Paws Park is a city park, but the City depends on a volunteer group and contributors for support, maintenance and improvements. They welcome extra sets of hands and any donations that might be used in raffles. That being said, I think the park is a wonderful addition to the beaches and so do most of our dogs. Used to be us locals had the beach for that, but with new rules and learning that a lot of folks don't "pick up" after their furry friends, I kinda agree with keeping them off the beach at certain times. Paws is open daily, year round, from dawn to dusk. Park weekly maintenance is performed on Thursdays, so the park may be closed part of the day, but typically reopens by 5PM. Paws Park is located in Jacksonville Beach and it doesn't have a street address. It is part of a larger park (Wingate Park) which has its own perks that I will write about separately. You can use 605 Penman Rd. S., for Mapquest or your GPS. Paws Park will be on the right just before you reach 605 Penman Rd. S. Right past the Police Station. They have separate area's for large and for small dogs. Shade and water are provided too. Seating for the dog's people is optional. It is a favorite for us who live out this way.

Highly over priced member only park. People here seem to think highly of themselves. The park is not monitored and people frequently let themselves in without membership. If your dog is social and likes to go meet all other drugs slightly aggressively, you will get cold looks and ignored.

Meh. Not the greatest park I've seen, but quite a bit of space. PAID PARK $50/year. One small dog area, one larger dog area.

Oh my gosh, this park was SO much fun! We went for the Howl-oween Festival, but we played in the dog park too. They have a big dog park and a little dog park. The big dog park had all kinds of bulldogs, rottweilers, mastiffs, etc running around. There's a pond in there too.The little dog park that we went to had pugs, chis, terriers, etc playing and running. There were benches and chairs for the mommies and daddies and the little ones could run and chase each other to their heart's content. There was a watering hole for them if they got thirsty, and shaded areas if they got tired. The people were amazingly nice and sweet to my little puppy, and she came out of her shell quick. All in all, a great experience!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Update as of 11/13/07:We recently went to another dog park (Dogwood Park, see my review)...and now I have switched this rating from 5 stars to 3. Man, I didn't know what I was missing. Paws Park, the small dog area, is just a rectangular piece of grass with a fence around it. Very boring...see my other review and you'll understand what I mean. :-)

I like this dog park a lot. I've been a member for about 4 months now. It's always clean, well kept and plenty of grass and shade. When I first signed up, paid the fee for a membership FOB I was given the choice of which area I preferred; big dogs area, little dogs, or both. I opted for both even though I knew I would rarely be visiting the big side. After a couple months my FOB stopped working altogether and I found out the city wanted members to choose which side because of a supposed bite incident.(don't know how accurate that is since every member I spoke with said they hadn't heard of any bite incidents). So I had to go to city hall to get my FOB reprogrammed. A small annoyance by no big deal.Since I've been in both sections I can talk about both. The big section surrounds a fenced off retention pond and one can walk around the pond for exercise with their dogs. There are two water stations where pups can get a drink or a cooling hose down. The grass in this section can seem a little sparse during dry season but that doesn't seem to bother the dogs. The few times I was in there most of the owners where really welcoming to my rambunctious Jack Russell but I could tell there were a couple owners who didn't like that a smaller dog was in there but I can't find fault with that I totally get it. I go to the littles sections everyday and at different times a day and I've never seen any scary incidents or any aggressive dogs in the big dog section. I think $50 a year is worth paying for a nice, well kept park for your dog to play and socialize with other friendly dogs. (Especially since I was paying $20. Per month at a membership only dog park where I used to live) I do think that there should be more for the dogs since it is a paid park like a ramp or tunnel or something fun for them. There's a wash station that can be access by anyone who goes there and that's a huge a plus. I take my dog to the under 30 lbs section just about everyday and the only thing I can complain about is I wish there were more dogs here. There's is a wonderful group of dog regulars who come everyday at around noon who I love. But anyone who comes any other time during the week is likely going to be the only one there. The grass is always well kept and clean. People clean up after their dogs in this park and I appreciate that. And as I stated above I do wish there was more than just grass and benches for the dogs like a ramp or mini agility course for them. My dog loves this park and his little friends he plays with here and that's all that matters to me.

I have been taking my dog to Paws Park off and on since it first opened in 2005, when it was just one fenced off area for all dogs. It's a nice little spot at the beach and has gained a lot of popularity over the years. I was happy to see it has thrived so much because it did have a tough time at first. Recently, as of March 3rd, it became a membership park where you have to pay $50/year and get a key fab to get in. I would definitely have no problem paying if the small dog area saw any benefits of membership but all renovations and upgrades seem to have been done to the large dog area and each area requires a separate key fab and annual cost. I really hope they plan on showing members who only utilize the small dog area (but pay the same) some more benefits soon. Overall, it's cool to have a dog park in Jax Beach and always nice to get some sun while socializing with the pups!

Small dog area is so small and has little to no real activities for dogs. It's just one long rectangle. The first time I went there my dog ran to one end & right back to the gate to get out. He was so bored. If there's no other dog in there, don't bother going. I agree that owners should have access to the large dog park too. My jack russell loves big dogs and would have so much more to do. I don't really see where my membership is going or how there are so many sponsors to thank. I really hope I'm not just paying for the lake in the big dog park that's fenced in with a fountain.

Closed right now and sign says re-opening in February 2014 as membership park. This was a great spot - but we won't be coming back if there is a price for admission. Sorry to see it turn out like this.

This is the worst dog park out there. For months after we paid our annual dues the lock on the gate did not work so any dog could come in. During that time our 8 month old lab got bit twice and still has scars. We had some good days there but now today there was another irresponsible dog owner there making it bad for other dogs. We even had comments from other owners that the same dog has caused problems several times recently. Just another way for someone to make/raise money at the expense of other lives.
