Uncle Gene's Soul And Seafood Cafe

I gave 2 stars only because the customer service was good but the food was a 2 out of 5, I had the large oxtails rice Mac and cheese and potato salad, the oxtails was small and kinda chewy the gravy was salty and the portion I got for a large was very small, I think they forgot I paid 25 dollars for it large, the rice was drowning in gravy and the potato salad looked strange and the Mac and cheese was the best thing on the plate

I tried this location visiting from GA, the food was good. The staff was very nice and gave great service. The building is small, it appears most orders are to go, so keep that in mind. I had oxtails which could have been cooked longer and with more seasoning. They was not pulling off the bone. My husband enjoyed the shrimp and grits. If you are in the area check them out.

If you're looking for soul food at a good price without waiting in a long line for service, I recommend Uncle Gene's. I called ahead to pick up my food and it was waiting on me when I got there a few minutes later. Fast service and great taste are what I look for in a restaurant. Add in good prices and it's definitely a winning combination

If you scan through the reviews, Uncle Gene's is all over the board. There are those that are singing it's praises as a "hidden gem" and then those who are...well....not so enthralled. As much as I love and adore Soul Food and discovering new places, I do know that every now and then I'm going to come across a not so favorable experience. Enter Uncle Gene's Soul and Seafood Café. The Scene: First off.....YIKES. To the right as you walk in there a two white, large, and dirty coolers piled against the wall. The floor...the walls...the everything... needed a good scrubbing....as in....the all-day kind. Lighting was present but barely, fortunately I was wearing my glasses so I could see the menu behind the counter. Maintenance is clearly not top priority here, which made me a little apprehensive about the food.Eats: I went with my Soul Food staple, the Fried Chicken Dinner with Yellow Rice, Collard Greens, Mac 'n' Cheese, and Cornbread. It's made fresh, so I didn't mind the wait. A few people stopped in to pick up orders they had called in....I totally understood why they wouldn't want to dine in and take in the.....scenery. Even I didn't want to stay, but I did. I sat at my sticky table and ate my dinner because fried chicken, to me, is best when eaten right away. The verdict? The chicken was crispy but lacked any amount of spice, I wasn't offered gravy over my rice so it was dull and drab, the collard greens were decent, albeit a little salty, the Mac 'n' cheese was nothing to write home about, and the cornbread was dry as a desert. There was not one notably good or great thing that stood out as I ate. It would be best described as....Soul Food without the Soul.*shrugs* What more can I say other than I'll pass on a return visit. Too many other Soul Food joints out there that are just downright better. As for all the positive reviews, to each his own, but I simply...can't concur. Best home cooked meals ever!! I wish they actually had a all you can eat type buffet! That's needed here

I CANT GO BACK BECAUSE I NEED TO FIT MY CLOTHES. The cornbread Dressing, okra , mac n cheese......had me inhaling it when I wanted so bad to stop. I really loved it. I look forward to all the food I am holding tight in the fridge. That I wrapped up so carefully so I can reheat properly when I get hungry again. About an hour. ( fish sandwich, and I haven't tried the sweet potatoes yet!). I'm excited. I honestly could eat the cornbread dressing and okra as a meal. It's my favorite! peace, love, and good FOOD. Jax's!

Horrible, Horrible, horrible customer service from the lady that finally noticed I was heading toward the door. I was afraid to even try the food. Obviously they don't need customers since she runs them away. Excessive cursing.

I must say I'm highly disappointed. I Use to go to this place all the time in 2020 before it had a kitchen fire and I never received such little portions of food for $25 . Definitely not worth it . I'm not sure if it's under new management or what . But the greens had a after taste like it was soaking in majority water. It's such a disappointment for a place that was once my favorite soul food to give me such a bad experience....

I have tried to support this business, but I now know that Uncle Gene's is not worthy of any support. Gene is the most unreasonable owner I have ever dealt with, period. He will NOT replace your order when THEY get it wrong or when they serve you spoiled food. Yes, spoiled food, I got the chitterlings dinner and it was spoiled, sour, and not edible. When I called Uncle Gene's they were not surprised, meaning they knew they served bad food, I was told they would replace my order. When I was ready for my replacement order Gene said I needed to bring back the dinner the same day. How could I come back the same day when they were closing when I called him. This is not the first time I have had problems with this hole in the wall. I ordered food to go for 4 people, I later discovered all 4 were missing cake and cornbread. One of the senior citizen called and spoke with Gene, the owner, he spoke very rude to this 82 year women, asking her why she did't come back yesterday which was a Monday knowing he is not open on Monday's. I called him and he was rude and nasty he asked me what I want him to do, I said give them the items they paid for!!! When you treat older people that way you will reap what you sow.
