I'm a super fan of southern soul food which makes it hard for me to give this food truck a 3 but it was just maybe an off night? They came to our neighborhood but weren't on the normal schedule (I noticed 2 trucks didn't show up). I ordered the whiting fish sandwich combo without tarter sauce. I got the combo with sauce. Hubby ordered the catfish sandwich, daughter ordered the hamburger and son got the hot dog combo. We all agreed that it was just ok. The breading on the sandwiches was just okay but mostly bland. The breading tasted store bought but bland. The fries were good and seasoned well. I don't eat bread but ordered the sandwich as that was my only option for whiting fish (also breaded). But after receiving the sandwich with tarter I was only able to eat the ends of the fish. I miss my old soul food truck from TN so I was willing to change up my eating to enjoy a great fish dish...I was disappointed.

Probably a 3.67 (why the heck doesn't Yelp have fractions yet? Those percentage points matter!) But they have potential to become an actual 4 or better.Fairly new to our city's expanding food truck scene, Southern Twang doesn't seem to know exactly what it is. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be traditional Southern cuisine or some type of "fusion", but the food was tasty and that's always a good start. I had the Farm Burger, and it was extremely flavorful. Well seasoned patty, with bacon, pickled onion, goat cheese, and a sweet/spicy pepper jam. The fries were also surprisingly good. I've come to accept that most places just treat fries as an afterthought, but Southern Twang did 'em the right way: hot, crispy and well seasoned without being too salty. Despite the righteous burger/fries they offered up, there is room for improvement. The menu is pretty confusing and seems like it could be condensed or cleaned up somehow (3 pages stapled together). I actually went there to get the beef bowl (which I assume is Asian-inspired) that I saw a pic of on their FB page only to find out that it is a breakfast dish. I'll chalk these missteps up to them just getting starting, and hope that next I visit thay the menu is a bit more cohesive.

Got the Farm Buger- oh man. This thing is the bomb! Goat cheese, bacon, some kind of apple butter jam sauce and onions on a brioche bun. Really fresh tasing ingredients and just overall excellently done! Can't wait until they come back to base again! Really great job, hats off to the owners for having a lot of attention to detail. Thanks for the outstanding lunch!!!

2.5 stars would probably be a more accurate rating, but I was barely able to eat my meal. I got the lemon pepper chicken wings and a small coleslaw, which came out to about $13. I had a really hard time eating the wings due to the overwhelming amount of sauce drowning each wing. Perhaps a different sauce flavor could be a safer bet, but the lemon pepper flavor was so strong that all I could think about was the overpowering tartness. The only way I was able to eat these wings was by wiping them down with a paper towel to remove some of the sauce first. I asked for a side of ranch, which I saw was added to my order, but discovered once I got home that it was forgotten. The coleslaw was decent - hint of onion and almond slivers, as well as a general helping of carrots mixed in with the cabbage.

I had the fried grouper with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The tartar sauce was so good. The macaroni and cheese had more white cheese and although different than usual it tasted better than the usual macaroni and cheese; one of the best mac and cheeses I have ever had. These people need to get a restaurant. Collard greens had no pork (or meat) which is a plus for me and they were prepared very well (very tasty vegan dish). I wish they had grilled or steamed grouper.

After driving to "Shut 'Em Down" which is no longer in business, I drove 5 additional minutes to this one. It wasn't my night to find Soul food. This business no longer exists and the space is now a construction business.
