Food 10Service 10Ambiance 9Purple Roots Restaurant is my go-to spot whenever I visit Jacksonville for work. After a long week, it's the treat I always look forward to.My favorite dish is the kare-kare with oxtail and pork belly. The portions are generous--definitely more than enough for one person--so I get to enjoy it multiple times. The flavors are rich and comforting, perfect for anyone who craves authentic Filipino food.Although I've never dined in at the restaurant due to being too tired after a long day, the ambiance is warm, ethnic, and distinctly Filipino. It's a great place for big groups, families, or even smaller gatherings. I've noticed a mix of families enjoying meals together, groups of friends hanging out, and even a few date nights when I've stopped by to pick up my food. The menu features traditional Filipino dishes with a slight twist--enough to keep things unique but not so much that it strays from the comforting, home-style flavors I love. The staff is always smiling, friendly, and welcoming, which adds to the experience. And quite frankly, the food is just delicious. Masarap!Whether you're in the mood for a family meal, a gathering with friends, or simply craving authentic Filipino food, Purple Roots Restaurant is a must-visit. I highly recommend it!

The ladies working the front were extremely helpful, this was our first time dining at Purple Roots. The interior is cute.I had the pumpkin curry with shrimp. Spouse had the breakfast Sigsing plate. The taste of the pumpkin curry was great. The dish was nice and hot (temperature wise). However, the chunks of pumpkin was a bit hard to chew, I have never eaten raw chunks of pumpkin, but I imagine it wouldn't be much different. The shrimp was the whole shrimp, head and all, deep fried and a bit overdone. It was served with two large scoops of Jasmin rice.Spouse had the Sigsing dish whoch had a sunny side up egg. The yolk was runny but the bottom was way over cooked. The meatloaf and rice was cold. The pork in the plate was small, diced cubes, and found two small bone pieces in the pork. The skewered chicken was really good.Even with a military discount and adding a tip, the dinner was $70+ for two. The portions of the breakfast plate were a bit smaller than we expected for the price.

My husband surprised me with a date night at Purple Roots, knowing I've been craving Filipino food. This gem in Jacksonville did not disappoint! The restaurant's design immediately transports you to the Philippines. The wallpaper is a visual feast, plastered with photos of Filipino memories - from historical events to famous personalities and popular shows. These thoughtful details made me feel at home and heightened my anticipation for the meal.We ordered some classics:Chicken Lumpia: Could have been seasoned more, but the sweet chili sauce compensated nicely.Shrimp Pancit: Good flavor with a citrusy twist. Came with 5 large shrimps.Chicken Adobo: The star of the show! Even my husband, who's not usually a fan, loved it. The sauce was thicker and sweeter than traditional versions, perfect for pouring over rice. Bonus points for using boneless, skinless chicken.Halo Halo: A delightful finish to the meal. Served with ube ice cream, ube jam, and a glass drizzled with ube syrup. While I'm always biased about "authentic Filipino food," I appreciate that Filipino cuisine in the US often has its own flair. Purple Roots strikes a good balance between tradition and innovation.Ordering is done via terminals at the entrance. We only waited 5-10 minutes for our food, which was impressive! You can also arrange a "boodle fight" for larger groups (call ahead to order).Prices leans more on the higher side, but the experience paid off! Purple Roots offers a delicious taste of the Philippines with a modern twist. The attention to detail in both the decor and the food makes for a memorable dining experience. We'll definitely be back!

My first time trying out Purple Roots. I must say I truly enjoyed the beauty of this small restaurant. They are going into their third year of business. The quality of service and food will definitely keep them around from my perspective. The history of the Philippines is all over the walls and it's evident they are proud. Now I love Filipino food so I'm going to judge it harshly it it's not done right. This restaurant was on point! I'm glad I tried the chicken adobo and Pancit. I can't wait to return for some other fan favorites! Nora, my waiter, was extremely helpful and my service was spot on.

I was so excited to come here! I love my Filipino food. Our waitress was so kind and informative explaining the menu and how to order off their menu kiosk. My favorite was the ube cake and ice cream. So delicious. Food came out super quick too. I also love the wall paper and décor representing Filipino culture!

I never knew this place existed until my friends suggested it. There are kiosks to order your food rather than waitstaff. The place is beautifully decorated with pictures and souvenirs from the Philippines. The food was very delicious! I had pork lumpia and a whole fish (took leftovers home). For dessert I originally wanted the Black Forest cake, but I was informed they were out, so I chose some other chocolatey dessert with a side of Ube ice cream that made me want to find a gallon of it! Overall, this place is amazing and will definitely be going back!

First time at Purple Roots and it was everything we wanted tonight! The decorations were very elaborate, bright and reflected Filipino culture beautifully. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. Every dish we ordered was flavorful and delicious. The bbq skewers were a good appetizer, the chicken adobo entree and Isda Inihaw fish entree were also both good!! There's complimentary servings of rice which is very thoughtful. Definitely give the Buko Pandan drink a try! It's a coconut pandan drink with different jellies inside. Can't wait to come try more of the menu!
