I had a lovely time here! Came to celebrate my birthday with my friend, drinks and oysters were amazing! One of the best expresso martini and French 75 I've had in a while. Also the lemon cello shot was to die for! I highly recommend giving this place a try for drinks. They do offer food however it's a selected menu with not much to offer if you're wanting dinner. Great for having something on your stomach while drinking, they do have pasta dishes as well. It's very chill, cozy, and small. Not much room but it's perfect for what they offer. The service was good! I can't wait to come back to try more of what the menu has to offer.

Located in the same building as the beautiful Mercury Room, Bar Medici has been on my list for awhile. If I'm being honest, the prepaid $20/person reservation has deterred us from visiting so we decided to stop in on a snowy winter evening. We were able to be seated quickly. The space is small but classy and the menu is also small but adequate with some nice appetizers and six very unique pasta dishes. We started with the Porcini Ciambella (mushroom dusted donuts with a lovely taleggio dipping sauce) and the Burrata (served with roasted beets). The three of us wanted to try different pastas so we decided to share the Risotto, Tagliatelle, Spaghetti Alla Chitarra, and the Cavatelli. Everything was loaded with flavor, the pasta was perfectly cooked, and each was unique in texture and presentation. The restaurant has a $25 corkage fee, nice ambiance, and good service. Considering the prepaid booking policy, I expected pricing to be quite expensive or portions to be small but neither was the case. I recommend trying Bar Medici if you're planning a nice date with Italian food in an intimate environment. You won't be disappointed!

Grabbed our Christmas dinner for the year at Bar Medici. We had a reservation, but didn't really need it. They place is beautiful, much like all of their other spots. Service was fantastic. Our cocktails were delish - I got an espresso martini. The food was just fine. We got the mushroom donuts and the osso buco. I was hoping the osso buco would be more tender, but flavors were decent. We also had an affogato for dessert. I'd go back for cocktails and coffee, but skip on the food.

We decided to give Bar Medici a try for restaurant week. Walking in your greeted by the host just inside the door. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. The restaurant itself is very small and cozy, but even for the size most of the booths/tables at the time we came in were empty. Our host sat us at the bar, which I found confusing due to the open tables. I thought perhaps when reserving I accidentally selected bar seating, but after checking noticed that there was no where to indicate seating preference when making a reservation. It's possible they wanted to ensure the bar tenders had customers, but for me personally at 8 months pregnant a booth would have been much preferable. There is no where at the bar to set or hang a purse, the bar stool backs are rounded so you can hang it from the back and being 8 months pregnant I couldn't put it in my lap, so it was very awkward seating for me. That being said, the bartenders were lovely and entertaining. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a non-alcoholic wine that I could sub for the free wine as part of the restaurant week promotion and I really wish I knew what it was and where to find it, because it was delicious. The burrata appetizer with beets was very good, although a little one note. A crispy element like bread or crackers would have helped give it some contrast. The spaghetti alla chitarra was unlike and pasta I've ever had before. The noodles were flat and thin and the crab sauce was light and understated. And while not overly crabby, there were visible pieces of crab meat in the dish. For dessert I rounded it out with the pistachio cannoli and a latte. I definitely need to give props on a truly authentic cannoli and the espresso was perfect, the beans were fresh and the drip came out with the perfect amount of flavor and low bitterness. I didn't even miss the sugar or flavoring that I would ask for at any run of the mill coffeeshop. Overall it was a very good dinner and dessert and a charming atmosphere and I would definitely come back to try more of their menu.

What a cute little cocktail bar. A girlfriend and I stopped by on our way home from lunch and what a great surprise! It's small, beautiful and known for amazing cocktails. The service was spectacular and the bartender got us up to the Mercury room upstairs afterwards. We had a great time and will definitely go back!

Where to start with how great Bar Medici is. Their customer service is top notice from the hostess to the waiting staff. I had the pleasure of being waited on my Corey who was very knowledgeable and helpful with helping understand their new seasonal dishes that was just put on their menu last week. Also helping me witty my drink order that completed my food. My Cavatelli very tasty with the noodles and sauce. I will worn you it is a little spicy but that crazy spicy. The restaurant is amazing looking with decor all along the wall. I would say if you are downtown and are looking for a place to take your lady for a night cap or wanting this place for a date night you need to visit Bar Medici. Try out their new seaonal dishes

Visited Bar Medici for a second time . The service was really great again . Corey was super helpful and friendly. The drinks were just as good as before and aesthetically pleasing. We decided to check out the food this visit . I order because the Spaghetti Alla Chitara . While the taste was good. I really wish there crab meat or some type of filling aside from noodles and cheese. It seems the menu does change seasonally. I do not plan to order this pasta again but I definitely want to check out more parts of the menu. I definitely recommend this place for a girls night out or date night. This place really is really one to check out !!

I was invited to the soft opening weekend for Bar Medici located in the Crossroads art district of Kansas City. Every aspect of the restaurant, from the Italian food and cocktails to the lovely ambiance and service, left me seriously impressed. While the space is cozy, its intimate size adds a sense of exclusivity. You can tell that everything was carefully chosen from the comfortable furniture to the decor giving a very aesthetically pleasing ambiance. We started the evening with cocktails and they were definitely the highlight of the entire experience. The waiter's recommendations were spot on for my personal tastes. The Il Contadino cocktail (despite my usual aversion to mezcal) was my favorite of the night. It was a more special take on a spicy margarita. The second drink (Aereo Di Carta) which included Aperol (again not usually my favorite in cocktails) was perfectly balanced with the other ingredients. It was also beautiful to look at. I only tried a few dishes but I am so excited to try more things. A standout dish was the Porcini Ciambella, which was their take on a savory donut. The fluffy texture and mushroom seasoning served with a buttery cheese sauce was literally a masterpiece. We ordered a second round because we were so blown away by these. The focaccia with chili butter and the Granchio Spaghetti alla Chitarra (Crab pasta) were also equally exceptional. I am confident that Bar Medici will become a prominent fixture in the Crossroads area. I'm looking forward to my next visit to this new gem of a restaurant!

Lovely new addition from the creators of the Exit Strategy brand (The Mercury Room, the Monarch Bar, and Verdigris). The food was inventive yet approachable, and absolutely delicious. We had the savory doughnuts (they are fluffy with no filler and a delicious cheese sauce), oysters, the pasta with crab, and the scallops. Everything was outstanding, and we would order every dish again. We also had the chocolate chip cannoli and the affogato for dessert. Amazing and beautiful presentation. This place has the 'wow' factor, and a feeling of somehow being both trendy and timeless. Service is exceptional. They also check your coat, which is a nice touch. Cocktails were also outstanding. We had the Lanista (berry and slightly sweet in the middle, with a dry and bitter finish) and the Between the Sheets (twist on a sidecar). Well done on an excellent opening weekend. We'll be back.

We stopped by this restaurant one night and saw it was packed - couldn't get a table. The menu looked promising and reviews were good so we took mental note and returned another evening. This time we got a same-day First Friday reservation without problem. Unfortunately, although food presentation was lovely, and the staff attentive, we didn't feel like the food lived up to expectations and the 4+ star reviews. The savory mushroom donuts get points for being unique and I like the cheese dipping sauce accompanying them, but the mushroom powder coating the donuts wasn't my favorite. The homemade focaccia had garlic and rosemary and was served with olive oil and balsamic, which in hindsight was maybe the most solid item we ordered, but also nothing to write home about. Moving on to our pastas, I couldn't eat more than a bite of the crab bisque pasta, which was overly seasoned and it triggered some hidden memory in the back of my mind of college days eating cheap ramen with sodium filled seasoning packets ... but this time the seasoning was Old Bay. The sweet corn ricotta ravioli had a lot of promise but it suffered from being under seasoned. Maybe a little lemon and salt would have balanced it just right. It otherwise had lovely summer forward flavors. To try to end on a better note, we shared the pistachio gelato, which was a generous serving size but sadly bland and needed a touch more sweetness to balance the salty pistachios sprinkled on top. Cocktails that were served near us looked beautiful and I overheard one customer getting a non-alcoholic version of her Negroni - a nice option that wasn't listed on the menu. My dining mate thought his gin and tonic was great and he is a bit of a connoisseur of g&t's. Finally, when we were presented with the bill, the waitress handed over her iPad device and asked us to tip 20%+ ... but our bill already had a "hospitality" charge of 20% included. The waitress said she didn't realize it and apologized, but when we reserved online I thought the website said 20% is automatically included for all parties. Overall, the menu had promise and the food looks beautiful, but each food item we tried lacked proper balance of flavors. This is probably best viewed as a place to occasionally have a beautiful (and expensive) cocktail, and maybe some focaccia, but otherwise plan to dine elsewhere.
