Lou's Barber Shop

It's not so much that I've had familiarity with Lou's Barber Shop over my few years in JAX, but my barber, Nam, I have been familiar with since 2019. Long and short: Nam moved over to Lou's during COVID and I relocated to San Diego for three years. Upon my return, I needed to get a fresh start with Nam once again. I really like this barber shop. I just about always used barbers on the military bases through my years of service. But when I have a great barber, I'm always willing to drive a few extra miles to maintain consistency. Also, as I've watched Nam cut other men's hair while waiting, she treats all of us with amazing courtesy and respect - and has a great sense of humor! Well, you get the picture, getting a haircut is more about the barber than barber shop itself. However, there are some things you need to know before visiting Lou's. Yes - they do take appointments, just give them a call. It's a nice facility that's well taken care of. Chairs are comfortable and spacing is good between them. Important!!! They are CASH ONLY here, Prices range from $18 for a men's haircut. Seniors (55 and over) haircuts are $15. There is no military discount. They do have a stylist who cuts females' hair. Contact the shop for pricing. If I had only one recommendation I think the shop needs to fix its bathroom a bit. It appears unclean and needs a towel dispenser. I'm not always overly concerned about the appearance of a place when proper cleaning and having needed items to ensure a safe environment are in place. If they aren't, that's always a concern. I hope the ownership of Lou's will consider this and make some fixes to the bathroom. I will say I've greatly enjoyed my visits as it's always easy to strike up a conversation with the gentleman waiting for a haircut next to you, or just having a fun time with the barber as my photos show! All to say, there is a good vibe at Lou's. Go there if you're looking for good company and great haircut! Tell them the Yelp Rev Ron R sent you!Recommend: VERY HIGH

Don't come here if you are under the age of 50 or want a modern hairstyle. Anything different from a traditional side part which is all they are capable of.I usually have a textured fringe and coming in; I explained I wanted no length off the front and Ken decided to cut a half inch off anyways. Dirty barbershop who doesn't listen to their clients.

Ken is a very nice guy and does great work. He has a steady hand and gives honest old school haircuts and beard trims. The shop is tidy and comfortable but the waiting area is simple. At a barber shop you are going for a reason, not to hang out or have a beer, so that's totally fine with me. Walk-ins are welcome and that was a big selling point for me as I don't really plan ahead when it comes to my hair etc. If I go to Walmart and I feel like getting a haircut, I want to be able to do so. ‍ I don't want to deal with appointments.

I visited Lou's for the first time and had Ken cut my hair. He remembered me from Cold Steel when he worked there. He's an excellent barber. I went early on a Saturday morning when they first opened, so I was able to walk in and jump in the chair with no wait. Ken did a great job on giving me the haircut I asked for; short and blocked.

I started going here when I found out that my favorite barber Ken now works here. I move around a lot and every place I move to, I always make it a point to find a barber who can give me not only the haircut I want, but also the haircut that's best for me when I myself have doubts. Suffice it to say, I'm not one to just settle for the closest supercuts. Admittedly, it took me a while to find Ken but it was worth all the mediocre haircuts and barbers I had to endure prior to him. In my opinion, he's the best barber in Jacksonville! If you know Ken, then you know this to be absolutely true. He really listens to you and makes sure that both of you are on the same page before even starting on your hair.Aside from his calm, relaxing demeanor, he's also very light on his hands and gentle with your head. Bonus points as well for being able to talk to you about pretty much anything under the sun (for us it's gaming). I've been having Ken cut my hair for 2 years now and so long as I'm in Jacksonville, I trust no one else with my hair but good old #KenTheBarber. The fact that this establishment is both a barbershop AND a salon also means that my wife and I can come in to have our hair done together. She's been looking for a good hairdresser that won't cost an arm and a leg and it looks like we found our spot. Where else can you turn a haircut into a bonding experience with your spouse? We're doing exactly that on our next visit and I can't wait! Important Note: For now, they only take cash so make sure to bring that paper!

Ken does a fantastic job! He is friendly, personable, reliable and most importantly provides me with a great haircut & beard trim. I will never go anywhere else!

Ken is the best. Everyone there is good if kens not available. The last two times, Ken was not available Nikki cut my hair, very nice easy to look at and wonderful to talk to and most importantly very talented with scissors and trimmers.

I would not recommend this place. They are rude! Never been, pulled right up front, walked up to the door. Realized they were closing in 7 minutes so I was hurrying and the guy literally locked the door in my face!

Great local shop with friendly staff. Best prices around and Nam will take good care of you!

Great family barber. I get my fade done by Nom and she's amazing! Reminds me of my military days where the fades we got on base we're world class!
