The sushi was quite good! We enjoyed all of our rolls and felt the portions were good too. We also really liked the cocktails. Definitely some unique options for both cocktails and sushi, beyond your typical fare, which I appreciated and would come back for or to try more. The service was also good - very attentive and friendly. They were also pretty speedy which was nice as we were headed to a show afterwards. We ended up having extra time before the show because they were very efficient, but we did not feel rushed at all either. The ambiance is pretty cool by the bar. Personally I would opt for that bar area because you get awesome views of the street and the bay vs. the restaurant area seemed more cramped and lacked much of a view. The decor is classy and modern by the bar, but reminded me a little more of an Italian restaurant or banquet hall towards the back. Would definitely return and do bar area seating!

Husband and I were homesick for Asian food. I enjoyed an udon and a couple of shared rolls. The service is quick for 2 people, anything bigger you should come early or make a reservation - especially if you have children.

This place made me no longer have sushi as my top food anymore. Savage, but... it just wasn't that great! Regular rice with seaweed and ingredients that didn't really speak to me. All that for a crazy expensive price. Just wasn't worth it. Would've rather gotten grocery sushi. That at least has flavor. The Seattle roll was completely flat tasting. No oomph. The best thing was the meat dish we got. Delicious. The best roll was the cheapest funny enough. Fine service. Nice atmosphere inside. The food though, not it.

Been here 3 times I think and it never disappoints. Good for date night or a group dinner! This time we came for a bday dinner with a group of 9. We ordered 2 apps and 5-6 rolls I think and hot sake and we were all decently full. Really can't go wrong with any roll or entrees. Service was good. And you have to call to make a reservation if it's for a group for more than 6 people. Definitely recommend and would come back!

It was so good we canceled our reservation elsewhere the following night and came back for round two. I think about this sushi once a day since I've had it. I went for sushi somewhere else since and the entire time compared it to Japonessa Sushi, it didn't even come close. To this day, hands down the best sushi I've had in the country. I was a travel nurse for 5 years all over the U.S., so that is saying something!! I'd list what I got here to review it for you, but honestly it was all so amazing it doesn't even matter what you order. Pro tip: happy hour sushi

Located near Pike Place, this restaurant is one of the best sushi restaurants in the greater Seattle area. The vibe of the restaurant was warm, cozy, and classy. At total capacity, it can be a little tricky to have a conversation, but we made it work without yelling across the table ahah. We loved our server; they were very kind and provided excellent recommendations for ordering food and drinks. We ordered the Japonessa Omakase, Seven Spice Tuna Tataki, Sasquatch roll, Tres Diablo roll, and Super Bad Boy roll. When the food arrived, we were immediately astonished by the presentation of it and could tell that everything would taste fantastic. The fish tasted fresh, and the combination of the sauces in the Tuna Tataki exceeded my expectations. The Omakase was super delicious, and the variety they gave was pretty cool. All the sushi rolls tasted fairly balanced, with no ingredient overpowering the other. The overall dining experience was excellent, and I will dine again at Japonessa. I highly recommend making reservations instead of walking in to save yourself a wait.

Japonessa was AMAZING! Went with a group of my friends and we split into 2 tables which was fine. The inside is very classy, will definitely have to come back for a date when I'm back in Seattle. Our server poured water into our glasses and left a full carafe of water at our table. We got to order our food right away and the food came out pretty fast. The fastest were the appetizers and sashimi. The sashimi is SO worth. They gave really thick, marbled pieces, it was so good! Our sushi rolls came out pretty fast as well. The chorizo ramen came out last but it was really good and super filling! I absolutely loved the pork belly and noodles that came in the kimchi hot pot. Our group had an amazing time and will definitely come back again!

Conveniently located downtown with street parking all around, I parked right out front and walked into a well lit, clean and quiet establishment. I met my party hassle free and was greeted by our server immediately. The service is great, our waiter was very attentive and everything came timely throughout our visit.I had an Old Fashioned, which was surprisingly well made. Theirs comes smoked which is a great table presentation and aromatic. All in all it was very balanced. Now what we came for- the sushi! Very fresh with enough options for everyone. There are also no sushi and cooked options for those who are very opposed to raw fish. I introduced a friend to sushi so we had cooked rolls- shrimp tempura, Spanish Lover, and Seattle Crunch. All were well made, firm and delectable. I recommend a visit.

SUSHI & MOCKTAILS!!Ambiance: The interior is sleek and modern- perfect for catching up with friends and taking cute lunch date pics! Side note: the bathrooms are super clean and bougie too lol.Service: Our waiter was friendly and made sure to answer all of our questions! This was also the first sushi place I've ever been to where he asked us if we wanted any complimentary sauces on the side.Food: I would recommend both the GREEN DECADENCE (vegetarian) and the WICKED SENSATION. They were both light and flavorful. This place also has other veggie options so feel free to bring your non-carnivorous friends. We ordered some mocktails too and they were both very pleasant!Price: It's pretty average for a sushi place! They have happy hour too so take advantage of that. I would say it was about $60 for 2 rolls and 2 drinks.Wait: Most of the tables were full when we arrived but we were seated right away and there was barely a wait for our meal!
