I popped into this spot for a quick lunch one day. This place was packed!!! And still got my delicious bowl of ramen (MISO) to me straight away. It was so delicious.I have been to a few of these little ramen shops and they are designed pretty similar. I can't say that it is a comfortable place to go eat and that is because it is not what they are designed for. They are functional and quick. The food is VERY good. So stop in here for that quick bite. Also definitely want to recommend the appetizers and small plates!

Yikes. What has happened to this place? Why has it gone downhill so badly?I ordered a bowl of the ramen I had in my previous review, which has a spicy soup base. Because I like things really spicy, I asked for an extra cup of the spicy sauce on the side to add in to increase the heat level. When they brought my order, my ramen had a non spicy base, and the side of spicy less than a teaspoon and not enough to make it hot. Additionally, the soup was room temperature. I told the waiter about this, and he said they used a non spicy broth so I could adjust the spice myself, which is not what I asked for. He didn't fix the issue or give me what I actually ordered. He also didn't even give me more of the spicy mixture to add in. He just left me there with a bowl of cold, bland, unspicy, subpar soup. To add to this mess, I then discovered I was upcharged for the side of spicy, even though it was only the amount that should have been included in my bowl in the first place. To make matters worse, if you come here alone and say you would prefer to sit at a table rather than at the bar, elbow to elbow with men you don't know, the servers treat you like absolute garbage and rush you as fast as they can so they can turn your table over. I was there less than 15 min total, with other tables open, and they treated me like I was the biggest inconvenience on the planet. This is a place I used to love, but it's only going to stay a memory moving forward. Horrible treatment with subpar food. Yuck.

TL;DR: If you're looking for the best ramen in town, it's at KC Craft Ramen. Aoyama used to be my go-to ramen spot in Kansas City, but I recently returned after a long time and it can't compare to what's being served these days at KC Craft Ramen. KCCR opened a year ago and has an awesomely rich but balanced broth with tons of veggies and chewy noodles made fresh onsite with a noodle machine brought from Japan. Aoyama's broth isn't nearly as complex and any added veggies are an additional cost. The noodles were also much more disappointing than I remembered. Aoyama also doesn't offer the wide range of snacks, desserts, and drinks that KCCR has, and KCCR offers popups with ramen restaurants from Japan through their partnerships with those restaurants. Bottom line - Aoyama isn't terrible for a rainy weeknight if it's close by but isn't my first pick by a long shot.

We came in early around 11 and it was mostly empty. They had very quick service and were also very friendly. I started with the Gyoza which was very good. It was soft, warm and full of flavor. Then I got a ramen bowl with chicken broth, garlic, and green onions. It was very hearty, and soothing. I really enjoyed it.

The customer service was nice. The lady was very helpful when ordering. She was really patient and helpful with the children. The atmosphere was very calm, relaxing abdominal quiet. This is a place you can go to just relax and get a reset. The food was amazing! I loved the ramen and the different types they had. They also have a list of add ons which makes it even better you can basically customize your ramen by adding on.The side dish that I chose was tasty.** The server and cooks were extremely helpful with myself and children. They split the ramen and broth into two bowls for my younger children , they also put the chili sauce on the side for the shrimp ** I was very pleased with the place!Overall everything was tasty, fresh and fulfilling!

Ramen options are few and far between in KC so we were happy to see this location near our home. On a chilly Friday evening, we decided to give it a try. Here is our experience:Location: 9/10 119th and Blackbob is where this tucked away restaurant resides. Peak times make finding a spot to park cumbersome and quite a few people had to park and walk.Get Cozy: 7/10 Maximum occupancy is 40 people! This place is very small and when we arrived, we sat at the bar. This is not a deal breaker, but I do wish there were hooks to hang bags or purses up on. I didn't want to put my purse on the floor, so I put it next to me on the bar. If you are in a rush or do not like crowded places, your best bet is to do a carryout order. Coming during non-peak times may also be a better option versus 5pm on a Friday evening.Customer Service 8.5/10 Everyone was really nice and we were seated quickly. Everyone was efficient and checked on us often. They were fully staffed and with the restaurant being so small, a few folks were standing around. This did not bother me though because they were waiting on tables to order or take food to tables.Food: 7/10 My husband got the Miso hot ramen, while I ordered the crowd favorite Tonkostu ramen bowl. Mine was okay and I actually preferred the flavor of the Miso soup better. We did not get any appetizers this time, but we plan to on our next visit. Our meal was $30.Overall: 7.87/10 The ramen was decent and the customer service was great. I did not care for the Tonkostu ramen and I much prefer the Miso soup for flavor. I did not like how small this place was and I do not recommend this is as a place for a large group of people. Vibe and food wise, I prefer Boru in KC, especially on the occupancy and size. I would visit again, but probably not for a while.

Quick pickup at the restaurant, with spill-proof packaging and extra care to separate the broth and noodles/toppings to prevent sogginess. Flavorful broth with perfectly cooked egg tender pork. Noodles were slightly dry but softened after soaking in broth.First order: Classic TonkatsuSecond order: Spicy Miso and Classic Tonkatsu
