!), a prairie restoration area, disc golf, and a group camping area. There are three different entrances to the park, each leading to different amenities. The nature playground is at the Sunflower Road entrance. The playground is the whole reason we made the drive out here and I'm so glad we did!My daughter had a blast here. There's a lot to do for all ages. Even my 13 year old would enjoy it. The playground is separated into different areas for different activities. You can climb on rope structures, walk in a creek, play musical instruments, build with blocks, and our favorite - splash around in the water features. Unfortunately, the water features turn off around 6:30pm so I didn't get any photos!! You can see them on the JCPRD website. They have constructed these natural looking splash pads with sandpits. They have one for big kids and one for little kids. You can play in them without getting completely soaked, but if you want to let the kids go wild make sure you bring towels. Bathroom facilities are nearby to help with cleanup. After playing, we walked part of the trail. It's gorgeous out there as the sun is setting. Lots of open prairie with tall grasses and sunflowers. The paved trail is extra wide so bikes and walkers can easily share it. Dog cleanup stations and drinking fountains are located nearby for easy use. Definitely make the trip out here if you're looking to spend some time enjoy the great outdoors. Your kids will love it! Don't forget the towels. ;)

New park with walking trails. Two paved ones (1200 steps to right, 1000 steps to left circle) which are wide, smooth paved cement. Several other dirt paths that are longer, but its been too muddy to try. Dogs on leash ok. Great play area for kids, with sandpits, climbing stuff etc. Looks like they'll have fountains when its warmer. Clean flush restrooms, but water to drinking fountains turned off for season.
