Kaju Tofu House is a popular tofu soup restaurant in the Boston area and is well-loved for its quality dishes. The restaurant's layout is primarily focused on dining space, with minimal room for waiting, so it's best for small groups, ideally up to six people, as larger groups may have longer wait times. Service is quick and efficient, with staff promptly seating guests and serving orders, though with larger groups it may take a while. The food quality is excellent. The Banchan, particularly the kimchi, stands out with its slightly sweet flavor, distinct from store-bought options like HMart's. A go-to dish here is the Beef Intestine Tofu Soup, which is well-cleaned, nicely boiled, and includes an egg, enhancing its rich taste. The rice is soft, with a unique texture often challenging to achieve in large batches, adding to the overall dining experience. In all, Kaju Tofu is a great spot for a casual, flavorful meal and is equally satisfying for dine-in or takeout.

What a great spot! I've been to Kaju Tofu House twice and it was super busy both times. You had to put your name on the list, but the waitress was kind enough to come out with menus so we could start perusing. The restaurant was very casual and definitely gave a college feel.I've tried a few different dishes, but you really have to go with one of the tofu soups for the real deal. However, if you're looking for tteokbokki, I'd go to Seoul Topokki instead. Overall, I was happy with both dining experiences here!

I feel like I've had mixed experiences here, but enjoy it overall. It's usually packed and crowded here, so temperatures can vary depending on how crowded it is. On cold winter days, there's condensation on the windows from how steamy it gets in there. I've had different menu items from their tofu soups to clay pots and specials. I like their combination options as you can get a choice of meat and tofu soup which is perfect to share with another person. Their tteokbokki good too. I will say that I am not a fan of their banchan and find them a bit boring. I find service to be a bit lacking, but I also find that pretty common in Allston restaurants. It's constantly busy, so it's hard to flag someone down when it comes time to pack up any leftovers and pay the check. I like it enough to come back, but not enough to visit often.

Very disappointed because 1) the bonchons were not good (for example, there's a lettuce with dressing dish - a western salad??)2) extremely small portion (I got a "medium" tofu pot and have never seen such a small pot)This place was very expensive and not worth it. I would not come back.

I had heard great things about Kaju and decided to give it a try. We ordered the ttuboki, seafood pancake, and the seafood & beef tofu soup combo with spicy pork. I will admit, I am a stickler for food temperature and enjoy my food piping hot. For the most part, all of the food we ordered was served hot except for the spicy pork. It was a bit disappointing because it came in a hot plate, yet it was cold by the time it got to the table. The flavor of the pork was all right, nothing to write home about. I did like the tofu soup though. It was perfectly hot, had great flavor, and lots of tofu! The ttuboki and seafood pancake, which are both dishes we order just about every time we eat korean, were mid. We didn't finish any of the dishes and the food, overall, was disappointing.

My daughter lives down the street, and I was visiting; she knows I love all Asian food, and I had never had Korean food before, so we visited them. The small but efficient restaurant was clean and well-lit, reminding me of the Chinese restaurants I visited in Brooklyn as a boy. All good memories of my dad and I immediately made me feel at home.I ordered the fried dumplings with beef to start. As they were brought to the table, the server delivered five small bowls: black beans, kimchi, Mung bean salad, greens, and others. I sampled them all and loved all the flavors; the kimchi was not too hot and had a wonderful taste and texture. Everything was fresh and delicious.I ordered the seafood hot pot, and my daughter ordered the pan-fried noodles with beef. The seafood was plentiful, but the squid was too chewy. The sauce was wonderful, and I love how the rice gets hard and crunchy at the bottom of the stone bowl. My daughter loved her dish too, but she always eats there. Even though it was early, barely 6 pm, the place was crowded, and I watched as many happy customers came to pick up outgoing orders. It was not too expensive, and the quality was impressive. Overall the great service, generous portions and unique flavors make this a place I will return to in the future.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was crowded. We were lucky as a table opened up when we walked in. The staff was very friendly and quick to take our order. The restaurant looked very clean, and it felt very cozy. I ordered the bibim goksu, and it was packed with flavor and so refreshing for the summer heat. It had a perfect balance of sweetness, sourness, and saltiness all in one. The galbi was well seasoned and sweet, and the meat was so tender. The bones easily came off without much effort. I had a taste of the soup, and it was very tasty. Can definitely taste the seafood, and the tofu was smooth and silky. Overall, it was a very delicious meal, and the pricing was very fair. Bonus points for the free banchan with the meal.

Kaju is amazing! It is the best place to get Soondobu (tofu stew) in the Boston. I love getting a soup combination so you can try different things. My favorite is the kimchi&beef soup with an egg + pork belly. My wife enjoy the soup + bibimbap (think fried rice or mix or mix rice)?combination. There are a few things to remember:They sell kimchi to go now. Small for $5, medium for $9, and large for $15. This is for the kimchi lover. There is also a Dominque special now. It's either a large soup + medium bbq combination or medium soup + large bbq. The usual combination is medium soup + medium bbq. A la cart is typically large. This combination is for the hungry customers.

Stopped by here for a casual lunch with friends. The place is pretty unassuming and small. Service was okay, but they forgot the sprite my friend ordered (but maybe we had to grab the can ourself? Not sure). We each got our own dishes-- the bulgogi clay pot, galbi claypot, bulgogi noodle soup, shrimp shumai, and beef and calamari tofu soup. Mine was the galbi-- I the meat was sweet and tender. Definitely not for those who don't like sweet and savory. The whole dish was pretty oily, but somehow the rice didn't crisp up (I let the rice sit to do so) like it normally should with stone pots. My friend's clay pot rice also didn't crisp up :( The veggies were kinda lackluster, just some lettuce and slices of carrot and radish. I will say that they gave a lot of meat, and to a good ratio of rice. The portion was definitely shareable between two people if you don't have a big appetite. My friends had mixed reviews about their food. Soondubu had pleasant remarks. The shumai and bulgogi noodle soup were reported to be bland (we all agreed about the shumai). This restaurant is good if you want a quick and filling fix for Korean food, but not among the best Korean food I've had.

This is one of my favorite spots to go to in Allston. It's a really low key spot, and always a satisfying dining experience. Not necessarily a place I would rave about, but it's good and I keep coming back here with friends because of that. For food I almost always go for their combos - it is sooo worth it in my opinion because once you sit down and see the dishes being served at the tables around you, it'll be hard to choose just one thing to get. The combo comes with a small tofu soup (this is what their known for and you can choose from several options like beef, seafood, vegetable, etc.) and a small portion of one of their meat options (for example, beef bulgogi or galbi ribs). Here's a pro tip (specifically for people like me who are indecisive and like being able to taste a lot of different things during a meal): come with group, everyone get a combo, and then vary the meats amongst everyone and share them family style - everyone gets to enjoy their own bowl of soup (again, this is what they're known for, and probably the main reason to come here!) and the table gets a nice selection of meats to go with the meal. Another pro tip: their spicy is SPICY so if it's your first time, I recommend choosing a spice level you think you can handle and then ordering the level below it - I learned the hard way, haha.I would say that I always have good service here; they set you up with water and a nice banchan spread to start and the rest of the food comes out pretty quickly. Overall a very solid spot for a casual meal with family and friends!
