Fun little spot and great way to learn about the local history. Learned a lot we did not know. They have a little scavenger hunt that kind of prompts you into reading the history. Some cool artifacts, too. Kids would really enjoy the hunt, and we did, too. Fun spot to visit, especially on a cold rainy day (like we did).

I had a nice time visiting this museum. These guys are doing some great work. I had a personal tour and learned a lot about treasure hunting and the work that they are doing to preserve and document these underwater artifacts. I also learned a lot about their salvage vessel Polly-L. They use this vessel to find treasures from shipwrecks. The nice gentlemen that hosted me were very knowledgable and passionate about the work they do. I highly recommend making a stop in and checking out this museum.

Amazing experience. Had a great conversation with Doug Pope. Can't believe that these treasures are just off the coast of our great state of Florida. 5/5 recommendation.

Great experience for the whole family. Very informational and detailed accounts of first hand experiences from Doug. The gentleman that built several of the models was there and we got to see his extremely detailed work which was cool way to start off the tour. Then Doug took over and took us through the rest of the way and explained all the details that made this tour through the museum, that much more special. My kids loved the opportunity to touch some of the artifacts and see the treasures up close. It inspired all of us to become treasure hunters and hopefully treasure finders some day! Super interesting to hear about the process and dedication involved into finding these hidden treasures. It was eye-opening to hear about all of Amelia Island's rich history and what a popular designation it was for early explorers and pirates! Definitely worth the $5!

This place is awesome! It is sponsored by Amelia Research & Recovery, LLC, which is one of the most successful treasure hunting businesses in the U.S., and is currently being filmed by some national cable TV networks for documentaries and reality shows. The MMAI has original treasures from the Spanish fleet that sunk on July 30th, 1715 in a hurricane, and it also has other treasures that have been recovered from different treasure expeditions operated independently, or in cooperation with the famed Mel Fisher Treasure Company. You'll see some one-of-a-kind artifacts ranging from a 40-carat emerald to some recovered cannon and smaller weapons. In addition, this museum is unique because it is linked to ongoing research & recovery from one of the top ten unrecovered sunken treasures in the world - located within 10 miles of the museum itself. Don't miss this gem!

Well I stumbled upon this Maritime Museum while I was searching for what I was going to do in Jacksonville. So this caught my eye and I thought what's the deal how come nobody has reviewed this yet? So I decided I'm going to this place and I'm checking it out. I found a video that describes their Museum and Amelia Island and I'm telling you it was compelling really compelling. So with that in mind I came up here and found the place, that was a little bit of a puzzle because the sign is in very big and the building has been repainted so there's no contrast for the sign and according to the fellow I chatted with inside he said you know a lot of people have noticed that. Well under the museum sign this is a museum that contains artifacts that have been brought out of the ocean from around the area here and all up and down the Atlantic coast and it talks about what the big deal is for Amelia Island. Amelia Island has got so many wonderful attributes in terms of deep water ports a lots of freshwater that it was just a great place to stop when you're coming across the Atlantic in the days of the sailing ships. Now it was also far enough away from St Augustine so that there was no army or Garrison around here and that meant that it was a little easier sailing for the Pirates. You tie that together with the weather so that the weather can sink a few ships here in there and Presto you have God a whole lot of interesting history. Tie that together with this place was under eight Flags, eight Flags wow Eat Your Heart Out Six Flags Over Texas. And the man who runs the museum is just the friendliest nicest gentleman you could ever want to talk to he'll be happy to give you a personalized a walking tour or you can kind of walk around and check things out there labeled real nicely and it just covers all kinds of history for the area hi recommended if you're in the area, and I recommend Amelia Island is a great place to come on up and check it out what a beautiful little town

Great little museum. Actually got to talk with some of the guys who hunt the treasure. Great historical artifacts. Pirate themes for the kiddos and lots of history for the adults. Been coming here for years but never visited the museum. Definitely worth it.
