I recall the first time that I visited this museum with my roommate was in 2019. Our first visit was amazing. There is so much Naval submarine history to learn about within this small museum. I found everything inside to be very fascinating because I'm a Navy and Army veteran, and I love learning about Naval history as well. If you're on active duty Navy, Navy Reserves, or retired Navy, then I highly suggest visiting this type of museum. I plan on visiting again this year as time and weather permits.

A great place to go to learn about the silent service. This wonderful museum, dedicated to preserving the history of the distinguished US Submarine Force, is located on St Mary's W street and right off the St Mary's River. It is right on the street and open to the public for a fee. It is a wonderful place for those interested in naval history and technology. The museum features a collection of artifacts and exhibits that showcase the history of underwater warfare.Visitors can get a glimpse into what life was like for the crew during long deployments in hostile waters. There are two floors to the museum. The lower floor has the gift shop and the earlier boat memorabilia. There is a periscope that can actually see outside. The museum's exhibits include informative displays on the history of submarines, the development of submarine technology, and the role of submarines in various conflicts. You can also watch a short film on a loop that describes the life aboard submarines and the narrator does a good job of explaining what it was like to people not accustomed to submarines. The second floor has lots of artifacts from the newer submarines. If you were on a boat you can request to see the file on your boat. There are many pieces of information in the files from stock footage to articles about the boats. The staff was wonderful, friendly, and helpful. They have done a good job of trying to organize and preserve all the history to present it to the public and to those who served. Overall, the Submarine Museum in St Mary's, Georgia, is a great destination for anyone interested in the history of the US Navy's submarine service. The museum's exhibits provide a unique and educational experience that is well worth a visit.

This is why we came to St Marys- my hubby is a huge history buff and loves military history! Tons of history to see in a very small space- which fits the submarine lifestyle! Upstairs has a video playing with interesting tidbits about life in a sub and more display cases and an extensive library! The stairs leading up has a great collection of battle flags- my hubby was especially impressed as he said these were hard to find! There is a tiny store at the front- where you pay your admission fee and can pick up some souvenirs or military swag~ Go NAVY! I did like the interactive area- there was a family with small children playing when we first came in- but before we left I did manage to sit behind the periscope which gives you a unique view of the waterfront outside! Yessss~ best part for me- lol- yuppers, I am a big kid!

Small (no pun intended) two story building with artifacts about submarines. They have a lot of pictures, newspaper articles, uniforms, replicas made by private individuals and such on the history of submarines. The coolest thing may have been the recreation of a sub center with telescope focused on the St. Marys River for visitors to see out if.

Awesome museum full of great history!Cons: small VERY hot Young girl behind counter watching Charmed and barely paying attention to you as you buy your tickets.Pros: lots of memorabilia, pictures, models, a working periscope. I could go on and on. This place is full of history. Although my husband wasn't a submariner (he was a machinist mate on the big ships) I decided to stop in and see some local history. It was well worth the trip. It was very cheap also. I don't remember how much exactly but it was less than $10. It didn't take long to go through the museum. A perfect ending would be lunch in the park. I went by myself so I grabbed a snack and walked around the waterfront enjoying the fresh air.

Tons of great history here, tied to the local community of submariners for generations. There is a working periscope inside the building, in which you can take a peek around downtown Saint Marys. There are tons of great artifacts from our nation's first submarines. Insignia, uniforms, equipment, etc. You can sit behind a simulated helm and "pilot" a sub (imagination required). If you're over 99, you get in free! The place could use a better A/C system, it can be very warm on summer afternoons.
