We went in for a quick lunch and they were pretty full on a Sunday afternoon but were able to squeeze in 9 of us. The server was very friendly and accommodating, getting everything to us as quickly as possible. We all enjoyed everything we tried. I opted for the spicy wings with house sauce and it's one of the best I have ever tasted! I also got sweet potato fries to share with everyone. It was a perfect combination of flavors. The inside was very clean and a large space with movable tables perfect for large groups. Also a large high top for really groups is available. I definitely want to go back and try their other dishes. I saw noodles and rice cakes being served as well

I went for dinner with a friend a few weeks ago after seeing a flyer for 1981 K Chicken at the Asian grocery store in the Indian Creek shopping center. It was pretty cold out, and I was hungry, so it was great to have quick service. The waiter was extremely friendly and explained the various options available to us depending on the type of chicken we wanted and the spice levels. We shared the fried dumplings (choice of meat or veggie) and I had a decent South Korean lager. They've got beer towers which looked intriguing, but was too much for just two of us. Next, I had the boneless chicken thighs with spicy sweet chili and spicy soy. Both were extra crispy and delicious. For $15, I thought I had too much food (not a bad problem these days).I don't live in OP, but I'd definitely drive back to go here!

This is simply my personal preference, and it doesn't mean the food is bad. For me, the chicken flavor is just average. While I prefer other places, let's start with the positives. The chicken itself is crispy and cooked well, with generous portions. If you're a regular, you might even get a little extra. However, I'm not a fan of the sauce. It's not terrible, but I find it either too sweet or not quite the right match for the chicken. That being said, it's not unpleasant--just not to my taste. The fries are excellent--crispy, flavorful, and definitely a highlight. I have no complaints there.Out of everything, the Spicy Rice Cakes was the highlight. They're perfectly balanced--neither too sweet nor too spicy. The rice cakes have a great texture, cooked just right, and have a satisfying consistency.I'm taking away one star because of the sauce, but overall, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Fun atmosphere with fresh, made-to-order Korean food and K-pop. We had the Korean chicken (sauce on the side) and bulgogi. Huge portions of food, with tempura- like batter for the Korean chicken. Nice change from Buffalo wings and fried chicken.

They will always get 5 stars. We tried the Ramen for the first time. The waitress said there's meat. There is no meat. It needs meat. Even a couple of slices of pork belly or something.

I ordered a half-boneless chicken. I would expect there would be different pieces of the chicken, but it turns out it's just more like chicken tenders, so it tasted less flavors. The price was fine. The taste of the spicy is missing some authentic Korean fried chicken flavors. It wasn't what I was expected.

I dont know anything about Korean fried chicken outside of Bonchon, but if this is what it's like, I need more. They're open but it's still a soft opening so some of the menu items weren't available but if the chicken we tried is any indication of things to come later, it'll be amazing. The server was really attentive. He was engaging & apologetic about the menu items that they couldn't serve yet. He didn't hover which I love. There weren't a lot of people in there but he didn't stand over us. The fried combo platter was a lot of food to share. The wings were ah-mazing!!! The crisp on the bone in glazed honey doy sold me. The boneless wings were generous in the meat to breading ratio. Their fries were on the sweeter side, like Brown Sugar Chicken & Donuts used to be. They balanced well with the melted cheese. I can't wait to come back to try the ramen.

Loved the crunchy chicken with sweet sauce chili! Subtotal was $11 for the 6 pieces.5 stars for the food and service. 4 stars for the plastic straws (bringing out without asking- hope they switch to compostable).I will definitely return and try more dishes.

We came in as a table for four and was helped immediately. Not as many flavors as CM, 92 or Prime. I got the original spicy which has no sauce, just fried. It came with a few sides of radish and veg.It took a while for the chicken to come out. And the chicken pieces were quite a bit smaller than the other kfc in the area. Batter was really crunchy but there wasn't any spice to it. The restaurant itself was really warm, 80 degrees or maybe even warmer. Not sure what was going on with their air conditioning..CM still remains my favorite.

Why is it named 1981? I don't have a clue, and I forgot to ask, but since that is the glory year that I graduated high school, it stood out in my mind, so I bookmarked it when they opened; and today I stopped in while I was in JOCO. I assume the "K" stands for Korean since Korean Fried Chicken is the specialty, but it might stand for K-pop which was annoyingly blaring from the speakers in a near empty restaurant on a mid Saturday afternoon. Nothing worse than being subjected to music that you would NEVER listen to on your own at an elevated level. Now that I've shared my age and some of my music sensibilities...let's get to the good part - The KFC Wings. I ordered the 6 piece - crispy and Crispy they were. Juicy interior and a very crunchy exterior coated in a sweet chili coating that made them succulently tasty and sticky as hell; you will need the wet nap provided. I ordered it as the lunch special with fries and soft drink; adding tax and tip I was over $20. They were damn fine wings but for shelling out $20, the wings seemed a bit small; at least pile on the fries for an illusion of value, but that was not the case either. Wings 5 stars for taste. Annoying music and value - 3 stars.
