The General Public House

We were served in an orderly manner, and we were all very pleased with our meals! . The only issue was that it was my birthday, and my friend had to speak with the server three times for the celebratory dessert to finally be served.

I agree with the overall Yelp rating of 3.8 stars. We went here for our office Christmas party. The decor was festive, and our group of over 20 was able to sit together. Right off the bat, our server listed about 5 things on the menu that they were out of that evening. However, everything that I wanted was on the menu. The appetizers were tasty. I tried a bite of the bruschetta, which included heirloom tomatoes and beets, for a unique twist. I also had their cornbread which was super yummy. For dishes I had four sides since I'm a vegetarian, and they didn't really have any veggie-friendly main entrees that I could see. I had sautéed garlic spinach, jalapeño creamed corn, Mac & cheese, and grilled asparagus. The Mac & Cheese wasn't anything to write home about, but the veggies were cooked to perfection and very nicely seasoned. My favorite was the jalapeño creamed corn. Some of colleagues who ordered steak or grilled chicken said that the grilled part tasted like chemicals like the grill hadn't been cleaned properly. My husband said his Ahi tuna steak with garlic risotto and sautéed spinach was very tasty. Overall, I think this was a good pick for our office celebration.

First time visiting the General Public House. We walked in on Saturday around 5pm. Plenty of available seats. Nice laid back atmosphere. Our waitress was extremely pleasant and fun to talk to. We tried the BLT spread which was delicious. The bread for the spread was ok but the waitress let us know they are trying out a couple different options for the bread to go with that spread. We also go the lobster bisque and that was phenomenal. For dinner we ordered the prosciutto stuffed chicken (it was a big portion) and also ordered the redfish dinner. The fish and chicken were cooked to perfection. We finished it off with the peanut butter pie! Great date night out and we will be back.

The General Public House has two locations; Winter Springs and New Smyrna Beach. I haven't had a chance to visit the New Smyrna Beach location but, there is no need. I was told they have the same old menu from when they first opened in Winter Springs. How boring is that?!My husband and I haven't been to the Winter Springs location for quite sometime because like I mentioned earlier, it's the same ole, same ole; however, we've discovered that they closed temporarily. We think they may be remodeling. We're going to check this out and also find out if they will be changing the menu (at least somewhat)Also, besides the hum drum menu, their service really has room for improvement!In the near future I'll give an update on this restaurant.

Need to improve cleanliness, how to make a martini and food quality.... Better places to eat right on the same road.

Amazing service! Food! The new menu is amazing! The staff is attentive, and the bartenders know what they are doing!

We had a reservation for 7pm. We arrived and there were at least 6 tables open that could accommodate our group of 4. The hostess was dismissive and told us 10 minutes. Okay - no problem, we thought. After standing for an additional 20 minutes, i asked her why we could not be seated at one of the 5 open tables (that had been open the entire time we were waiting). She said 5 minutes. I waited another 5 and asked her again. She finally admitted it was a problem with the kitchen. At that point, I looked at all the tables - none of them had food. We left. Completely disappointing experience. There are better options in NSB. Don't waste your time on this one.

We ordered take-out dinner for 8 on Christmas Eve and had an amazing experience. Even though the restaurant was fully booked, the owner and staff were extremely kind, friendly and accommodating. Better still, the food was wonderful!! It was an excellent experience, and we look forward to dining with them again soon.-Sam

We had the best ribs ever! Everything we ordered was delicious and they even had live music by an amazing local musician Faith Alene! The restaurant was decorated beautifully and put us in the Christmas mood!

Your hostess should not be at the front of the house. Arrived without a reservation and there were plenty of empty tables. We were told 10min as tables were being cleaned. That was our first sign to leave. We saw that nobody had food and probably short staffed...her attitude is finally what made us leave. Really want this place to last, but if that's how you receive us locals, we won't be back. Too many other options in town. There's another comment here from last night from someone who had a very similar experience.
