Second time at Joyee's at a different location. Loved the northern style "tofu brains" (savory soft tofu with gravy and drizzle of sesame paste). Glad to find cold cut pork knuckles at a restaurant in SD. Family was surprised how big the wonton soup was, thick skin wontons so watch out.And we also ordered the steamed fish which we had at the other location and loved, can't go wrong.

Just randomly passed by and found this place serves breakfast on the weekends, starting 8am!There aren't many (if any) chinese/taiwanese places open this early for breakfast in North County, so this is a fine addition! There were several tables of customers here already at 9amOrdered the hot sweetened soymilk, fried donut, and a pork rice roll To Go. Took about 20 minutes.Wait staff was friendly and speaks both mandarin and english. Atmosphere: The tables are spacious and noise level is moderate (still much quieter than dimsum restaurant). Modern decor with contemporary music.Taste:1. Soymilk- lightly sweetened. "Hot" was more like luke warm. Not sure if homemade or not, since I did watch them pour it out of a half-gallon grocery store jug. I don't think many places make it from scratch, but you're buying convenience.2. Fried donut- size is acceptable. Lightly salted. Inside could be fluffier. But overall not bad. 3. Pork rice roll- filling includes porksung, pickled radish, sausage, salted egg white and a very- crispy fried donut! Rice is plain but the filling is flavorful. Definitely huge and very filling. 3.5 stars.

Restaurant is clean. Good service, good food and good serving size! They use pickled ginger instead of fresh ones for Xiao long Bao Ginger, which is a bit odd to me.The pan fried chive boxes are very good. This will be my go to dumpling place in Poway!

Service is only good & attentive while certain ladies are working. Sometimes, we wait a very long time for waters or our bill while noticing other people getting more attentive service. We love coming to the Poway location & the same ladies usually remember us. We like to order way too much food & we really enjoy coming to this location for those specific ladies. We will have to get their names next time we are there. They are lovely!

Enjoyed lunch today after pickleball here at Joyee's, I tried all new items for me. The #FishFilletWithBlackBeanSauce was recommended by one of the ladies and it was delicious but had a lot of bones. My favorite was the #PorkAndGreenOnionFriedBun which will have me coming here for more #Xiaolongbao was very soupy and tasty #GreenBeansWithGarlic and #EggPlant were perfectly prepared Service was nice, friendly and attentive. The restaurant wasn't crowded but I noticed there were a lot of to go orders.

After school, my tweenage daughter wanted buns and dumplings and this was the closest shop with the widest variety of options. Here's what she ordered for our dine -in experience:- XLB (xiao long bao): definitely a much better food experience when dining in than as take out here. My daughter liked this the best out of everything she ordered!- Pork And Shrimp Dumpling: my daughter liked these too.- Pork And Green Onion Buns: I was stuck finishing these and didn't mind- Tofu Bun: We like tofu. We like buns. This offered too much cabbage and other fillers, with little tofu. Pass- Sesame Balls: Can't go wrong ordering these tasty balls with red bean insideI completely enjoyed watching my daughter try so many different items on the menu. She looked forward to slurping soup out of her XLBs and wasn't disappointed.Service was prompt and friendly. And our orders came out quickly. The food was served hot.I found the flavors solid but not amazing. My daughter enjoyed her XLB, sesame buns, and Pork & Shrimp Dumplings. As long as my daughter enjoyed that's all that mattered to me during this visit.I'll return next time my daughter wants a quick bun and dumplings fix nearby.

My family has been coming to this location recently and said it's the best out of all their other locations. I think they have the main chef who works out of their kitchen and trains the rest of the chefs. We came over the weekend as my uncle knows the owner and Shabu Works was a two hour wait. The staff here is so welcoming and nice. It was one of the best service I've had. EVER. We ordered:Pork & green Onion fried buns: - darn good with juicy fillingSteamed pork belly with preserved greens:- salty and fatty (we liked it)Steamed Fish:- tasted hong kong style with lots of fresh green onions and gingerSteamed pork buns:- fluffy and deliciousHot & Sour soup:- satisfying but I would have preferred more sourSpicy Boiled Beef:- lots of garlic and tender beefMongolian beef:- they prepare their beef well here as this dish was again tender with tons of onionsSalt Pepper Shrimp- nicely crispy and battered Spicy Cabbage:- garlicky and freshEggplant with preserved egg:- I normally don't like preserved egg but this dish was pretty good. You can taste the smashed eggplant and the egg gave it a creamier textureWalnut Chocolate Bun:- omgggg. These are amazing!! The outside was so pillowy and the inside white chocolate was ooey and warm and so deliciousThey do get busy on weekend evenings so there can be a wait. I'd return just to try their walnut chocolate bun .

If it was just the food I was reviewing I would give it closer to 4 or 5 stars. I would recommend getting your food to go here and not dine in. It seemed like there were definitely regulars here who were getting good service but not my friend and I our first time coming. It felt like they were ignoring us honestly and we had to ask for things several times. We had to ask for utensils and they just gave us the wooden to go chopsticks instead of the ones all the other people were given. They even seated someone after us and gave them the same chopsticks as everyone else! I know it seems small but it really bothered us. They never filled our waters either but did for the other patrons. The food was very good and I will be trying the one in vista next time and ordering to go. The beef was very good and did not skimp on the entree.

This review is about the tips as well, I wrote a 13% tips, but the female waiter took my receipt and said you need to give 18%. And this is the total calculated for you. I felt like I was being robbed. I shouldn't have follow what she said, and changed to 18%. I will never come back to this place again. It is not so much about the money I had to give, it is about I felt really bad after worth, because I don't like to be robbed.
