This is a very useful local grocery store selling quality meats and fish products. It's possible to buy ingredients for a gourmet meal including seasonal vegetables and an excellent but small wine selection. However, be alert at the checkout. A new employee tried to charge the customer before me $7 for a chocolate bar worth 70 cents and then tried to charge me $5.22 for an onion worth $1.22. This is a great little place but just be alert.

The only place I buy my meat. Life long South Boston resident. K & 8th has been here even longer than me. A family business that knows how to take care of their customers. They are the best.

When you live in Southie, you sacrifice life's conveniences - like owning a vehicle and being able to run errands - for skyrocketing real estate investments and Nantucket-inspired fashion. My best friend made such sacrifices and I don't mind visiting him from time to time, especially in the summer when we can walk to the beach for some tanning and bird, I mean people, watching. We've been going to K & 8 for years and have seen it (and its patrons) evolve over that time. Although the Celtics jerseys have been traded for Vineyard Vines polos, the owners still provide their authentic South Boston charm. You can honestly do almost all of your grocery shopping (now including beer and wine) here. They've tastefully remodeled the interior to give it a more modern aesthetic and it also handles crowd control a little better. The meat market in the back has everything you need - but expect to pay Whole Foods prices, which is why I'm dinging them 1 star. Filet Mignon for almost $30/lb and steak tips for $15/lb. If you live in Southie and your only other option is Stop & Shop on Broadway (the worst), be prepared to pay top dollar for your next dinner party. A word of advice from somebody who buys a lot of steak - always get fresh tips and marinate or rub them yourself. The marinated tips are always the old ones that didn't sell. Fresh, high-quality meat doesn't need a ton of doctoring up. The customer service is great and the owner knows my buddy and his wife by name, which is always refreshing to see. For those of you who live in Southie, this is an absolute necessity to your neighborhood. For those of us in the burbs, we have the luxury of being able to shop around. But for when I can't stop at Wegmans or McKinnons, I know I'll find whatever I need at K & 8.

K & 8th is a great stop if you're not looking to get to a grocery store or wanting to drive anywhere. They are all friendly inside and the place is usually busy.It doesn't have everything you're looking for, but it has all of the essentials that you could need. All of the meats that they carry are Boar's Head so it can get a little pricey in that aspect.Good selection of fruits and veggies....wish there was better cheese selection. The chicken and steak tips are all marinated very well, good flavor. I think the steak tips are a little pricey but they are delicious. The sun-dried tomato chicken breasts are great. It's a one stop shop for to quickly stock up on the essentials, with great quality from the deli where everyone is nice and attentive.

Completely sold on this place. A corner grocery from yesteryear. Friendly folks. Loved by the locals. Beer and wine too. We arrived before dinner as people were picking up meats for dinner. Marinated steak tips for us, and homemade sausage for breakfast. So much better than what one would find at the grocery store. An essential part of Southie culture.

Used to be my favorite place to buy any- and every-thing. It was like my refrigerator. Their butcher shop cut to order meats, deli items, homemade chicken as well as prepared potato and pasta salad could not be beat. Steak tips were legendary. Milk, bread and eggs were supremely fresh. Specialty items were abound and the best of the best. NOT ANYMORE. Meats are inedible and bread is old. Nothings fresh and in fact, most everything is posted out-of-date. GROSS.
