I'm seeing some reviews describe this restaurant being in an old castle.I think that's a former location.The restaurant is now in a regular building along a busy road and across the street from a cemetery.It's a popular place.I waited about thirty minutes on a Saturday night for a table.While I was waiting, a local gentleman couldn't stop saying nice things about the place. He said it's been his favorite restaurant for over 60 years.I'm not sure I share his enthusiasm, but I enjoyed eating a perfectly acceptable and a-ok dinner.I ordered Jose's Special Enchilada Meal - three enchiladas served with red pork chile and a tostada.It may not look like much, but it's mighty filling.I liked the enchiladas - especially the cheese one.I wish the red sauce held more flavor.I didn't finish the tostada - not because it was bad - but because I was full.My server was pleasant, however I thought the dining room was a little crowded.

Some of my favorite Mexican food I've ever had. The portions were huge and the prices were wonderful. A Big Mac would have costed more than my whole plate of food. The service was wonderful

It's a hometown favorite. The food is consistently great, the service is excellent, and it's a fun place to share a meal with family and friends. Highly recommend the beef enchiladas and the fideo.

This has been one of our family's favorite restaurants since I was a child! The food is amazing. The staff is amazing. We always try to make a stop in when I'm visiting the STJ!

After two visits in the last week, I'm surprised at some of the lackluster reviews.We found the restaurant clean and the service friendly, expedient and proficient. The space is on the small side and you may have to wait a bit. Totally worth it. It's true the food is unlike any Mexican fare you've likely had. That's because they cook things in lard. And it results in some great food. The tortilla chips and hot cheese dip (or salsa, avocado dip, spicy bean dip or beefy cheese dip) will have you wondering if you weren't served pastry instead. They serve the best tacos I've ever had anywhere. Yes, they will charge extra for cheese. So what? The only non-punitive deficit is that they don't offer a fajita plate. Which is why next time in I'm going to take the Fajita Burrito for a test drive. I live in Kansas City and will make the drive in a heartbeat. Again and again. Trust me. If you're jonesing for Mexican and can put your diet aside for an hour, Barbosa's won't disappoint.

We came here for my daughters birthday. The food wasn't very good. I ordered street tacos. They were the smallest I've ever seen. Nothing we ordered had much favor at all. I would not come back.

Came here to lower my rating, but can't go lower. Due to friends, we sometimes we order carry out from here. 3 out of the last 4 times they've put us on hold and never picked up. Actually called from another line and someone else picked up and took our order all while the initial call is still on hold. This place is a joke. It's like a 3 year old is in charge.

Best Mexican food in town. Tacos, chips, enchiladas all fuego! Miss the ambiance of the castle but, the best Mexican I've ever had

Went for the first time yesterday. It was surprisingly busy for a Thursday early afternoon. We ordered the chips and salsa since they claim it is a specialty. They are big pieces of fried flour tortillas. From other reviews it seems you either love or hate them. They are well . . . floury. Not your typical chips. The salsa that came with was very bland, mostly just chunky tomato sauce. Didn't seem to have any onion, cumin, cilantro or any heat. The hot salsa is better. They served the hot salsa in a little syrup jar, kind of amusing. I had the chicken taco, cheese enchilada and bean tostada. The enchilada is a flour tortilla dipped in red enchilada sauce and then heated. The cheese is not what you normally receive in mexican food, not sure what it is exactly. The chicken taco was again in a flour tortilla fried. It was a big looking taco about 6" long so I took it home because I was getting full. Today I opened it up and there is maybe a tablespoon and a half of chicken in the big taco shell! Glad I wasn't too hungry today. My daughter asked for refried beans but got the saucy preparation of the beans instead. She also wanted green enchilada sauce but apparently they only do red - that was strange. Overall wasn't sure how to rate this place. Its not that the food is necessarily bad, it is just very different. Our server was super friendly, helpful and attentive. I would give her five stars.
