Paid another visit to Uptown Kitchen and Bar. If you arrive and there's a wait, just know it's 100% worth it. All the servers are top notch, and I've never had anything but excellent food there. The atmospheric is clean, casual and always lively during brunch. Always generous portions and reasonably priced. The food...excellent. I've lived in the south since 2004 and I've always thought Chicken and Waffles just sounded like a mistake. This weekend, I decided I trusted Uptown enough to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. Either the waffle or the chicken tenders would have stood on their own. When this combination was eaten together with their syrup, just divine, stick to your ribs, comfort food of the highest order. I'll be back, I'll wait if needed, I'll sit at the bar, I'll sit alone, this place is awesome. I highly recommend you give them a try.

I was immediately disappointed as my wife, and I exited our vehicle and walked into the recent cloud of Marijuana smoke. We walked in and added our names to the waiting list. We then walked outside and sat at a table on the patio. While we were looking at the reviews, trying to zero in on our meal choices, another guest walked by and sat behind us. And once again, thank you my wife and I were inundated by the strong odor of Marijuana. At this point, we were sickened by the odor and lost interest in having brunch here. We canceled our reservation and left the premises.

Came here looking for more vegan options in Jacksonville, FL. but, for the price, I would not suggest this to other vegans looking for brunch. We went to Uptown Kitchen early on a Sunday morning. I choose this place while looking for some more vegan options in the city. I saw a lot of people talking about the tofu scramble they have so that's what we went in for. I also ordered their standard Bloody Mary, and some fried green tomatoes for the table, asking them to hold the remoulade. The fried green tomatoes were fine. They didn't have a lot of flavor, but they were crispy and were fine with some hot sauce on top. I wish the tomatoes were seasoned with some salt and pepper before frying them, I think it would have elevated this dish. I think the remoulade probably elevates the dish but I wouldn't know. The Bloody Mary was tasty but the pours feel a little weak. Despite that, the drink had a perfect heat balance. I got the spicy one. My partner and I got the tofu scramble. I make these a lot at home so I will admit that I can be a little critical. However, we were truly disappointed by the scramble. I know tofu can be difficult to work with but the flavor was bland and the tofu was not drained well before cooking. It made this dish very watery. It was advertised as turmeric seasoned but I'm thinking that's the only seasoning in the scramble. I would have loved to taste a little nutritional yeast, white pepper, paprika and curry powder in there. It would really punch up the whole dish, along with pressing the tofu before scrambling it. The veggies in the scramble were fresh but I think the tomatoes contributed to the dish being far too watery. Additionally, the menu online boasted tempeh and avocado with the scramble. We didn't get either but they did include a guacamole that honestly tasted like Sabra and was not good. I tried a little on the toast that came with this dish and called it after that. Definitely disappointing but it could easily be improved! We both got the breakfast potatoes as our side and these were by far the star of the show. I loved these. They were perfectly cooked and crispy and well seasoned. The ambiance is fine. It's an open floor plan where you can watch the kitchen work. It's going to be loud. There is also out door seating available. Not much to write home about service-wise. It want great but it wasn't poor. As a vegan, we probably won't come back on our own. The omnivore crowd seemed happy with it but if you're looking for a vegan brunch spot this isn't it.

So first the bad:After waiting several minutes to be seated on a fairly busy Thursday morning around 9:30am, we waited another 10 minutes before our waitress came by and took our orders including our drinks. It took another 12 minutes to get our coffees. (I don't care how busy you are, if you can't sit down and get your drink within 10 minutes, I'm probably not coming back.). Within minutes of receiving our coffee, our meals came out so we didn't even get a refill. Now the good:The food was very good. I ordered the "Two Egg Breakfast" ($12.00), which was 2 eggs over medium, bacon (for my meat), wheat toast, and for my side I chose their "Gouda Grits". My daughter ordered their "Avocado Toast" ($9.00), which was one egg, tomatoes, and Avocado spread over Italian bread with EVOO. I tried a couple of bites and it was delicious! Like I said, the food was very good. Also good:The employees were all very nice and apologized several times for taking so long. The setting is relaxed and laid back and the bar near both entrances / exits seems like a great place to sit and relax aside from the main dining room. Im going with 4 Stars because of the food and employees. It's definitely worth checking out. Hours are 8am - 3pm daily except for Monday when they're closed.

Second time visiting and it wasn't as good as last time. The egg rolls were delicious. The blackened catfish was well seasoned but the collards were not the best. I loved my spinach salad. The waiter was prompt and helpful. The ambiance is nice with good music playing in the background. Maybe this is just a hit or miss. I will come try again

We expected a wait since we arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday and we pleasantly surprised at the option to be immediately be seated at the bar. Many others seemed to choose the same which made for a very busy bartender. Despite that, our bartender, Ryan A., provided spectacular service. First and foremost, I have a new favorite sangria in Jacksonville. It was also a very generous sized glass. I decided to try something different and ordered the tofu scramble with fruit and a biscuit. I enjoyed the tofu scramble but it was bland. The veggies and tofu were cooked perfectly but the scramble needed added seasonings. The fruit was great, cut into small, bite-sized pieces that were the best and sweetest pieces of fruit. The biscuit was also delicious, and for me, didn't need butter, which is just the way I like it. I also tasted a bite of my husband's "home fries", which were perfectly cooked potato cubes that were crispy on the outside and light on the inside without feeling overly fried. Wow on the those potatoes too. We can't wait to return and try some lunch options
