Visited last night; I couldn't find a drink on the menu I was particularly drawn to (I am a rum girly) and the staff told me there was a new seasonal drink called the Winter Mojito with coconut. They brought it out to me and ensured I tried it to see if I liked it. I am OBSESSED! Barrio, PLEASE keep this on the menu, I beg you. I drank first, SORRY! The drink has me sold and I need to return ASAP.

The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because of the service, so I'll start with that first. Service: 1 star, Food: 5 stars, Ambiance: 5 starsI came here for the first time with my friend who typically has a lot of requests with her orders (extra sauces, substitutions, etc). But it's never anything unreasonable to ask for. From the first interaction with our server she seemed inexperienced with the menu and the tablet ordering system. She asked us to repeat everything twice while ordering like she was trying to catch up the entire time. While we ordered there seemed to be some confusion about what was included with and Taco Salad entree. My friend ordered the salad with a soda and a side of fries that she thought was included. However, later on when our food started coming out the server simply brought everything else besides the fries without even mentioning them. Once we realized they were missing and asked her about it she gave us a confused look like she was trying to figure out if we were supposed to get them or not. After going to the kitchen and coming back she said "oh yeah so I guess the salad doesn't come with a side. Did you still want those fries or will that salad fill you up?" WELL OF COURSE WE WANT WHAT WE ORDERED. And even if we didn't, as the server it's your job to present the options and let us as the customer decide what they want to do. I was completely shocked at what we heard and I knew right then she had probably not gotten properly trained for her position. This only became more apparent when my friend finished her drink multiple times during our visit and the server would interrupt our conversation to ask if she wanted a refill. JUST BRING IT. As former servers, it was just hard to watch and experience this level of service so that definitely affected my first impression of the place. The level of communication was very poor and it was only made worse that she was the only server at the time besides the bartender that was stepping out to serve tables too. The food and the ambiance were a whole different story. The atmosphere inside is very bright and friendly. Plenty of TVs to watch and a lot of colorful decorations to catch your eye. But the real star is the food. We started with some chips, salsa and queso before the meal. The chips were nice and crispy with a good amount of seasoning that I really enjoyed. The salsas were also great. The red one was a bit spicier and the green was more liquid and milder but I think I enjoyed the taste of that one even more. It was very unique and not like anything I've had before. The queso was the perfect temperature and complimented fair chips well. Not too runny or too hard. For my meal I ordered the Burnt End Quesadilla with a Sangarita to drink. Although the quesadillas are considered an appetizer they are definitely filling enough to be an entree. The tortillas were perfectly crispy and flaky when you bite into them and the cheese melts in your mouth perfectly. The burnt ends are super delicious too! Really cooked to perfection in my opinion. It was the perfect combination with the spicy barbecue dipping sauce included (which also tasted great with the chips!). The only complaint I had was that the quesadilla was just a bit too greasy for my liking. But other than that I really loved every bit of it. The Sangarita drink was exactly what I expected, a perfect combo of a sangria and a margarita, but in frozen form. My friend ordered the Old School Taco Salad with steak and absolutely loved it! I could tell right when she got into it that the taco bowl was super flaky and the greens were super fresh. No complaints whatsoever with the food. Overall, everything was great except for the service. I'd still recommend for anyone looking for some tasty food and good vibes.

We visited a cute restaurant with balcony seating, perfect for enjoying the cooler August weather. It's a seat-yourself setup, and we opted for the upstairs balcony. The service was quick--our waiter greeted us within two minutes of sitting down. The only downside was that our waters never got refilled, but the pitcher of margaritas we ordered made up for it!I tried the Pork Lucha Libre Wrap, which was delicious, though a bit on the liquidy side--something to keep in mind. The chips and queso were absolutely amazing! I'll definitely be back for more chips, queso, and margaritas!

Stopped in after leaving a performance in the area. Everything was great! Our waitress Isabel was super fast & attentive. I enjoyed the music playing & loved how fresh the food was. A bonus was that the drink was stroooong (if you know what I mean lol) Will be back!

After Sol Cantina closed I was a little worried the next thing would be less good but I enjoyed my dinner at Barrio Taqueria! Our server was very attentive and had good recommendations. I attempted to order the spicy pineapple marg which she warned me off of if you're not a huge spice person, but the mango was a good substitute! I thought the happy hour deals were really solid and it would be a good spot for a work happy hour. I got an order of queso and chips which was delish. I ended up getting the avocado, shrimp, and the chorizo con papas. All of the tacos are huge and generously topped. I enjoyed all three! The restaurant was not crowded on a Saturday night but I would def like to come back during the summer and hang out on the roof.

Nice spot for a quick happy hour bite/drink. The weather was perfect so they had their huge windows open. Tasty spicy margs, queso & guac, tacos and more at affordable prices! Service was friendly too. They have a rooftop as well, but it wasn't open when we stopped by!

Heard this place just recently opened up and decided to check it out with some friends. This place replaced the old sol catina. The new place has a new rooftop patio but it was too hot to check it out. Downstairs, is plenty of seatings and spacious. A good crowd came in and our server was all right. She keeps forgetting to get our water and napkins but she's always on point when we would order though. Our table had the seafood quesadilla, ceviche, guacomole, and brunt ends quesdillas. Food was okay, not up to par as you would expect from a taqueria. Felt like it was lacking flavor and I'm not sure if i like the cheese on the outside of my quesadilla though and our tortilla was brunt. Ceviche had shrimps, scallops, jicama and tomato juice with lime. The shrimps were a bit cooked to long it was hard. But I hope this is just room for improvements in the future. Some drinks were good and some were all right. Margaritas and the Aqua Frescas was tasty, mexican candy shots were too bland.

This place is ok at best. It's a casual spot with a decent happy hour and plenty of drink and food options. The drinks are good and I really enjoyed the mango agua fresca but drinks alone are usually never enough to bring me back to a place since you can find good quality drinks at many restaurants and bars around KC.For food I decided to try the seafood quesadilla. It was a little rich for my taste. There's cheese inside and also cheese on top. The abundance of cheese makes it hard to taste much else and the tortilla was a little burnt. Also had a chance to try the ceviche and chips and guac. Both of which lacked flavor and didn't seem too authentic. On the plus side they do a good job with the presentation of their food. Service from our server was generally pretty good. She checked up on us often enough but she did forget to bring us back a refill of water towards the end. Aside from that the service was fine.

I'd probably say this place is closer to 3-1/2 stars, but it was pretty good. Popped in for dinner on a Friday night and was pretty shocked to see that they only had two server/bartenders on duty with one manager running food. It was raining and there were only 6-8 tables so it didn't kill the speed of service, but it did take a lot longer to get things (and had to give a couple reminders) than I would have expected for such a light crowd. The food was pretty good. The spicy margarita is SPICY! No joke. I liked it, but it should come with a warning label- that thing has a kick! The loaded queso was good, and they season their chips which was an excellent surprise. I was surprised to see that they do "wraps"- which are really more like paninis- than burritos, but I went for the Chicken and Chorizo. It was solid, but the chorizo was WAY too salty- without question the saltiest chorizo I have ever had. The rice was terrible- flavorless, bland. I wouldn't get it again. I tried my girlfriend's Elote, and it tastes like you would expect, but the corn was obviously canned or frozen and hadn't been grilled on-the-cob like street corn should be. The Fried Avocado Taco was delicious, though! Great combo with the mango and aioli.Overall, meh. Not bad, not great. Some hits but some really glaring mistakes, too.
