A breakfast place that serves lunch items but breakfast is what they are known for. Closes around 2:30 PM. The restaurant is packed even on a weekday. There is a reason. The food. The restaurant itself for me is out of the way. Alpine is for most a good drive unless you live that far east. Well worth the drive though. The decor is that of an old wooden house in the country. Lots of the items that decorate the outer and interior remind me of the old west. It's a friendly, family type of atmosphere. A perfect outing for a meal with loved ones. The menu has all the hometown favorites. This was my second time here. I couldn't resist ordering the chicken fried steak. The same thing I ordered the last time. An oversized tenderized steak cooked perfectly with a golden crispy coating outside smothered in peppery light brown gravy. Served with two eggs and with some bread options. I went with a biscuit. Such a flavorful satisfying meal. No one leaves hungry here. Large portions and the best thing. Not very pricey to dine here. Your wallet will thank you. Support local businesses especially the good ones. Janet's Montana Cafe is awesome. Eat here.

Good food, good service, GREAT ambiance. Expect it to be crowded, for there to be limited parking, and for there to be a wait to be seated. There are other restaurants with good food and better pricing, but Janet's definitely offers a special something with their friendly staff, delicious baked goods, and atmosphere. This is one of those places I try to take people when they have never been to Alpine. They are known for their breakfast, but also serve a delicious lunch menu. I'm also obsessed with their dirty chai latte, served in a cozy oversized mug.

Janet's Montana Cafe is a popular family restaurant in Alpine boasting an extensive menu and a rustic cabinesque atmosphere. This is a great spot for brunch, pie, or a post-hike meal, ___F O O D___Country Fried Steak + Eggs + Hash Browns: Not much to say about this. Checks all the requirements of a good country fried steak. The steak was tender, crispy, and smothered in a creamy gravy. It was flavorful. Very generous portion. I would order this again. Spinach Omelette + Home Fries. The omelette had spinach, cheese, bacon, and mushrooms. Again, the portions were generous. It was hefty and sturdy. Personally, I think their omelletes are so gargantuan that they have to leave it on the stove for a bit longer than I like. I prefer my omelettes to be fluffy and tender. The home fries were ok, but I'd probably be happier with their hashbrowns. This order came with a choice of toast, pancakes, fruit, etc. I went with the pancakes (2). They were light, fluffy, and could've been a meal on their own. I liked this, but i liked the country fried steak and eggs more.Pie: So I ordered a whole pecan pie from them once. The pecan pie filling was appetizing, but I'm not entirely sure they made the crust themselves. It wasn't nearly as tasty or tender as I had hoped and it looked too uniform/perfect. Thankfully, all of their other pies I've tried have been so much better. We had key lime (graham crust), boysenberry (traditional crust), and chocolate peanut butter cream (oreo crust). All of those were much better and seemed more homemade. Milkshakes: Thick. Perfect on a hot day. They only have vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate. We thought their vanilla was perfectly fine, but the chocolate was decidedly better with the generous amount of chocolate syrup. ___S E R V I C E___-Service with a smile. -Took a while for someone to take our order. We had to flag someone down.Still, fairly quick considering how busy they were. ___E X T R A I N F O___-This place is quite popular. Parking in the lot can be tight. -There is additional parking on the street.

My friends and I stumbled upon Janet's Montana Cafe on the way back from a camping trip and what a pleasant surprise! The restaurant was incredibly homey, with a great menu, affordable prices, and some knockout breakfast dishes. We were fortunate enough to walk right up on a Sunday morning and were given a seat on the patio, so we could bring our dog. There were a ton of pastries and baked goods on display and they all looked amazing. I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast with scrambled eggs and sausage. A lot of brunch spots serve "cinnamon roll French toast" that's just seasoned / sugared like a cinnamon roll, but this one was made with the actual pastry from the bakery - it was incredible. Definitely homemade. Even the side of eggs was delicious, perfectly seasoned. The portions were very generous and we all left with leftovers (ok, I didn't, the french toast was too good not to inhale in one sitting!). I only wish we lived closer to this place, but I guess it would be dangerous if we did!

We stopped for breakfast on our way back from San Diego to Arizona. We walked right in , we did not have a wait so this was already a good sign. We were immediately served with coffee and drinks by Rosa. Coffee was good , just good old fashioned coffee .Pedro was our server and explained the menu and gave suggestions. The place has a country vibe and was clean, charming , and welcoming. The dishes exceeded our expectations and are very generous with their portions . If you are passing Alpine and in need of breakfast- make this stop ! Highly recommend.

Friends!! On our way home from San Diego to Arizona we stopped in Alpine to have breakfast at Janet's! This was our first time here, and the experience did not disappoint. We walked into a cozy eatery, equipped with wooden walls ver reminiscent of my time in Alaska. Pedro and Rosa greeted us and very quickly took care of our coffee deficit, which was heavenly. The food portions were very large, hot, tasty, and beyond our expectations. The service was friendly, very country style, and perfectly met the expectations of a home-made country cooking experience. The food pictures attached to my review accurately represent the "taste" one would expect. Chef's Kiss, thank you Alpine and Janet's for the perfect departure from San Diego!! Highly recommend.Pete

Cute little cabin lodge style restaurant like in the snowy mountains. Except it doesn't snow around here.It has a nice parking lot with indoor and outdoor seating. Not that large of a dining room which I expect it to have a wait on busy days.To me, the food was average. It's the service and ambiance that takes it over the top. Super friendly and attentive.I'm a sucker for eggs Benedict and got the Egg Benedict country style - choice of hash brown, fruit or home fries. It's a sausage patty served on a super soft square biscuit smothered in gravy. The gravy is not salty like other places and has the right thickness.Country fried steak - choice of hash brown, fruit or home fries. Choice of toast or upgrade to biscuit and gravy. We upgraded. We also got Hazelnut mocha and peppermint mocha. Make sure you stir evenly because the syrups are stuck at the bottom. The desserts and pies looked so tasty but we were stuffed!

Went with a friend and her dog for a snow day in Mt Laguna. On the way back to San Diego, we stopped at Janet's for lunch. It was one of the few restaurants my friend saw that had an outdoor patio that allowed dogs.We have been to Janet's a year or so ago and the food and service is great. Fair price, good portions and great service. I had the country fried steak and eggs (took home the yummy, housemade pumpkin muffin) and my friend had a club sandwich with fries. The sandwich was so big my friend took home 3/4 of it!

I ordered scrambled eggs/bacon/hash browns (asked for it extra crispy but was super disappointed that it was not at all crispy. It was burnt.) and the strawberry waffles. The portions were big, but the food was extremely mediocre! Husband had the country fried steak and it was just.. o k. The meat tasted off- he even said it himself and he is NOT a picky eater. When we were disappointed by the first round of hash browns, we gave them a second chance by asking them for another order of CRISPY hash browns since the first one wasn't, and they just served us soggy hash browns. To say we were disappointed was an understatement! I read other reviews to specifically request for the hash browns extra crispy and that stood out to us which is why we came here. The place had a good amount of people flowing, the parking sucked since the lot was packed. We opted to sit outside since it looked crowded inside, but soon realized this was a mistake because of the flies . Won't come again! Sorry.

We always stop here on our way back to Iowa from visiting in San Diego. Breakfast is one of the best with generous servings. Recently had the fruit crepes - delicious. Husband always orders the half sized biscuits and gravy - quite a lot and also delicious. Coffee is great too. Neat atmosphere and friendly service.
