I pity the foolThat doesn't read the reviewsThis hellish vortexEvery interaction with staff at this place was basically I could give a fuck about you and your concerns. Pulled up at at 3 to see if I could check in. Attendant was like no not until the 4pm check in time. Didn't know what it was, but every other hotel checks and 99% of the time they find a room that is ready. Come back a couple hours later and check in. The smoke alarm is sitting above the hanging clothes rack with no smoke alarm attached where it should be. Turn on the TV. This channel is not available over and over again. I call the front desk. Ten rings. No answer. Wait a good twenty minutes. Call again. No answer. Go down to the lobby. Employee there tells me hotel wide problem. I said no problem. Left and came back a couple hours later. Asked if the TV's were working again. He looked at me like I was from Mars. No hotel-situation that he was aware of. Go up to the room. TV still not working. Go back down. Ask if I can move to another room. He now says it is a hotel-wide issue so no point. TV being out is not the worst problem in the world. I've had the problem at other hotels. They send someone up and fix it easily. Here you are straight up ignored if not slightly disrespected. Wake up this morning and housekeeping is knocking on doors at 8:45 in the morning. Everybody was still in their room of course. Quickly hung out my do not disturb sign. Go elsewhere! Spend the extra money! Cool historical photos of Kansas City all over the place. So one plus.

Perhaps consider staying after upcoming renovation to a Hilton.Giving one star is all I can do because I didn't complain on day 1 of our stay. The staff was kind and they are the best part of this facility. Our reservation was for two people yet the room only had one set of towels. I asked for second set of towels and 4 hours later, I asked again and waited for them to be handed to me. It was a busier day so perhaps they didn't have bandwidth for more prompt service. That's ok. Walter was kind and professional. Thank you, Walter. The website said due to covid, the breakfast included would be "Grab n Go". I assumed yogurt, danish and other items typically individually packaged from other hotel chains. They had nothing. The coffee maker in the room was broken so we went downstairs to find coffee. There was none to be found, but the manager was kind enough to make two cups in the Keurig machine in her office. Thank you, Lovely. A major kicker was that our room was infested with cockroaches, but they were so young I didn't know what they were until I spotted larger ones on day three of our stay. I informed the housekeeper that if she lifts any upside down cups in the room, don't be surprised because I caught a bunch so she can show her manager. I also informed the manager at the hotel, but they made no concessions for us except to stay that the hotel has new owners and the place is going to be remodelled starting tomorrow. I don't know if that's true or not, so I decided to post this review. A few other items. The shower was very modern but the toilet ran constantly. Clearly a water leak that needs fixing. The floor was stained and filthy. Never go barefoot. Wear slippers the entire time. I think you get the drift if you even got past the cockroaches. We stayed because this is walking distance to 3 family households we were visiting, but we will definitely not stay here again. I can not recommend an area code hotel chain based on this and I'll even shy away from Choice Hotels. The website states this is an Ascend Hotel Collection, but I saw no sign of that either.

Well...the price is right. Much smaller and less impressive room than On the website. Pretty bland in the standard room. Also a bit musty smell through out .Also thought it off that a 4th floor room window opens.. but just a little. . Didn't think that was code anymore. Also cable was out. TheyDid tell us at check in and could offer another sister hotel. But just one night &going out anyway. No blanket. Just a sheet and a thicker white cover (see pic) . Lobby seemed dark and drab and drapes on front window falling . And very noisy so close to Westport. So...probably won't choose again.

I try to not post negative reviews and reach out to a manager or someone at the business who can actually make a difference but.....stayed here July 2, 2020. They are in process of changing from a Choice hotel to Hilton. The staff was really good. They tried. A young man went and got me clean sheets. They had no housekeeping on at 7p when we noticed this. We had one set of towels. The in room AC was either cold or off. I have traveled for for over 25 years. There is no excuse for renting a room like this.

The 5 stars are from 10/2016. This hotel is closed as 10/03/2022 when I went by to visit to see how things are going. Read many negative reviews and I can conclude that the staff must of stopped caring because the owners did. Sorry to see such a nice place in my memory fade like the many casualties that the COVID pandemic has claimed. Never the less the burger / bar next door is still open l, that's one bright side!

As someone who travels a fair amount on the road doing shows, I've stayed in excellent places and some that when you left, you knew you were going to wash everything the moment you got home. The 816 Hotel in the Westport area of Kansas City, MO is NOT the latter. The highlights of my experience included a nice, clean bed area and a ridiculously huge shower space! Throw in the mini fridge for a basic room and the courteous staff and I know I will return to stay here the next time I find my way through the home of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, which for a sports fan is less than 20 minutes from the 816.

Terrible check in experience. Room took forever to be ready. Website says you get your first drink at the bar complimentary...if they mean a girl slouching on a chair with an igloo cooler handing out wine in plastic cups a complimentary drink! The bar was never open, it had bar stools on top of it the whole time. No water available at front desk, was told to use vending machines.Would not recommend.

This was a nice hotel in the heart of the Westport neighborhood. Very close to bars, restaurants and businesses. They have access to a great Gym a few blocks away with everything you could want as far as work out equipment. We didn't stay in the themed rooms, but the updated rooms that we did stay in were clean and comfortable. The rooms and hallways were decorated with mural sized historic photographs of Kansas City and contemporary art. So fun to look at! The omelet breakfast was a great way to start the morning on Sunday. The staff was friendly and willing to answer any questions that we had.

Would definitely recommend staying at the 816 Hotel. We got in really late but it was no problem at all and they were kind to us even as we loaded in a bunch of music equipment. The omelette station at breakfast was great! We had a happy and restful night and couldn't have asked for anything more after a long 8 hour drive! Thank you 816 folks! #SponsoredPromo #816Hotel #KansasCity #Missouri #HotelStory #Entertainer #TravelIgnite #IgniteHospitalityServices

Hotel 816 is a very unique hotel! They offer amenities that I don't see often and the staff there is very friendly and accommodating. Upon check in they give you a ticket for a free drink and the hotel bar. In the morning they have made to order omelettes even! We did not use the shuttle but they have it available to use to all guests and they will take you within a four mile radius of the hotel for free! So you can visit the sights without having to pay for parking or an Uber back and forth. This is a HUGE money saver. The hotel itself is in a great location for exploring the Westport area which every time I come to is growing and adding new cool things to. There are tons of restaurants and bars close by. There is even a restaurant directly next door that was featured on The Food Network. They have recently renovated the hotel so everything is new. I love how they decorated the hotel and the rooms all with large historic murals and pictures floor to ceiling of Kansas City. I actually learned something new from the pictures in our room about Kansas City having the world's first shopping area that catered to people driving cars (1931). Our room was modern and comfortable but also had the touch of local history. They were kind enough to let us have a late check out and even accommodated our request to stay a little later but just pay a half days rate. We will definitely stay here again when back in KC! We highly recommend it!
